sickened to death by arab atrocities against us and can’t imagine what could cause people to act like that?  try looking around the planet away from the floodlights, where your government doesn’t want you to look, look at haiti, smell the blood of “our” atrocities there, try our budding saddamskis around the caspian sea, try just about anywhere in south america, in fact try this news, just in from Colombia…

Family of Food and Beverages Colombian Union Assassinated
At 7 am on April 20, armed men with machine guns entered the home of the brother of Coca-Cola union leader Efrain Guerrero's wife in Bucaramanga, and fired indiscriminately at the family, killing Efrain's brother-in-law, his wife and wounding three of their children.  This is not the first time the families of this union’s leaders have suffered such violence.

The Coca Cola Killings?
This happened in the context of the labour conflict against Coca Cola, where the union is trying to avoid the firing of workers due to closing production lines, and is also negotiating a new convention with the company.  The previous Sunday, April 18, workers' assemblies had approved the petitions to be presented to the Coca Cola bottlers.  Union leaders had also expressed concern over security problems.  Further, the lawyers who filed the case for acts of anti-union violence against Coca-Cola in the U.S. had just announced they’d filed a new brief to reinstate Coca-Cola as a defendant.

a few years from now there will be some terrible act of terror in bogota and we good citizens of the world’s greatest democracy will read about it and wonder: how could people act like that?!

if, on the other hand, you’re wondering how our ‘leaders’ can act in the immoral way they do (abroad) try this:

Russert played a clip from Kerry's 1971 appearance on Meet the Press which followed his testimony as a leader of Vietnam Veterans Against the War before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.  A longhaired Kerry, in uniform, was seen saying he stood by the essence of his testimony: veterans had admitted they’d "raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power."
Now Russert did not play the tape to congratulate Kerry for his truth-telling.  He was clearly calling him on the carpet.  He even suggested that "a lot" of Kerry's allegations had been discredited.  In fact, every word has been shown to be true in an abundance of testimony.  Even now, new revelations pour out.  For example, the Toledo Blade just won the Pulitzer Prize for unearthing the story of an army company that went on a 7-month rampage in Vietnam, routinely killing peasants, burning villages, cutting off the ears of corpses.  Troops in the field can hardly engage in such conduct over a period of months without the knowledge and at least tacit approval of higher authority.
Kerry answered warily.  He began by trying to make light of the clip. "
Where did all that dark hair go? -- that's a big question for me," he joked.  He went on to say that although some of his language had been "excessive," he was still proud of the stand he had taken.
His predicament is worth pondering.  The powers that be, with the approval of mainstream opinion, had sent him into a misbegotten war whose awful reality they covered up.  When he helped uncover it, it’s not they but he who gets punished.  In short, by sending young men into an atrocious, mistaken war, they created a truth so distasteful to the Public that its disclosure, by discrediting the discloser, keeps them in power.

Subject: Dear Osama, I accept your offer.

THERE HAS BEEN AN AMAZING RESPONSE TO THIS ACCEPTANCE OF OSAMA’S TRUCE OFFER, AS IF PEOPLE NEEDED SOMEWHERE TO OPENLY EXPRESS THEIR TRUE OPINIONS.
TURNS OUT THERE ARE A LOT MORE
SANE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAN THE PUBLIC MEDIA MIGHT LEAD U TO BELIEVE.
THE ACCEPTS ARE RUNNING AT 15:1.
HERE’S A CROSS SECTION….

SPREAD WORD OF THE OFFER!!!  3 MONTHS TO REACH A MAJORITY!!

Osama Bin Laden’s Offer
"I offer a truce to Europe, and agree wholeheartedly to stop operations against any state which promises to stop attacking Muslims or interfering in their affairs.  Acceptance of the truce starts with the withdrawal of the last soldier from our land.  The door is open for 3 months from the date of this announcement.
Whoever rejects this truce and chooses war, we are war's sons, but whoever wants this truce, here we offer it.
What happened on September 11 (U.S) and March 11 (Madrid) are your goods returned to you to make you understand that everyone wants security.  Our actions are responses to your actions - destroying and killing our people in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine.  You need look no further than the event that shocked the world, the killing of elderly, wheelchair-bound Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, God have mercy on him.  For this alone we pledge to All That Is Most Holy to take revenge on America.
Polls show Europeans want peace, and we urge academics, media people, activists and businessmen to form some kind of Council to inform European citizens of the justice of our causes, foremost Palestine.
Stop shedding our blood to save your own; the solution to this simple but complex equation is in your hands.  You know matters will escalate the more you delay, so do not blame us, blame yourselves.
Surely rational people will not squander their safety, wealth and families to appease the White House liar.  President Bush, leaders in his sphere, big media institutions, corporations and also the United Nations, all of them are a fatal danger to our world.  But the Zionist lobby is their most dangerous and difficult member, and we insist, God willing, on continuing to fight them.”

dear osama, i accept your offer, and shall work tirelessly to
·       remove all foreign troops from arab lands.  and from all other countries too.
·       send UN forces into Israel tomorrow to impose the 1967 borders while a full, fair and FINAL agreement is reached.
·       pay appropriate financial reparations to arabia, south america, africa and all the peoples we have bullied into making us wealthy, obese, and “free”.

do not, however, misunderstand this agreement, my man.  it is made from shame, and love, not from fear.

Fuck off.
>> right, we'll put you down for the infantry, right?

