The BBC2 presenter, Andrew Cruikshank, was seeking to film, for his series Around the World In 80 Treasures, the Ethiopian Christian Church’s Bible kept totally secret and unseen by western eyes until now. He traveled far into the hinterland, and was finally lifted by a series of rope pulleys to an ancient stone church atop an outcrop. The old abbot came out to meet him, and the presenter tried every kind of approach with absolutely no success. The disappointment was written all over his face.
“But you may film anything you like in the library” the abbot finally said, whereupon the BBC crew reverently hauled out the biggest manuscript they could find, a 4 th century tome called ‘The Book Of Mary’ . (if that date is correct, and who really knows, it was created around the time that Bishop Eusebius and Emperor Constantine were making their Unholy Alliance to create the Roman Christian Church).
They opened The Book Of Mary randomly, and filmed 3 double spreads of beautifully painted Christian scenes, involving Jesus on the Cross and Mary herself.
What nobody noticed was that, ON EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE RANDOMLY CHOSEN PAGES, and in very prominent positions, were magic mushrooms!!

In the above picture u can clearly see a Holy Trinity (dosage?) of mushrooms which absolutely dominate the scene. Other interesting things, like streams of Higher Information, pour from them into the sky. Note also the huge anaconda/snake, which usually indicates linking together; and possible yoga references to the spine; notice the single black african under the mushrooms.

On his right, Christ is being poked with a spear. But, on his left, somebody in the crowd is offering him a VERY LARGE BLUE MUSHROOM! Look between the 2 pictures until you are convinced. Notice that this mushroom has the same brambly-blue look of those above the church.
The saint on the top left holds a gigantic mushroom. Again very prominent and unmistakable.

It's a bad picture, and you’ll have to trust me a bit on this. I’ve
seen a better image where it is very clear that she, Mary, is holding a
large mushroom in her left hand.
The mushroom head is visible above the hand.
Now, it took us a while to see it but when we did it was perfectly evident - the stump of the mushroom’s brown stalk sticks out below her hand. An irregular brown blob shape. Then you notice that her churchly vestment is covered in similar brown blobs!! I take this to mean that Mary has eaten the heads off all those mushroom stalks!!! And her head looks to me like it's exploding :)
Alternatively you could see a lot of little brown psilocybins growing on her dress.
Meanwhile what’s going on in her right hand?
So let’s summarise. This is The Book of Mary!! One of the Holiest books of the Ethiopian Orthodox Christian Church! Since there are mushrooms in very prominent positions in all 5 of the 5 pictures they opened, we MUST conclude that mushroom worship had a central position in ‘Christianity’, in the 4th century, in Ethiopia. And presumably for long before. The Ethiopian Church is normally linked to the Coptic Church in Egypt whence emerged, many scholars believe, the original ‘Christiantiy’.

As today’s brand of Christianity developed its Unholy Alliance with the Roman Empire from the middle of the 4 th century, it began to play to the Emperor’s tune. Bishop Eusebius ended up preaching that “Just as God rules in Heaven, so the Emperor rules on earth”, something Jesus would never have said. (see UP! 232)
However, as it changed its essential nature and began building the notoriouos Military-Church’s Big Lie (see UP! 232), all the other branches of Christianity, refusing to be so corrupted, chose to remain “ ORTHODOX ”. The Greek Orthodox . The Russian Orthodox . The Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
Since there has never been the slightest suggestion that the Ethiopian Orthodox Church branched off into its own wild & unique unorthodoxy (there’s evidence indeed that “Christianity” itself emerged from Ethiopia) the conclusion is inescapable that our Roman Christian Church was founded in worship of the Sacred Magic Mushroom !
Which leaves one question. What is depicted in the Ethiopian Bible which is SO secret that the BBC was NOT allowed to film it?! Since, presumably, the secrecy is due to pressure from the West, the Vatican, American ‘Christianity’, the CIA even, what could it be?

