HAS THE NEWS of MRSA

AND OTHER HOSPITAL SUPER-BUGS

BEEN DELIBERATELY REDUCED

TO .WASH YOUR HANDS. BANALITY

BY AN OFFICIAL LYING CAMPAIGN

TO PREVENT

PUBLIC PANIC?

Ever since this present scare broke a few weeks ago, my mind has been harking back to an article I published back in 1987 in the Encyclopaedia Psychedelica, warning of just this development..

Trouble is I couldn.t find a copy!  But I remembered reporting that the actual production of the super bug MRSA was a direct corollary of antibiotic use and deep surgery.

Meanwhile, as I prodded lazy old friends to dig out an old copy of EPi3, I watched in disbelief as all public voices seemed to .get in line. behind some kinda official lie, that it was all something to do with cleaning your hands and our hospitals better.  That wasn.t at all how I remembered it!

Well, I finally found it.  Here it is, word for word.  YOU decide!

Encyclopaedia Psychedelica International, September 1987

.Super Steph., The Hospital Plague

UNLIKE AIDS, WE KNOW WHERE THIS ONE COMES FROM

IT WAS CREATED IN HOSPITALS THROUGH OVERUSE OF ANTIBIOTICS

IT.S A DEADLY SUPERBUG

AND IT.S DRUG RESISTANT!

A drug-resistant germ known as .Super Steph. is spreading through British hospitals, and it.s being blamed for the deaths of patients.  A recent study suggests it contributed 30 UK deaths in 5 months last year.

.It has caused deaths in people who were basically well before they came into hospital. said Dr Jean Bradley, chairperson of a working party studying the problem in the North East Thames region.

The Methicylin-Resistant Stephylococus Aureus bacterium, MRSA, (remember the name cos it.s probably the first of many) was first identified in an Essex hospital in 1981.  It.s a common infection made super-resistant by over use of antibiotics (Anti-Life) and/or deep surgery, and has now spread to 32 London hospitals and to Nottinghamshire, East Anglia and Yorkshire.

In Australian hospitals a similar MRSA superbug has killed hundreds of patients.

>> note .similar., suggesting several types, maybe even unknown numbers of types.

Patients particularly at risk include those with deep wounds, people undergoing transplant surgery, heart operations and kidney dialysis.  Also, of course, the elderly.

>> note deep (unnatural, hence unbalanced?).  could accidental genetic modifications be going on at this deep level?

The germ can spread much more easily than AIDS as it can live harmlessly on the skin or up the nose.  .Staff with the bacteria have been given anti-bacterial shampoos and nasal sprays. reported Dr Ken Grant.

Infected hospitals have had to close wards and intensive-care units and isolate infected patients.

.Bugs Proved Smarter Than The Scientists.

Dr Richard Smith of the British Medical Journal had this to say: .The potential is frightening.  The bacteria are susceptible to one anti-biotic only, vanocomycin, and could eventually become resistant to that too..

>> presumably, with so many dying (and we KNOW that hospitals are NOT giving the true cause of death) that point has now been passed, and they.re struggling to prevent public panic and rejection of medical meddling.

An early warning came in the 1950s when penicillin-resistant types of infection were identified.

Of course pro-biotic Zippies, wholistic healthers and alternative scientists have been warning for decades that over-use of antibiotics would inevitably produce super-bugs by

a) killing off rival bacteria and so upsetting the ecological balance of the body

b) weakening the body.s immune defence system by slaughtering all intestinal flora, white cells etc

.Doctors fear that if the bacterium also becomes resistant to vanocomycyn, medicine could be put back 50 years to the days when minor infections could kill..  The Observer, Aug 1987.

Many Would Welcome Such A Steph eh Step!

They believe that the karma of western science has now built up such a complex backlog of ignorant and accidental interconnections that a panicky medical establishment is being forced to handle developments on an increasingly ad hoc basis.  Witness the widespread, un-tested use of the new Aids chemicals.

Hi-tec, expensive, so-called .Miracle Cures. are likely to be more ANTI-LIFE than the original culprits, thus producing an even MORE resistant ULTRA-/SOOPER Bug in the future.

Dr Harvey, director of microbiology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital said recently: .We may look back at the Antibiotic Era as just a passing phase in the history of medicine, an era in which a great natural resource was squandered and where the bugs proved smarter than the scientists..