Airborne - 1st Div.   Been there done that.
>> and never hadda doubt as u looked down on those helpless lil ants, huh?

Helpless my ass.
Before you go sticking up for those raghead fucks with their martyrdom complexes, keep in mind that they'll slice your throat, stab your wife before raping her dead body, and then murder your 5 month old baby without batting an eye.
Then they'll tie your dying body to the rear bumper of their vehicle and drag you through the streets if you're lucky.
No self respecting country would even consider opening dialogue with dogs who stoop to that kind of mentality.
>> if the United States of Arabia had invaded america after the first world war, "cleared" your cities, stole all your oil for pennies while killing literally millions of american citizens, and hunted down your brave (now unquestionably psychopathic) warriors as "evil Bush remnants & terrorists" (for trying to get your army out of their country) how would YOU react? i think you'd be out there killing every man jack of them like the good red-blooded huMAN you are, i can hear it in everything you say, bro.

I agree.  But... not unconditionally.  OBL should include the US in his truce too.  Redemption should be available for them too.  I wish our 'leaders' (ha ha ha) would speak with the clarity and sense of Osama Bin Laden.  His words were far less violent than the Bush/Blair cabal.

OBL's statement is very sensible (sorry to plagiarise you Tony Bleah) and makes it clear what the root of issue is.  OBL, like us, wants to stop all forms of terrorism (whether hi-tech or not).

Personally, I reject totally all forms of violence.

But... if the smelly (
carbon emissions)and arrogant (Project for the New American Century) playground bully (USA) and his thick mates (Israel, UK etc.) keep beating up (murdering, maiming) the smaller kids (the peoples of Middle East etc.) and nicking their sweets (their land and their oil) is it any surprise if the smaller kids gang up and kick back in frustration to get them to stop?

Of course, all the kids and their teachers (
the 'leaders' of the 'free' world, UN) need to wake up to the injustices going on under their noses and put a stop to all the violence.  Then all the kids in the school can concentrate on what they are there for (learning to love & cooperate).

Peace, light and love,

Hi Fraser...you have excelled your own excellence here..
watching the news unfold and hearing the miserable and predictable response from the world "leaders".... with their counter propaganda ratcheting up the war... (not to mention the deal on the west bank!) I felt in my heart that it could only be right to talk and talk and talk with the Bin Man, even if he is as bad and mad as we can see he is, and I felt despair that my opinion could not be registered......
This morning comes your latest UP! to lift it UP!
* my judgement of him is based on the fact that he appears to love guns and caresses them with such apparent tenderness .....yeuk, how strangely like his sworn enemy's own, that little peccadillo is ! :o)

I have joined the I accept list of course...and thank you for the opportunity to express what comes from the heart.
However, I do think that this time we will have gone too far for our authorities to tolerate... this one will definitely get us all on the shit list, if we ain't there already... we must expect some trouble.
>> they’d be wasting my tax money if we weren’t on their shit list for any signs of violence.  but since there’s none, it’s THEM who are on OUR Almost Unpardonable List :)  remember it’s our DUTY to speak up in a democracy, not merely a RIGHT!

They wont even notice your perfect proviso
do not, however, misunderstand this agreement, my man. it is made from shame, and from love, not from fear.
We are going totally counter to their "interests" with this one, especially if you can get it noticed on the world stage that millions of Brits think we should talk, not fight... to secure understanding and peace.
As you know, the Bushblairsharon Babylon Beast will burn us for this.. they will see us as quislings, sympathisers and appeasers, traitors even.... because we would divide the "all-lie-ance" and play into Al-Qaeda’s hands....

Fear dominates the logic of war and warmakers on all sides.
In my view, of course, it would be no bad thing for us to distance ourselves from U.S. foreign policy but we can't.  This country is already the 51st state and eventually (in the same day that they totally ban RAVES, Trance music and Hendrix's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner) the likes of UP! readers will be rounded up as dissidents, as enemies of freedom fries, or some excuse or other.
Over our dead bodies, of course..... just the same as if we had rampant terrorism.
For with this... their picture of the world is as alien as the terrorists’ view, to us who see the bigger picture (re: UP! 192).
Tho the wicked find us guilty, truth, truth, shall prove our innocence.
Long live the spirit

Dear Fraser,
I only wonder what Bin Laden means with
"... stop... interfering in their affairs".  How far does that go?  Does this include the demand to grant expatriate Muslims living in Europe the right to breach constitutional laws merely because they belong to a given faith?
>> I think he means within their own lands.

A motto I have goes "Almost anything can be tolerated - except intolerance".  It can be extended to the question "Does freedom of religion apply to religions who oppose the freedom of religion?".
>> Dear God, please protect me from your followers.

As you know yourself, all religions are complex phenomena, and so is Islam.  There definitely are currents within Islam that are peaceful, spiritual and filled with loving care.  Others are fanatic, intolerant, inhumane and filled with a blind lust for power, just like you find your well meaning christian peace activist alongside the bigot book burner.
>> both monotheistic, hence liable to be caught in the old yin-yan.

Anyone who deems himself in the possession of absolute truth is prone to make mistakes for the absolute truth is not written down in books, and it is not likely to cause any violent motions in those who have glimpsed even the faintest spark of it.  Who is Osama Bin Laden to think he has the right to speak for every Muslim?
>> maybe we in the west are obsessed with rights?  how about duties?  when I step out of line it’s usually at the end of a process that goes:  the world really needs this to be done >> nobody seems to be doing it >> I better do it pour encourager les autres.