According to a study of scriptural texts published
this month, Jesus was almost certainly a cannabis user and proponent of
its medicinal properties. It suggests that Jesus and his disciples
used the drug to carry out miraculous healings.The Anointing Oil used by Jesus and his disciples contained an ingredient called kaneh-bosem which has since been identified as cannabis extract, according to an article by Chris Bennett in the magazine, High Times. The incense used by Jesus in ceremonies also contained a cannabis extract, suggests Mr Bennett, who quotes scholars to back his claims.
"There can be little doubt about a role for cannabis in Judaic religion," Carl Ruck, professor of classical mythology at Boston University, said.
Referring to the existence of cannabis in anointing oils used in ceremonies, he added: "Obviously the easy availability and long-established tradition of cannabis in early Judaism would inevitably have included it in the [Christian] mixtures."
Mr Bennett suggests those anointed with the oils used by Jesus were "literally drenched in this potent mixture… Although most modern people choose to smoke or eat pot, when its active ingredients are transferred into an oil-based carrier, it can also be absorbed through the skin".
Quoting the New Testament, Mr Bennett argues that Jesus anointed his disciples with the oil and encouraged them to do the same with other followers. This could have been responsible for the healing eye and skin diseases referred to in the Gospels.
"If cannabis was one of the main ingredients of the ancient anointing oil, and receiving this oil is what made Jesus the Christ and his followers Christians, then persecuting those who use cannabis could be considered anti-Christ." Chris Bennett.

Dear Fraser,
I thought it only right, honour where honour is due, to say that I basically accept your political stance on the generalised corruption of our western political system, and it's media. It is very depressing to have to admit it to you :) but even more, much more, that it is actually as it is.
We have been fed lies upon lies upon lies, like children fed junk food, so that when we are finally given " true" food, we find it horrible. T.S Elliot, i think, once said 'Mankind cannot bear too much reality' We prefer the comforting lie - everything is more or less all right - to the bleak truth about the situation.
However, and it is small comfort, i think your beliefs about the “shamanic allies” as you call them are wrong. I know that there are other ways to transform oneself and one's consciousness. Art is a way of approaching objectivity, will-lessness (you might say " non-ego ") Why? Because it's nothing really to do with entertainment, but with confronting what is serious, grave and eternal in the human condition.

i think you're probably right about the organic enlightenment that must have occurred to our ancestors, whose personal-alchemy traditions we kept alive for centuries. its really a shame that these plants of reason have been so brutally demonised.
the only thingwe differ on is your slant on christianity.
1st, even the Jewish acknowledge the birth & life of Jesus, if not as the messiah, then at least as a great example of a darn good human being.

(as continues today).
you yourself said that overnight enlightenment comes in 2 forms: thru psychedelics or religious conversion. i think the best way for us to progress as a globe is to have the best of both these worlds harmonise. yes, organised religion has a huge holier-than-though pole up its butt, but the good that each institution does is huge. think about the orphanages, food plants & donations, shelters, etc... they are presently doing more to bring about justice in the form of aid, than are any handful of nations.

Having just read MMT (DMT?) I find it fascinating ....... but at the British Museum they have a lot of stone axes - and they date them to 2 million years old. Most come from the Olduvai Gorge area in Tanzania. Archaeologists have also found skeletal remains of primitive humans dating back millions of years e.g. The Nariokotome Boy found in Kenya.
In Australia the Aboriginal people also had the very same scientifically ground down tools ..... yet the powers-that-be state categorically that the Aboriginal peoples (there were well over 300 tribes when Cook arrived and planted the British flag in 1770) spoke their own languages and had some differing cultures and customs). NOBODY IN AUSTRALIA ADMITS THAT ABORIGINAL PEOPLE HAVE BEEN INHABITANTS OF THE AUSTRALIAN CONTINENT FOR MORE THAN 60,000 YEARS. BUT THE STONE AXES THERE ATTEST TO A FAR LONGER HISTORY, equally as old as the Olduvai Gorge axes. By the way the Tanzanian stone axe artefacts are the oldest in the British Museum.
Recently some brave Australian scientists dated aboriginal remains to 135,000 years or more, but other scientists and academics slated these scholars.
My question is if humans were as primitive as we are being led to believe then how did they figure out this technology? My opinion is that our ancestors came from a different past than we have been taught ..... and monkey is blamed for much clueless behaviour, but the point is he is a very clever creature and was never meant to mutate into a human or a humanoid. It is not a sin, of course (whatever a 'sin' is!) to make typos or to commit other errors of syntax (whoa! What's the etymology of that word: syn-tax!?) But there is the potential cost of totally losing the reader when sharing a work that demands the reader to stretch/expand/open their habituated paradigms of identity and belief. Every little bit of clarity and accuracy is immeasurably beneficial, offering that much greater likelihood of attaining the goal: unified/ shared higher-deeper-realer understanding/grokking.