The EP1 ADVISES:  MRSA could be as dangerous as AIDS and is sp[reading faster.  Avoid antibiotics and any kind of surgery except in serious cases.  Build up your natural resistance by eating natural nutritious food, exercising the body. and endeavouring to maintain a psychedelic attitude to Life.

At risk groups include anyone working in Western medicine.  Avoid shaking hands (let alone more) with a hospital doctor!

Hugo Chavez: Hero's Welcome @ World Social Forum

by Alan Clendenning

PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil (AP) - Sporting a red shirt embossed with a picture of Che Guevara, Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez received a hero's welcome at the World Social Forum, where activists greeted him with hugs and cries of "Here comes the boss!"

Tens of thousands of people attending the 6-day gathering held to protest the simultaneous World Economic Forum in Switzerland consider Chavez their strongest voice against the U.S.-sponsored spread of liberalised trade in Latin America, a move they say benefits multinational companies while enslaving workers.

"Now the imperialist forces are starting to strike against the people of Latin America and the world," Chavez said.  "And it's up to our soldiers to stay alert and be prepared to defend the people and not to submit themselves to the interests of the empire."

Chavez, a self-described revolutionary, is mounting an aggressive land reform campaign and funnelling profits from Venezuela's oil riches to the poor as part of a political movement loosely based on the ideas of South American independence hero Simon Bolivar.

While Chavez was cheered at the social forum, some jeered Brazilian President Luiz Ignacio Lula da Silva when he spoke, accusing him of failing to come through on promises of social reforms to eradicate Brazilian misery.

Chavez was greeted like a rock star by 15,000 activists in a sports stadium, and came to Silva's defence after speaking for an hour and a half against American imperialism.  "I love Lula!" he yelled. "I respect him.  Lula is a good guy with a big heart.  He's a brother and a comrade."

Brazilian activist Gledson Oliveira, who lives in the country's impoverished northeast, called Chavez "an icon of the struggling classes right now from a socialist perspective.  He's taking on agrarian reform and improving education, showing he's a true revolutionary.  The Brazilian public was expecting from Lula something like Chavez is providing in Venezuela."

Before his speech, Chavez travelled 81 miles in a heavily guarded convoy to the town of Teves, visiting a cooperative at the end of a bumpy dirt road, where poor farmers with no land invaded a spread of unused property seven years ago.  The 33 families squatted on the land went to the courts to win possession and now grow rice, corn and fruit.  Chavez donned a keffiyah, the checkered Arab headdress given to him by an admirer, and asked farmers what they used to fertilise their crops.  Then he dumped a bag of live fish into a rice paddy to control pests and weeds.

To cheers from thousands of members of the Landless Rural Workers' Movement, many of them bussed in from hundreds of miles away, Chavez said his government will attempt to expropriate 7.4 million acres this year and give it to peasants.  An additional 42 million acres in Venezuela may be seized to combat what he described as modern-day feudal land ownership of huge estates by the rich and businesses.

"This can't be tolerated," Chavez said.  "We're going to keep on giving power to the people."

Activists at the social forum say Chavez is eclipsing Silva in agrarian reform with a push the Venezuelan leader has called "war against owners of large land estates."  It uses a 2001 law allowing the taxation and expropriation of idle farmlands.  Cattle ranchers and owners of large land estates argue the law is unconstitutional because it violates private property rights that are constitutionally guaranteed.

Jacek Padee, a Pole who.s been studying the landless movement, said Chavez is in a better position than Silva to promote land redistribution because Venezuela has vast oil reserves to prop up its economy.  Silva has had to struggle to turn Brazil's economy around after a near-recession in 2003.

American Mike Fox, of San Francisco's Global Exchange human rights group, said Chavez has become the model leftist leader in Latin America.

Since surviving a referendum bid last year aimed at ousting him, Chavez has promised a new role for Venezuela's state-owned oil company in the "redistribution of national income."   High oil prices have allowed the Venezuelan leader to fund massive social programs for the poor.

"In Latin America, he's the one a lot of people in other countries are looking to with a lot of hope," Fox said.

An oil-for-aid deal that really works

As the UN struggled with the fallout from its tainted Iraqi venture this week, Eliecer Hernandez and 15,000 other Cuban doctors were busy improving the health of Venezuela's poor, while Chavez in return was sending precious fuel to their beleaguered island home.

ADVANCES ON ALL FRONTS IN THE OTHER WAR// FEEDBACK

Get this little synchronicity&

you know I'm a teacher (and constantly diatribing against the horrible drug miseducation).