To me it also still seems possible that our (the public’s) general knowledge about the true motivation and the true events that are going on is highly distorted and incomplete.  Often I get the idea that we are witnessing not an uprising of the oppressed poor but a global gang war between powerful interest groups.  Something like a war between "Mafia" families that ran out of hand.  It might well be possible that the interests of the suppressed poor are merely exploited to serve the interests of one of those power groups.  I do not support Bush (and his string pullers), but neither do I support Bin Laden (and his - if there are any).  I would not want to live in a country ruled by Sheikh Osama.  I also would not want to live under Saddam.
>> “now none of this has anything to do with comparing one bad leader with another.  or saying one is 'better'.  because I don’t want ‘my country’ to invade other countries does not mean I want iraq to rule america!  nor does it mean I think saddam was a better ruler than bush.  it’s got nothing to do with fukkin personalities!  its’ about some kinda civilised international law and respect.”

While standing next to the big fire on Easter Sunday, a liberal Muslim friend of mine explained to me that in his religion women are much better off: they do not have to learn a profession, go out and earn money but instead they have enough time to stay in the house and take care of the children.  Next to him, listening in disbelief, was another muslim friend, a successful business woman working in the top management of a medical supply company.  She also takes her religion seriously but, like me, would not want to live under Bin Laden or a Taliban-like regime.

There is truth in what you write on "
the problem/peace solution".  But I must say that I do not see any easy path that realistically could be walked towards a solution.  There simply are too many blockheads involved, many of them running the show.
>> UN reformed  by mass people-pressure.  financial reparations could be funnelled thru the UN etc, thus bypassing the corrupt rulers (allies of the western empire), thus undermining them, and thus actually helping bring about the very changes to freedom & democracy that Bush will NEVER bring about.

They give the same stupid ancient answers to the same age old unsolved questions.  Absolute truth may not be written down in books, but wisdom is: Only he truly wins who does not fight.  The true and simple answers have been on the table for Millennia.  But even in less complicated times the path of love and wisdom was hardly followed - on the contrary: even the messages of love and peace was and is raped and used as an excuse for war and violence.
>> too true.  have u noticed how bushblair continuously justify massive murders by calling it “the price of bringing peace”.  dubble speak like I haven’t heard since vietnam.

But finally: what I appreciate much is that you are at least searching for an answer.  I often find myself in a sigh-state of mind, close to resignation, and with just a hollow emptiness under my skull.  So nevertheless: walk your path.  We need these voices in the wilderness more than ever.
>> go easy on the wilderness talk there. boy :)  we’re coming in out of a lifetime in the wilderness!  it’s the dinos who’re heading there.

>> I share some of these worries.  but that‘s basically for them to work through in their own time and in their own countries, no?  if islam is as slow as Xtianity it will take them another 500 years or so.  but we’re forcing them to do it in a decade or two.  and our pressure is actually distorting it terribly.

You are continuing to portray this insane terrorist as a rational leader.
He is another misguided rich boy with nothing better to do than to assume that he can lead masses of uneducated people into salvation.
Give me a break.
>> who do YOU suggest we should deal with then?  who represents pan-arabia’s demands best?  a fat sheikh?  a peacemaker we never heard of?

The tiny nation of Israel, surrounded by tens of millions of Arabs, none of whom have given the least amount of support to the supposed Palestine people, is trying to survive. There was nothing in Israel prior to their settlements 50 years ago, and now the "refugees" want something.
>> oh dear. deeply propagandised on this point i see.

Refugees in the U.S. get jobs, create businesses, find ways to educate their children, build homes for themselves. Why don't you try looking at the mentality that people like Arafat (now fabulously wealthy just like all the other self serving politicians of the world)
>> you know, that is about the most tragically and offensively stupid thing i’ve heard this millennium except when bush is speaking.  i OFTEN wonder why people like arafat continue to do what they do when i would fukking get out and have all the women and song i could handle for the rest of my old age.  and yet he keeps on.  and that’s when i am filled with a deep respect for their courage, more than mine but then am in a defferent cultural situation.

continue to perpetrate on "his people": the idea that they are owed something.
>> their land?  that really dosdn’t count?  i think they’d be happy for the israelis to take their swimmin pools with them.  boy, r u so brainwashed on this subject u actually perceive things that are not there.

If they're owed something let them get it from the billionaire sheiks who have supposed socialistic constitutions yet don't give a damn or money to their own people.
>> look, drone-boy, WE have screwed up arabia since at least the second world war.  WE have pretty much placed EVERY fat sheikh they have in their place (and invaded or assassinated any who disobeyed).  and WE largely did it by paying those quisling leaders’ untold millions.  and WE did this becaue what’s MILLIONS when WE are getting the arabs’ ZILLIONS??!!  wake UP!!.  someone has been tellin you lies.  THINK FOR YOURSELF AND QUESTION AUTHORITY!

Stop talking about the Zionist, Jewish conspiracy.
When kids strap bombs on themselves and enter into civilian streets, buses, and shops and detonate themselves, they are not suicide bombers. They are MURDERERS.
>> they must have been driven BEYOND utter despair, no?  u really don’t see that?!

And when Israel retaliates, they are defending themselves.  Just as when 9/11 happens it's because people are retaliating against the relentless attacks against them by Americans.
>> u r almost there.  the arabs struck back because america had been abusing them for decades.  now you complete the sentence: the Pals strike back because....