In the 1930s a very similar 13 Moon Calendar was agreed upon by the League Of Nations as the new civil calendar for the planet. It replaced the uneven, illogical and obscure language of the Gregorian Calendar with an equal and harmonious measure that was easier to learn and understand by all peoples. Guess who vetoed it? The Vatican !
Our calendar affects pretty much everything we do - from daily appointments to major life & career decisions. University’s Marsh Chapel. Its full findings have been ignored and
suppressed, and its line of enquiry subsequently illegalised.

A bona fide scientific research into WoMankind’s inner spiritual life, it produced some very real findings. Anyone uneasily aware of the increasing tawdriness of modern man’s inner psychological life (surely the underlying theme of a Second Millennium obsessed with surfaces, from car chases to empty celebrities to wars) should hang their head in shame, or shake it in frustration.
As Dr Walter Clark, a recipient of the American Psychological Association’s William James Memorial Award for contributions to the psychology of religion, put it:
“There are no experiments known to me in the history of the scientific study of religion better designed or clearer in their conclusions.”
The Good Friday
Experiment
Early one Good Friday morning, then, before the Marsh Chapel service
began, minister and physician Dr Walter Pahnke randomly
administered small capsules to 20 young male Protestant divinity students
under the watchful eye of Harvard University’s Dr Timothy Leary,
the principal academic adviser. Half contained a placebo, the other
half 30mg of pure psilocybin (essence of magic mushroom). A hefty
amount, more than enough, as we shall see, to transform the ‘normal’
service into, well, what it’s supposed to be! (and
originally was!)True to Leary’s ‘Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out!’ ethos in these matters, the psychologists, too, participated randomly. This is also the shaman’s way.
The aim of the experiment was to investigate whether such a religious “set and setting” (a community of believers participating in a familiar religious ceremony specifically designed to elicit spiritual feelings) would induce a genuine mystical experience. In 8 out of the 10 actual participants, they did!
Immediately following the experiment, a 150 item questionnaire was administered to all participants, and six months later a hundred item questionnaire had them rate the degree to which they’d experienced the following:
* a sense of Unity
* a pure awareness beyond any empirical content
* a fusion of the self into a larger undifferentiated whole
* a freedom from limitations of the self
* a loss of the feeling of self
* a loss of the sense of personal identity

But before describing the results, there’s even more evidence!
Rick Doblin, Ph.D, is founder and president of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), a research and educational organisation in the USA which sponsors scientific research to develop psychedelics (including marijuana) into FDA-approved prescription medicines, and to educate the public honestly about the risks and benefits of these drugs. Perhaps because part of his professional goal is to develop legal contexts for the beneficial uses of psychedelics for "healthy" people, he had the brilliant idea, in the early 1990s, of re-administering the same questionnaire to the same subjects, now in their 50s. Most were now working as ministers, but other professions represented included stockbroker, lawyer, community developer, social worker, administrative assistant and educator.
Doblin also explored, in a series of tape-recorded sessions, any changes in their attitudes, getting them to rate whether they’d experienced an increase or decrease in their feelings of happiness, joy, inner peace, tolerance, creativity and vocational commitment.
And he probed, finally, whether there had been any life-long changes, in positive or negative ways, in their relationships with others, in how much time they spent in quiet meditation, and similar things.