I happened to have a little exchange quite awhile back with a guy I discovered through the MAPS list and that he was doing work with dance-safe folks in the capital.  Turned out he was in teacher training -- well, he's lucked into *writing policy* for the ministry of education regarding drug education!!!  They wanted to get away from the traditional (not-working) methods (just say "duh").

(So I just forwarded him your news.)  etc.

Anyway... also our school board hired a brilliant, pretty, charming, well-spoken person I have shared well-nevermind with - a smart user, as the Drug and Alcohol Counsellor, and though a couple of trustees are giving her quite a rough ride, she's winning over many with her common sense approach.

"The kids live in a using culture (30% using illegal) so if you take the hard-line approach, they know it's wrong.  They know many people who manage fine....  For credibility, you must reflect life and reality better in your drug education" is pretty much her approach.

Caesar Assassinated By Mega Rich Elite?

i think it was ezra pound who described literature as .the news that stays news!.

so, just in case anyone wondered why we still read William Shakespeare:

.Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervour, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword.  It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind . . .

.And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry.  Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded with patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader, and gladly so.  How do I know?  For this is what I have done.  And I am Caesar..  Will Shakespeare.

On the other hand, was Shakespeare working, knowingly or unknowingly, for the ruling elite?  Indeed, was he one himself?  .History. is written by .gentleman historians. from the perspective of the current victors.  So too with Rome.  For a different perspective read The Assassination of Julius Caesar: A People.s History of Ancient Rome by Michael Parenti.

It seems his assassination was an act of class warfare led by Brutus, a wealthy landowner, against Caesar.s .crime. - land reform in favour of the people as opposed to the aristocracy who controlled everything.  You can read a review at: http://www.directactionjournal.org/rome.html

As Goes Rome...

A Review of "The Assassination of Julius Caesar: A People's History of Ancient Rome" by Michael Parenti.

History is long dead, so who really cares what happened in ancient Rome, right?

Yet surely there.s some reason it remains a staple of our educational curriculum.  Perhaps it.s because the more one learns about Rome, the more one understands our own society and government.  The lens of history permits us to take a less biased view of events.  We gain an understanding of patterns and processes that, we suddenly realise, are applicable to our present situation.

This value of history, of course, depends on the impartiality of the history itself.   Otherwise, history can be a powerful tool in warping our perceptions - both of the past and the present.

Michael Parenti addresses these issues with a fine mix of political science and history in "The Assassination of Julius Caesar".  The subtitle is perhaps more descriptive of the book itself - "A People's History of Ancient Rome".  Parenti does a brilliant job of providing the background to the assassination itself.  He paints Rome as a world much different than that normally portrayed in history textbooks.  He takes us beyond a mere alternative interpretation of the events, however, into a historiological diatribe against the aristocratic historians who have, until now, portrayed Rome in a very warm light.

From the primary sources - Cicero, Cato and Virgil - to the more recent giants of history such as Gibbon, Robinson and Tillemont, the accepted history of Rome has been passed down to us through an unbroken chain of wealthy aristocrats.  Parenti illuminates their clear bias in interpreting issues of enlightened aristocracy, land reform and the plight of the commoners.  He provides compelling evidence that this accepted, "gentleman's" history is strongly biased.  He illustrates that this bias goes well beyond a few unkind words about "the ignorant masses" to outright reversal of the facts.  Ultimately returning to the title, he demonstrates this egregious misrepresentation of history in the interpretations of the assassination of Julius Caesar himself.

Ask any student of history about ancient Rome and you.ll hear about the strong democratic institution of the Senate, and about how Julius Caesar made himself the first emperor of Rome by destroying the power of this institution, leading to the downfall of the Republic and the rise of Empire.  Brutus and his fellow patriots killed Caesar in an act of tyrannised, a last-ditch attempt to rescue the republic for the people of Rome.  Remember?

Never mind, for the moment, that Caesar wasn't the first emperor (it was either Sulla or Octavian, depending on definitions of Emperor).  Never mind that the senate was never a democratic institution (but the tribal assembly of Rome was).

As Parenti points out, Gaius Julius Caesar was actually the last in a long line of populares, men who fought to against the exploitation of the populace by the aristocratic oligarchs in the senate.  Like Gaius and Tiberius Gracchus before him, Caesar attempted to pass a series of lex agraria, land reform laws.  There were actually very few private property owners in the Republic, with most land being leased to citizens to use as farm land.  The oligarchs in the senate used their influence to ensure that nearly all leases to the small farmers were terminated, and the land was instead leased to themselves, virtually for free.