Obviously, there has to be a peace. There has to be a truce. There has to be a greater understanding amongst people (and governments) that the killing doesn't work.
But to blame it on the Jews, or the Americans, is simply naive.
>> follow the money.  ask who’s got the power.  ask who has the power to change the situation, cos only one side has and it’s NOISILY DAILY demanding the other side change first.  HELLO, DO U GETTIT NOW??!!

You went to Iraq and saw people hating the Americans. Did you bother to interview people whose families were split apart or killed by Saddam? Did you talk to people who weren't wielding weapons against the Americans? Were the people you saw roused by outside Islamic terrorists
>> like opposed to outside american terrorists u mean?

or by what they really wanted? I generally enjoy your glibness, but your supposed reporting is really quite shallow.
>> never been to iraq in me life, bro :)  anyway, don’t u get enuff pro-invasion news every day?  u want MORE?!

And to support Bin Laden's bullshit about get out and all will be well? Get real.
He is a terrorist.
>> actually what does that have to do with it?  we’re terrorists so what?  anyone who’s trying to resolve a growing battle of civilisations gets a vote from me, no?

The vast majority of people on this planet want to live in peace, share with one another, work towards building better lives for their families, etc. Terrorism is aimed at those people. Terrorism is designed to kill and maim innocent people.
>> oh please.  why don’t you see and then admit into your head that we are doing a thousand times more damage to their ‚ordinary’ people than they are doing to ours.  how can u not see that?!

To even listen to this stain on the consciousness of humanity is far too much to ask.  And don't get me wrong - to listen to Bush and his cronies is far too much to ask. Or Sharon. Equal in lies and disrespect for human life.
>> good.  but then why do u follow them when they refuse to deal with the other side’s psychopaths?!

But NO NO NO! I will not, ever, accept Bin Laden's ultimatum.
>> „stop attacking us or we shall continue to defend ourselves“ is an ultimatum izzit?  that’s pure sharon-think.  do u really want the planet to be a palestine?!!  with us on the front lines?

I OPPOSE THE U.N. GETTING INVOLVED IN IRAQ
by Michael Moore
There’s a lot of talk amongst Bush's opponents that we should turn this war over to the United Nations.  Why should the other countries of this world, countries who tried to talk us out of this folly, now have to clean up our mess?  I oppose the U.N. or anyone else risking the lives of their citizens to extract us from our debacle.

I'm sorry, but
the majority of Americans supported this war once it began and, sadly, that majority must now sacrifice their children until enough blood has been let that maybe - just maybe - God and the Iraqi people will forgive us in the end.

Until then, enjoy the "
pacification" of Falluja, the "containment" of Sadr City, and the next Tet Offensive oops, I mean, "terrorist attack by a small group of Baathist loyalists"  (Hahaha! Hi Fraser,
“pay appropriate financial reparations to arabia, south america, africa & all the peoples we've bullied into making us wealthy, obese, and "free".

This was a frequent demand of African nationalists, among them my old MP, the late Bernie Grant.  I always found it highly problematic,
because it isn't a simple question of Europeans vs. Africans, or any other continents you care to name.
>> agreed. nobody’s saying it’ll be easy, but it’s necessary and it’s a lot easier than launching a war.  and, at the current rate, probably even cheaper!

To give an example, if we pay reparations to Nigeria in compensation for slavery, the money could go to distant relations of Olaudah Equiano, who wrote an autobiography of his own experience as a slave - this book became powerful propaganda for abolition:
http://www.brycchancarey.com/equiano/
On the other hand, Equiano's account has Africans making him a slave, and transporting him to the coast in order to sell him to the white
men. Are we going to compensate the descendants of the people who kidnapped him?
>> I don’t see it as individual as that.  more like a series of class actions through a UN panel etc.
Daniel James, London.
up!

>>> The problem has always been that the leaders of the world do as they wish, regardless of what the people think and want.  As for striking at innocent people who may or may not agree with Osama, it is to be condemned.  I don't believe in strikes that punish the people instead of those who make decisions.  If Osama is sincere in his wishes, then he has to attack those leaders he mentions and not the people of this world.  We just get caught in a trap and can do nothing except back our spineless leaders against Osama.
>> why must we do that?!  it’s your DUTY to stop them in every way you can!

> But I do do what I can.  I protest, I march, I write/sign leaflets, I forward info on the net.....what is the use if they aren't listening?

"we can do nothing except back our spineless leaders against Osama".  maybe it's a language thing, tam, but that sounds like a subconsciously assumed duty to ALWAYS support the home team, no?  i get that a lot - like, no matter how savagely we slaughter the poor natives, we are after all the only true source of civilization on this sorry planet kinda thing?

>>> Osama is not the answer to the Muslim world either.  What makes him think he is a better leader than those he mentions.   He is simply a Robin Hood who is trying to do some good but is using terrible methods that can only backfire on him.  So how can, we the people, of this earth, accept his offer?  I can understand the principle of what he wants, as anyone can, but I cannot support the methods as I have no say in the decision-making of this world and I don't see why I should be punished for this by Osama or Bush.
>> what you're saying seems to boil down to:  i am paying for the bombs that are killing your people but actually i am living a nice comfortable liberal lifestyle and am neutral and you should not be attacking me you should be attacking my government's nuclear institutions and moon bases.  hardly.  YOU are responsible for what is happening and deciding you can do nothing about is just that:  your own personal conclusion (I’d say cop-out).  no?