Findings
The results of the Good Friday Experiment proved,
scientifically (meaning it could be repeated if there wasn’t a law
against it!) that, in such conditions, psychedelic drugs can
unquestionably help facilitate mystical experiences. “The
psilocybin recipients experienced to a greater extent than controls the
phenomena described by our topology of mysticism.” In fact, in every general category, and in every specific question, the average scope of the ‘shroomers’ exceeded that of the control subjects.
In case you’re thinking this was just a bunch of nuts, Time magazine reported at the time that “all students who had taken the drug experienced a mystical consciousness that resembled those described by the saints and ascetics.” Truth is, it was 8 out of 10.
And the 6 month follow-up confirmed substantial positive and virtually no negative persisting changes in attitude and behaviour. As one divinity student put it: “While the service went on I was caught up in this experience of Eternal Life. Just in that one session I gained what I could probably never have gotten from a thousand hours of reading. It was a positive mystical experience, confirmed both before and after.”
Thirty Year
Benefits
Rick Doblin re-administered the follow-up questionnaire to 16 of the
original 20 subjects (nothing else was administered, silly, not even
scientists can legally do that any more!). He also held formal
background discussions with 7 of the original 10 research assistants who,
at the time of the original experiment, had been professors or students
of religion, psychology and philosophy in the Boston area.This confirmed the findings of the original experiment. 30 years after their psychedelic experience, almost all shroomers interviewed (but none of the controls) still considered their original trip to have contained genuinely mystical elements which had made a uniquely valuable contribution to their spiritual lives. The positive changes at the 6 month stage (some involving basic vocational and value choices) had persisted over time, and in some cases had deepened.
“To take one of these drugs says a lot more can happen than what’s been happening in your total experience. And that’s why I would want my kids to take it.”
When you consider that Doblin’s follow-up took place as the War on Vegetables eh Drugs was being whipped to a climax by ignorant, puritan-power-crazed politicians and media sluts into Public Enemy Number One, complete with all attendant social pressures to deny any value in drug-induced experiences, the overwhelmingly positive nature of the reports are even more remarkable.
The High Point Of
Their Spiritual Lives
While the control subjects could barely recall details of that day’s
religious service, 9 out of 10 ‘shroomers’ retained vivid
memories, and unanimously characterised it as one of the high points of
their spiritual lives. All 9 described their trip as having
genuinely mystical elements, some reporting specifically Christian
content, and others a more Universal nature. According to one shroomer whose version of the religious life had clearly been fundamentally altered: “All of a sudden I just wanted to laugh. Then I began to go into a very paranoid state. I absolutely hated the dark chapel, and I got up and walked out. They sent Timothy Leary after me. I remember seeing an old couple walking arm in arm, they were old and they had lived experience, and that was such a profound experience for me. A young woman with a baby in a pram was also an extremely powerful experience. I remember just burying my face in a bush and taking a bite out of the leaves. Then Leary and I went back inside, and again I hated the bars, and felt like I was in prison.”
Hmm. For most (not all!) this had been their only psychedelic experience, partly because no more legal opportunities had ever presented themselves.

Most had had subsequent mystical experiences, in dreams, prayer, in
nature or with other psychedelics, with which they could now make
comparisons. Significant differences were reported, with the drug
experience being more intense, and of a wider emotional range.
Non-drug experiences were composed of peaceful, beautiful moments
experienced with ease. Drug experiences tended to include moments
of great fear, agony and self-doubt. “Heaven and Hell” in Aldous
Huxley’s words.“What I had experienced was of a God inside me. And I think that was what made me say ‘I don’t think this is religious, this is psychological’. But that was because of the way God was being defined by other people.”
Each thought the trip had affected their lives positively, in one or more or all of the following ways:
- an enhanced appreciation of life
- a deepened sense of joy
- a deepened commitment to whatever vocation the subject chose
- an enhanced appreciation of unusual experiences and emotions
- an increased tolerance of other religious systems
- a deepened equanimity in the face of difficult life crises
- a greater solidarity and identification with foreign peoples, minorities, women and nature.

Psychedelics Make For

Probably the most unexpected finding (to a population deliberately kept in ignorance) the clearest effect of this experience of Eternity was that it had reduced their fear of death, thus empowering them to take more risks, and to participate more deeply in the social life and political struggles around them: Not the “drop outs” of the established cliché!