The land-reform laws which Caesar, and the other populares, attempted to get through the Senate would have returned this arable public land to the general public.  On 15 March, 44 B.C. the senators did what they.d historically done when their privilege and wealth were threatened: they deleted the reformers.  Marcus Brutus, an aristocratic landowner member of the ringleaders, was acting in the interest of himself and of his class... not in the interest of what most would consider patriotism.

Parenti skilfully combines an alternative history and a lesson in historiography, all while providing excellent parallels for our current political situation.

Once upon a time a rich King had 4 wives.

He loved his 4th wife the most, adorned her with rich robes, and treated her to the finest of delicacies, giving her nothing but the best.

He also loved his 3rd wife very much and was always showing her off to neighbouring kingdoms.  However, he feared that one day she.d leave him for another.

He loved his 2nd wife too, indeed she was his confidant, always kind, considerate and patient.  Whenever he faced a problem, he could confide in her, and she.d help him get through the difficult times.

The King.s 1st wife was a very loyal partner who.d made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom.  However, he didn.t love her.  Although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her.

One day, the King fell ill and knew his time was short.  He thought of his luxurious life and wondered, .I have 4 wives with me, but when I die, I.ll be all alone..

So he asked his 4th wife, .I.ve loved you the most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now I.m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?.

.No way!. she replied, and walked away without another word.  It cut like a knife in his heart.

The sad King then asked his 3rd wife, .I.ve loved you all my life. Now I.m dying, will you follow me and keep me company?.

.No!., she replied. .Life is too good!  When you die, I.m going to remarry!.  His heart sank and turned cold.

To his 2nd wife he said: .I.ve always turned to you for help and you.ve always been there for me. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?.

.I.m sorry, I can.t help you out this time!. she replied. .At the very most, I can walk with you to your grave..  The King was utterly devastated.

.I.ll go with you!. a voice called out. .I.ll follow you wherever you go..

The King looked up, and there was his first wife.  She was very skinny as she suffered from malnutrition and neglect.  Greatly grieved, the King said, .I should have taken much better care of you when I had the chance!.

Ready?  We each have 4 wives in our lives:

4 is our body.  No matter how much time and effort we lavish  on it, it will leave us when we die.

3 is our possessions, status and wealth.  When we die, it will all go to others.

2 is our family and friends.  No matter how much they.ve been there for us, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.

And our 1st wife is our Soul.  Often neglected in pursuit of wealth, and the power and pleasures of the world, nevertheless our Soul is the only wife who.ll follow us wherever we go.

Cultivate, strengthen and cherish it now, for it is the only part of us that will follow us to the throne of Goddess and continue with us throughout Eternity.

THE ULTIMATE WAR CRIME:

BREAKING THE AGRICULTURAL CYCLE

Iraqis Cannot Save Own Seeds U.S. Declares!

As part of sweeping .economic restructuring. implemented by the Bush  Administration in Iraq, Iraqi farmers will no longer be permitted to save their seeds, which include seeds the Iraqis themselves have  developed over hundreds of years.

Instead, they will be forced to buy seeds from US corporations.

That is because in recent years, transnational corporations have  patented and now .own. many seed varieties originated or developed by  indigenous peoples.  In a short time, Iraq will be living under the new American credo: .Pay Monsanto, Or Starve..

The American Administrator of the Iraqi CPA (Coalition Provisional  Authority) government, Paul Bremer, updated Iraq.s intellectual  property law to .meet current internationally-recognised standards of  protection..  The updated law makes saving seeds for next year.s harvest, practised by 97% of Iraqi farmers in 2002, and is the standard  farming practice for thousands of years across human civilizations, to  be now illegal.  Instead, farmers will have to obtain a yearly license for genetically modified (GM) seeds from American corporations.  These GM seeds have typically been modified from seeds developed over  thousands of generations by indigenous farmers like the Iraqis, and  shared freely like agricultural .open source...

As per an Iraqi proverb, the day will come, sooner rather than later, when the Iraqis will shred Bremer.s Laws, soak them in water and offer the glass to Bremer to drink.

.Allies From The Great Apes to Hemp Farms on Mars.//FEEDBACK

Hey Fraser,

Thank you so much for this 'futuristic' study.