> I am not willing to pay for the bombs and believe me I am as angry as the next person about the killing of the thousands of innocent people in my name (this has nothing to do with any lifestyle I live)

it does actually.  u (and i and all of us) can afford ourselves a higher morality.

> but do you really think that in this modern world, I can say to anyone that my taxes are mine and mine alone without stupidly ending up in prison?  And what would be the point of that?  However, I refuse to back one side against the other just to be caught in the middle.  Osama is still not the answer even if he is right about many things.  Bush is certainly NOT the answer and he is wrong about almost everything.   I do feel responsible and I will vote against bush but this may not be enough.  However, all this said, I am not willing to give my life (again stupidly) to please osama or his henchmen.   Why, when I am protesting and standing up against the bushclan, must I also be a victim of the side that I am not entirely against?  Do you understand what I am saying?  My blood is not going to solve the issue.

i do understand.  and i certainly didn't mean to attack u personally.  i was trying to ruthlessly inspect an attitude or layers of attitude.  now that i know even more about you, let me try to be more clear because i know you will understand and consider it fairly. and we touch on one of the Great Issues of our Era here.

first, to say that osama (or any previously demonised independent minded non-westerner) is RIGHT in what he says, is NOT an endorsement of his lifestyle.  i am always reminded of mediaeval witch hunts when stating even a single mitigating circumstance (like her herbs actually cured people) put you in immediate danger of being NOT on the Lord’s side.  with us or against us.  it is very dangerous territory and it takes courage to step into it as i do.
second, since we have separated, demonised and trashed every politically legitimate leader of theirs (currently it's ben Sadr? the demon mullah) we, as citizens of the Dominant Power, can hardly demand political legitimacy in 'their' leaders.  we can EXPECT to find any serious resistance in caves and deserts.
third, just because 'their' 'leader' is not gandhi or mandela and uses violent resistance CANNOT be allowed to mislead us from the primal question of justice.
fourthly, when, unlike ever before, the president can press a button and a drone will destroy any individual anywhere on the planet, freedom fighters cannot honestly be blamed for being unable to attack armed headquarters of even the Enemy's soldiers (as in palestine)  we're talking carpet-cutters against nuclear missiles here.  so the choice is to attack the fat soft underbelly of the Beast who is destroying your people and their soul.  i personally am not prepared to morally dismiss such people.  given the impossible odds they are taking on, i cannot but have some true respect for their courage and determination.  while accepting, with wide open eyes, that they will be suffering for their decisions and will almost certainly be ultimately driven mad.

> You don't know who I am, so please don't judge over hastily.

sorry if i did.  but i think what i do these days is just slam into any weak point in your argument which is often the best i can do with the amount of mail i get :)  it's done with love :)

I am one of those people who has frozen my butt off standing on streets handing out leaflets to passerby just so they would learn to care about Afghanis, Palestinians, Iraqis as much as they care about Spanish and Americans.  But I am damned if I have to give my blood so osama can have his way.  Can you understand this?

turn it the other way.  what would you DO if you were in soma’s position?  wouldn't it look to you that if that great mass of fat mid west mentality continues somehow to allow and pay for these continuing atrocities and they're the only one not guarded....  then u have ONE choice only.  accept and give up (as even u in the west have partly done).  or fight back in the only way you have.

> You can attack me all you want but this is absolutely wrong and will not make bush and co stop their idiocies.

no, but it will UNQUESTIONABLY force all of the population to face up to these issues AS IF THEY WERE PERSONAL TO THEM and hence apply pressure on their leaders from within.  this is unarguable.

> Osama or whoever has to make these people responsible for their acts and not me responsible for their acts.  That, my friend, is the real cop-out.

in a democracy it is OUR duty to make our leaders responsible for our foreign activities.  if our population is not doing that (despite its heroes and heroines like ourselves:) then the 'other side' must awaken them to their duty i spose, no?  always ask:  WHAT ELSE CAN THEY DO?  in other words, in a democracy nobody has a cop-out default position.

to tell the truth (see if this rings true for you) i sometimes used to feel that my whole life has consisted of smart asses who just didn't want to KNOW,  just wanted to get on with their private lives or whatever and didn't care about the injustices their middle class consumer lives were built on etc.  terrorism puts them on the front line WHERE THEY ALWAYS BELONGED.  to me, that is 'Good'.

and, on a personal level, i've noticed that people who have never suffered as we have over these ongoing injustices are the ones who get into a real panic and sweat while we seem to understand the scale of it all and feel as small and insignificant as actually our chances are of getting hit by what we know is really a very few very brave and committed rebels.

> I have decided quite the opposite of what you are suggesting and I am listening to you and others and I am actively involved in trying to stop the political stupidity and I don't want moon bases or earth bases of any military organization anywhere in the world.

my point there was to invite you to morally reconsider the question of terrorism from the point of view of a simple towel head with carpet cutters up against a military power with moon bases.  what could/would YOU do in such an impossible situation?  the Sleeping Majority in our democracy's population needs awakening.  that needs Big Shocks.  there's no doubt in my mind that history will see it that way.  your Robin Hood analogy is correct i think.  osama will become the Robin Hood of the Second Millennium and, as with the original hero. nobody will question his methods, much

> I am anti-nuclear for everyone and not just for so-called 'rogue' states.  I don't want to die for bush's idiocy but I don't accept to die for osama's idiocy either.  I deny them both!