The Controls
By the 1990s, most controls and administrators, as I’ve already said,
remembered little of the service. Two, in fact, felt the most
important benefit for them had been their decision, as they’d
watched the “lucky ones”, to try this stuff at the earliest
opportunity! Which they did! And several said they’d seriously consider participating in another experience if the circumstances were right and the substances legal. Which attitude, as I’ve said elsewhere in this book, amazes me. If you know society’s got something wrong, why would you limit your life chances by conforming to it?!

The Scientists’
Conclusions, and Mine
Rick Doblin’s conclusions are exasperatingly scientifically understated,
yet clear enough to the non-scientist: “Though questions as
fundamental and as deserving to be addressed by the scientific community
as those raised by the Good Friday Experiment pose unique and daunting
challenges to the regulatory agencies, it is nevertheless difficult to
argue with the conclusion that additional studies are
justified. These should be approached cautiously and
carefully, with a multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists
and religious professionals from a variety of traditions.”My own conclusion, from this scientific research and my own, is one hell of a lot stronger. If this experiment proves, as it surely does, that ‘God’ can be experienced inside through the use of a psychedelic, then how dare a government of stodgy, small-minded bank managers, unimaginative accountants and emotional dodos deny anyone in a democracy this ‘goddess-given’ right?!
I do agree with Rick’s final conclusion, however: “Renewed research will take both patience, courage and wisdom from all concerned.” Unfortunately it’s the above pea-brains who call the shots. I reckon what causes such people to be so condemnatory is their subconscious intuition that the psychedelics really can open higher spiritual centres. They’re ashamed, in fact, that their own miserably hypocritical lives will be shown up for what they are. But the truth is that they themselves would probably be much happier and fulfilled. They’d “get a life”!

significant negative long-term effects, however, is actually not
surprising. Hundreds of thousands of people alive today could
tell you the same thing!Indeed, in 1964, when Dr Rick Strassman conducted a review of all scientifically controlled human experiments with psychedelics, he found that panic and adverse reactions were extremely rare. His conclusion that the potential risks of future research were outweighed by the potential benefits is, again, a typically understated scientist’s way of expressing an enormously powerful and profound conclusion.

Here’s a simple, yet powerful process to release
trauma and
memories of
panic that
exist in our body cells - we have all had traumatic experiences - being
lost as a young child, being abused, or being in a serious
accident. This process utilises the breath to release the cellular memory of trauma, fear and panic. It can be done anytime during the day, while driving, sitting at work or before a meditation.
Become focused on your breath and your physical body. Allow yourself to breathe in slowly until your lungs are full, then hold the breath to the count of 7.
Slowly release your breath, breathing all the way out. Hold your breath out and, as you do, tune into your body. Hold your breath out until you feel your body start to panic.
Then SLOWLY allow yourself to breathe all the way in again, holding to the count of 7.
Release the breath slowly, emptying your lungs and holding until you feel the panic again.
Repeat 7 times.
Doing this process consistently will reduce stress in your life. It will also make any traumatic or worrisome live events less so. When we have a fear, worry or traumatic event in our lives, it stimulates the body memory of similar events. Doing this process releases this memory so that it does not compound itself by making things seem worse than they are.
This helps conserve energy needed for growth.

... The Greeks created a holy institution, the Eleusinian Mysteries, which seem regularly to have opened a space in the human psyche for God to enter.
The content of those Mysteries is one of the best kept secrets in history, and this book is the most successful attempt I know to unlock it. Triangulating the resources of Ruck an eminent Classics scholar, Wasson the most creative mycologist of our time, and Hoffman the discoverer of LSD, it is a historical tour de force while being more than that. For by direct implication it raises contemporary questions which our cultural establishment has thus far deemed too hot to face.
1. The question Nietzsche raised: Can humanity survive godlessness - the absence of an ennobling vision, a convincing, elevating view of the nature of things and life's place within it?
2. Have modern secularism, scientism, materialism, and consumerism conspired to form a carapace that Transcendence now has difficulty piercing? If so, another question follows hard on its heels. Is there an urgent need, to devise something like the Eleusinian Mysteries to get us out of Plato's cave and into the light?