There does seem to be more than one (duh) category of consciousness dwelling on this planet.  And they can not ALL be governed by ONE group that do not even know others' exist (and are evolving).  It is well beyond their notion that there are "kooks" among us.   In my opinion, that is the worst word ever to have been uttered by human beings.  It.s an AUTOMATIC shut-down mechanistic device to end discussion and dismiss possibility.  Fear-based for sure, manipulative as well.  Once that word is strategically placed, spin can follow with just the raising of an eyebrow.  It can be seen as a silent tool on the daily, nightly, TV on-going news programs, or programming.  Occasionally there.s a breakthrough piece of news and the "kook factor" is played and that's that!  I'm sure you know what I mean.

>> absolutely.  but i never considered it to be a conscious technique.  i do remember some Far Lefty Conspiracist giving me a list of how .they. control the news.  i knew all of them except one which had never occurred to me but makes absolute sense.  ever wonder why they put on so much alternative shit like 2 hours of heavy metal rock or some meaningless crapola prog?  it.s because whenever a young person asks his dad why they never show the serious alternative viewpoint the dad can honestly reply: .whaddya mean?!! they have that shit on ALL the time!.  geddit?  so the more seriously based your viewpoint the less chance you.ll get on or get more than a sound bite or two.

I took the Allies segments from your newsletter and sent it on for it's own merit.

Much success with your work Fraser.

The Imminent Demise of the Republican Party

by David W. Orr, CommonDreams.org

Following the election of 2004, much has been made of the weaknesses of the Democratic Party, even its possible end.  But it has escaped the notice of our blow-dry television pundits and political observers alike that the Republican Party, in the full blush of triumph in control of all the branches of government and large sections of the media, stands on the edge of certain extinction.

The reasons grow daily more evident.  Over the past 3 decades, the moderate, business-oriented party of Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and Dwight Eisenhower was captured by its extreme right-wing, thereby becoming a party dominated by ideologues, increasingly divorced from unmovable facts.  But no organisation, political party, or nation can long survive by ignoring realities of ecology, social justice, law, economics, and true security.  Sooner or later, it will step off the proverbial curb into the onrushing traffic of events, forces, and trends that it refused to see.

The Republican Party has already stepped into the road.  The question is not whether it will survive as presently constituted, but what else will be destroyed as it collapses in ruin and ignominy, sooner than later.  Beneath the noisy spin of its media echo chamber, the true platform of the Republican Party, its future epitaph, is founded on denial.  The rules of the Republican Party of George Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Tom Delay, and their brethren are these:

*  Deny science when its findings are not agreeable to your base.  Republicans, notably, are on the wrong side of the largest issue in human history: human driven, rapid climate change.  They.ve chosen instead to live in a Crichton-esque science fiction fantasy in which real science has no standing and human actions have no tragic, irreversible, and global ecological consequences.  This is not just boneheaded, it is a form of criminality for which we have, as yet, no adequate words.

*  Deny the looming approach of peak oil extraction thereby advancing the potential of economic, political, and social chaos when global oil supply and demand diverge as soon they will.

*  Deny the proven potential of superior technologies, design strategies, and policies that would move the country toward energy efficiency and a secure energy base of solar and wind power as well as the reasons of self-interest and economic advantage for doing so.

*  Deny the true costs of air and water pollution thereby undermining the health of Americans.

*  Deny the human and economic effects of pandering to the wealthy, thereby undermining social cohesion and the sense of fairness -  historically, often a prelude to societal breakdown and revolution.

*  Deny any and all mistakes, bad judgment, and corruption, relying on spin not truth and thereby building a solid reputation for mendacity and incompetence.

*  Deny the limitations of military power to impose order on a recalcitrant world and thereby condemn the U.S. to a future of international isolation, conflict, and endless terrorism.

*  Deny the great vulnerability of the American infrastructure to malice, malfeasance, and acts of God, thereby laying the groundwork for a future of recurring disasters.

*  Deny the necessity for civil discourse, honesty, and transparency in the conduct of public life, thereby holding the citizenry in contempt and promoting a spirit of meanness.

*  Deny the democratic values of the country, without admitting it, enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, the Gettysburg Address, and the Four Freedoms of Franklin Roosevelt, thereby undermining democracy at home while purportedly fighting for it in Iraq.

The Republican Party has chosen to deny social, ecological, c