In the meantime, I support your own efforts to draw attention to all this and hope you will continue.  Even if I don't always like your style, I think you have the right to write what you do and some of it is even excellent material.
Best of luck,

Peace, Peace, be always everywhere, as the Essenes would say...
Hmmm... 'Osama' seems on the button.  Knocks out the whole 'irrational maniacs with no demands, irrational fundamentalists who hate our freedoms, there can be no negotiations'

BUT:   Incredulous.  Suspicious.

Osama, Al Qaeda etc have always seen as a contrived Spectacle, the Villain and the intangible everywhere conspiracy.
Al-Q was/is a CIA asset, a spook wet dream.
This isn't blowback, it’s the game plan.  It’s the excuse, the nodal point to integrate all enemies.  But nonetheless a fantasy.
And O's knowledge of the Halliburton/Gang comes from close association.  He was/is one of them.  So he saw the light, why?
IMHO they said it was him, therefore it wasn't.  Because they are liars, and the story is bunk.  Paranoid logic i know, but paranoid times.  Still think they playing both sides, an integrated game.
So when the 'Bad Guy' says 'Peace!'… I wonder... keep in mind 'with us or against us'

I don't know...not claiming a Story, just a hunch the game is rigged, and we may well be being played for fools.

"THE REAL THREAT"
Ciro Scotti,
Senior Editor, Business Week
Why was the Bush Administration so hell-bent on taking out Saddam Hussein that it would turn its back on a world offering sympathy and support after September 11?  Why was it so adamant in its adventurism that it would gild the threat that Iraq posed to the U.S. - and then put its troops in harm's way - when no clear or present danger existed?

Rishard Clarke cites 5 rationales:

1.      Finishing the job Bush 1 started
2.      Pulling U.S. troops out of Saudi Arabia (where they were a counterweight to Iraq but unwelcome)
3.      Creating a model Arab democracy.
4.      Opening a new and friendly oil supply line.
5.      Safeguarding Israel by eliminating a military threat.

"I'll tell you what the real threat is and actually has been since 1990 - it's the threat against Israel.  And this is the threat that dares not speak its name because... the American government doesn't want to lean too hard on it rhetorically because it's not a popular sell."  Philip Zelikow, executive director of the September 11 Commission, during a war-on-terror forum at the University of Virginia Law School on Sept. 10, 2002.  Zelikow served on the National Security Council, was on the Bush transition team, and was a member of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board from 2001 to 2003.

So to boil all this down, we went to war, sacrificed thousands of human lives, racked up billions in bills, and flouted the rules of international law for 3 basic reasons:
Israel, oil, and the vengeance of a son whose father didn't finish off Saddam!  When you think that Bill Clinton was impeached and almost tossed out of office for fooling around with a willing intern and then lying about it, his sins seem like very small potatoes.  Very small potatoes indeed.
UP!  DISARMAGEDDON.   The inevitable day when we humans finally lay down our arms.  We will look pretty foolish with our arms on the ground and our butts sticking up in the air, but you know what?  You cannot attack anyone in that position.   See Nonjudgment Day. SAT APRIL 14    Terrorist attack on Aboriginal Tent Embassy
At around 8pm, the Aboriginal Tent Embassy, opposite Old Parliament House, was once again fire-bombed in what, in the current climate, can only be described as an act of terrorism. Once again sacred aboriginal land has been desecrated and lives put at risk.

The tent embassy still stands as the front line for peace, land rights, human rights and sovereignty of the lawful custodians AND WILL NOT BE MOVED. Those who reside at the embassy have lost homes and personal belongings as the large camp lies in burnt scrap, plus the embassy has lost important documents and historical records forever. If this had occurred at any other embassy in Canberra the response would have been huge. Yet this government remains inactive and silent.

While millions are spent on the “war on terror”, politically motivated acts of terror are being committed, and largely ignored, only a few hundred metres from the doorstep of Parliament House. Actions must be taken to convict, under new terrorism laws, those responsible for these potentially life-threatening attacks.

The embattled residents of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy are calling for donations from the community to help repair some of the damage left behind.  Especially clothing, tents or tarps in fact any donation will be greatly appreciated.

blow that cosmic horn, man!
physicists observing radiation echoes (which most wrongly believe are from some Big Bang) have come up with a new theory of the shape of the universe.  it’s like an incredibly long trumpet which flares out into an unimaginably huge bell.
is this ringing any bells?
a team from Germany’s University of Blum has put forward the theory to explain why small blobs of hot and cold microwaves are elliptical when they should be round.  a saddle-shape at this particular point of the universe would explain the phenomenon.
in this model, anyone who travelled to the thin end of the trumpet would arrive in a 2-dimensional world where he’d be looking at the back of his own head.  and if he flew to the extreme limit of the bell?  why, he would reappear at the thin end of the trumpet!
ringing any bells yet?

Fraser Clark, January 1991
We children of the evolution
· condemn the greed and arrogance of the fundamentalist military industrial patriarchy which rules over us in the Developed West, and whose power now threatens the entire planet

· ap0logise directly, people to people, for all the injustices that have been perpetrated in our name (and to our material benefit) against the Arabs and Muslims (and all other races and civilisations) since as far back as the Crusades, and continuing today.

while using our tax money and keeping us (and most of you) in ignorance, our governments have ‘stabilised’ the price of oil unfairly low by installing corrupt, western-conditioned sheikhdoms over your peoples, backed by a military threat that is only public for all to see when someone dares to stand against it,

· fully admit and accept that, had the price of oil, since the Second World War, been set at its true market value (as our rulers profess to believe) the Arab world might now be as developed as ours.