20 years have passed since the first publication of
The Road to Eleusis.
The book excited no interest amongst
colleagues in my profession, and rarely has anyone ever mentioned it to
me, until just recently, with a younger generation of scholars. The
people of my age want to forget the whole phenomenon of the
Sixties, for
fear that their children will be as foolish as they. But I find myself repeatedly coming back to the work I did with Gordon and Albert. I am more convinced than ever that we are right. Wasson was looking for a mycological role in Greek religion as a parallel and confirmation of his theory of Soma. The most obvious was in the religion of Dionysos, with the fungal nature of the wine that is that god's sacrament.
... Before drinking the kykeon, which was the mixed drink of the ceremony, the initiates had witnessed the opening of the Baskets and the wallets [containing poppy, rose hips, and mushrooms], in commemoration of the older ways; then the sisterhood of priestesses, dancing throughout the columned Hall, had revealed the holy plant of barley, exposed in the central bowl of kernos monstrance as the apotheosis of evolving civilised life.
Gordon had wanted a mushroom, and Albert and I had provided it. I remember his enthusiasm when we saw the photograph! Albert sent us of the fruiting bodies, clearly recognisable without magnification. Not just a fungus, but a mushroom .
The Message Of
The Eleusinian Mysteries For Today's World
In Greek the word
entheos means
literally god within (theos
inside). It described the condition
that follows when one is inspired and possessed by
the god that has entered one's
body. It was applied to prophetic
seizures, erotic passion and artistic creation, as well as to those
religious rites in which mystical states were experienced through the
ingestion of substances that were transubstantial with the deity.
What was the message conveyed at Eleusis, a message which transformed the cult into the most influential and spiritually significant Mystery of antiquity? The veil of mystery was maintained by a severe commandment of secrecy, and was never lifted through the millennia.
Only by examining the testimony of great initiates can we gain an idea of the fundamentals and the spiritual significance which the teachings of Eleusis had for the individual. No new religion was being promulgated because, when the initiates returned to their homelands, their faith in their own autochthonous religions had been deepened.
Instead, revelations about the essence of human existence and about the meaning of life and death must have been imparted to the initiates.
The problem of our own time involves the question much discussed today of whether it is ethically and religiously defensible to use consciousness-altering drugs under specific circumstances to gain new insights into the spiritual world.
If the hypothesis that an LSD-like consciousness-altering drug was present in the kykeon is correct then the Eleusinian Mysteries have a relevance for our time. The great importance and long duration of the Mysteries indicate that they answered a profound spiritual necessity, a yearning of the soul.
Today the fundamental importance which a mystical experience of totality can have for healing a humanity afflicted by a one-sided, rational, materialistic world view is emphasised not only by adherents to Eastern religious currents, but also by leading representatives of psychology and psychiatry. Even more significant is that not just in medicine, but in ever-wider circles of our society, even ecclesiastical circles, overcoming the dualistic world view is considered to be a prerequisite and fundamental step in the healing and spiritual renewal of Western civilisation and culture.
The official Christian churches offer no room for such a renewal - their dogmas correspond to an expressly dualistic conception of the world. Rather, it is private groups and associations who are attempting to satisfy the need and the longing for an all-encompassing experience of the world appropriate to our present level of knowledge and consciousness.
LSD in particular played as important role in the sixties movement, which addressed war and materialism, and whose adherents sought to expand consciousness. As a matter of fact, under specific internal and external conditions, this class of drugs, whether called hallucinogens, psychedelics, or entheogens, is capable of producing a totality experience, the unio mystica.
And why is such use scarcely conceivable in the Christian liturgy, as though it were not significant? The answer is that the Christian liturgy worships a godly power enthroned in heaven, that is a power outside of the individual. At Eleusis, on the contrary, an alteration in the innermost being of the individual was striven for, which converted the subjects into Mystai, Epotetai, Initiates.
Eleusis can be a model for today. Eleusis-like centres could unite and strengthen the many spiritual currents of our time, all of which have the same goal of creating, by transforming consciousness in individual people, the conditions for a better world, a world without war and without environmental damage, a world of happy people.