· beg only that you, in your noble patience, and in the interests of peace among the peoples of our planet, allow us till the year 2000 to correct all injustices against you.
For which boon we hereby pledge
and commit ourselves to

· work tirelessly to inform and persuade our fellow citizens to smoothly, freely and democratically purify and reform our Evil Empire, and so begin to undo the Sins of our Fathers

· put aside all thought of ‘national interests’ and learn to live with less, so becoming kinder, fairer, and more nature-based citizens worthy to share this beautiful planet with all our brothers and sisters.

ANOTHER VIETNAM OR NOT?
During the Vietnam War, we were told a steady stream of lies regarding the rationale, conduct and outcome of America’s intervention there.  This was supposedly a battle to secure the world for democracy.   In fact the U.S. was engaged in an imperialistic effort to make the region’s natural and human resources readily, cheaply available to profit-seeking multinational corporations.  Dwight Eisenhower admitted in his memoirs that access to tin, tungsten and rubber was the motive.

From a fabricated
Tonkin Gulf incident to the myth-shattering Tet offensive - with numbing revelations such as My Lai in the bloody mix - America took heavy blows to its collective psyche... as returning aluminum caskets piled up on airport tarmac.

Repeated promises of
light at the end of the tunnel proved bleakly false.  We sank deeper into the heart of darkness.  The tallied dead formed a legion of ghosts that would haunt us for decades.
>> though not nearly enough, thousands of cripples still, anonymous and uncompensated, hobble that area while the inhuman emotional scars of hundreds of thousands suffer, unapologised for.  talk about Holocaust!   and what have we been doing all this time?!

Besides swirling sand replacing shifting elephant grass,
what’s different with Iraq todayInstead of contrived assertions about naval vessels being attacked off Vietnam's coast, we have lying, professionally spun claims of weapons of mass destruction.
>> when will our eyes be opened to the ongoing fact that our “cradle of civilisation” is the planet’s weapon of mass destruction?!

Perhaps the most tragic parallel is the deliberate misrepresentation of people's loyalties.  Where did we hear before how flags and flowers would wave to welcome us liberators, how “normal, decent” locals secretly wanted us there?  In Vietnam,
just before the locals started rolling hand grenades under GI’s tents.  And, Vietnam or Iraq, what’s a kid from Kansas to do when it turns out that everyone hates the Yankees?  Very likely, shoot every towel head in sight.

Civilians fleeing
Fallujah tell uniformly shocking stories of women, children, and elderly human beings (in the midst of love affairs, studies, baker’s apprenticeships, meditations on the Meaning of Life or daydreams of being a famous footballer) being (vengefully?) blasted and sniped by advancing Marines.  Reports from journalists “lucky enough” to be there (and to not be local, of course, though soldiers and mercenaries are becoming increasingly psychopathic) validate all this.

The dead are being buried in two soccer fields.  Probably half are non-combatants.

Even more soul-devouring is pondering the phenomenon we came to stunningly first experience in connection with Vietnam: how propaganda and deceit by those in power can make
murderers - instead of dutiful soldiers - out of 'good kids' thrust into situations where reality conflicts with what they'd been duped to expect.  Long years of being culturally attuned to a racist portrayal of Arabs and Muslims as 'rag head' and 'camel jockey' terrorists make the trigger pulling that much easier.
>> while Al Jazeera and other foreign outlets run grisly footage of 400 totally innocent humans being slaughtered on their way to the office and a thousand being crippled for life, american media describe the horror of ONE kidnapped soldier!  such barbarity!!  yes, the battle today is for peoples’ minds.

Transforming innocence into the sociopathically bad and ugly - on the most basic human level - is the reactionary warmongers’ greatest sin.

And a monstrous crime far beyond any possible forgiveness.

New Reports on U.S. Planting WMDs in Iraq… while tony blair speaks “freedom” and smiles his reasonable smile (“lying eyes” as john prescott once called them, according to george galloway’s new book) does he know what’s being done by his coalitionOF COURSE HE BLUDDY DOES!)
Mehr News Agency/Iran  April 13, 2004. © Copyright

BASRA -  50 days after the first reports that U.S. forces were unloading WMD in southern Iraq, new reports on the movement of these weapons have been disclosed.  Sources there speculate that the recent unrest is being used to divert attention from these surreptitious shipments.

A source close to the Basra Governor’s Office told the MNA that a large part of the WMD, secretly brought to southern and western Iraq over the past month, are in containers falsely labelled Maeresk Shipping Company, Red Cross or USAID.  Iraqi officials have been forbidden to inspect or supervise these consignments, and have been ordered to forward any questions to the coalition forces.  International relief organisations have even had to inform Iraqi officials that they will accept responsibility only for shipments registered and managed directly by themselves.

The same source also confirmed reports of suspicious trucks with fake Saudi and Jordanian licence plates entering Iraq at night last week, stressing that the Saudi and Jordanian border guards made no attempt to inspect the trucks but simply delivered them to the U.S./British forces on Iraq’s borders.
>> porous to all kinda disgusting terrorists these days.

Whether the governments of Saudi Arabia and Jordan were aware is unknown.

…. Meanwhile a Baghdad University physics professor has described to an MNA correspondent how he and several colleagues specialising in military, chemical and biological fields have been bribed, threatened or bluntly asked to confirm or deny in writing the existence of various programs, research centers and possible storage of WMD equipment.  Many of these scientists (believed to be under the surveillance of U.S. intelligence operatives) claim that any refusals could cause them to be killed, or charged with concealing the truth should such weapons be ‘found’ in the future.  All recall that senior U.S. officer Michael Peterson once said, "Iraqi scientists are at any case a threat to the U.S. administration, whether they talk or not."

…. Another source, close to the Iraqi Governing Council, confirmed, "Many containers disguised as fuel supplies have been moved by units of the U.S. special forces under heavy security measures. They held biological and bacteriological toxins in liquid form.  Such mixtures were used by the Saddam regime in the 1990s.”

The Madness of President George
1/ Bush should hold more press conferences, to provide the people of the planet with ever more windows into the mind of one of the most dangerous men ever to occupy the White House.

The whole world is learning an important thing: don't end up like pathetic George  blind to reality, muttering clichés, oblivious to the wreckage and evil for which he is responsible.  We need to know the truth, and the truth is that this man is dangerous

He is wilfully ignorant of what is going on in Iraq but cocksure that not only is he doing the right thing, but that God is blessing and directing his every decision, even to the point that he imagines himself to be infallible (or, rather, he cannot generate any evidence of fallibility when asked).

He is the most dangerous man on the planet because he autocratically heads the most powerful and well-armed state in the history of the world.  He has access to many thousands of weapons of mass destruction, and has shown himself perfectly willing to use them against anyone he regards as a foe.  By comparison to his predecessor in the White House, Bush is alarming, the kind of president who seems capable of blowing up the world and calling it good.

I am supposed to recite the facts without rhetoric in order to convert those who think George is nothing but a godly man heading the free world’s efforts to protect itself against barbarism.  But the situation is so desperate, it seems to
call for more frank talk.  People who are still defending George don't need patient argument; they need shock therapy.

If you doubt this, check the transcript of that press conference.  In much of what he says, he gets the truth exactly backwards in ways that anyone who reads the news can discern.  He admits (for the first time?) that the US is militarily occupying Iraq, but claims that resister are rejecting "freedom" and "self government"  - the rapist sermonising on the need to respect the physical integrity and dignity of his victims.

The occupier who announces through a bullhorn "Submit or Die!" has some chutzpah claiming to be a liberator.  This is beyond Orwell.  It's evil, crazy, or both.  Websites that reviewed that speech the way they review a movie or play ought to suffer everlasting disgrace.

We must first deal with the problem that
George seems genuinely mad. There was a riddle in nearly every sentence.  He spoke like someone dramatically out of touch with what everyone else knowsThe whole scene was a bit wacky, like the uncle everyone knows is crazy coming to the family reunion and being humoured because he’s family.  People were going easy on George just because he seemed to be speaking about another planet.

Now, here we have a "war" that has proven to be a complete calamity in every conceivable way.  The blood and violence are ghastly.  It started as a war for democracy and American values and is ending in body bags, a radicalised population, hundreds of billions wasted, and an emboldened horde of terrorists from all countries.  The original rationales for the war are proven hoaxes.  The soldiers hate it, and are now doing extra time.  The Iraqis hate the soldiers.  US trained Iraqis are AWOL.  We are talking here about
a war disaster of historic proportions, even for the aggressor state.

But the press seemed reluctant to point this out,
as if George had his finger on a button that could blow them all up.  Instead, they, very gingerly, put him on the couch.  What mistakes had he made?  Are there things he would do differently?  Just asking, George.  Not hinting at a thing.  Just a normal sort of question every president is asked.  Everyone makes mistakes, you know; nothing to be ashamed of.

Nope, said George, nothing he can think of.  It was almost cartoonish.  But in real life, it is extremely scary. The press was evidently confused by the whole scene, their eyes darting back and forth to each other in bemusement.  The efforts to report on the event the next day were similarly strained.  The headlines could have run: "President Bush Has Gone Off the Rails."  But since press etiquette demands he be treated with great deference, the stories were all variations of: "George Bush today pledged to continue the offensive in Iraq, while denying his administration has made errors in judgment…"

George isn't the first and certainly won’t be the last crazy president.  Power tends to do this to people.  Witness Lying Eyes Blair.  The sin of mass murder does it too.  It makes them callous, nuts, dangerous.  The answer is not to replace him with Kerry, or Clinton, or Carter, or some other person who seems more peaceful in some way.  Bush also seemed rather peaceful during the election.

The urgent moral priority of our time is to dismantle the warfare state, disarm the nukes,
roll back the empire from every corner of the globe.  We want to live in a country even a crazy man can head and not have it be dangerous for us or the world.

The Madness of President George
2/ Planet turning into Israel?
Outraged by Bush's embrace of Ariel Sharon and the bloody U.S. assault on Fallujah, the Arab world is linking America's occupation with Israel's.  That's ominous.

One year after Baghdad fell to victorious U.S. troops, the Americans had to conquer the country all over again.  The Great April 2004 Rebellion expelled the U.S. from much of the capital, humiliated coalition allies, cut supply and communications lines to the south, and revealed a reservoir of popular hatred for the U.S. among both some Sunni Arabs in Fallujah and some Shiites in their cities

But most ominous for the U.S. was the tying together of 2 occupations and 2
intifadas (popular uprisings) - Iraq and Palestine.

In his April 13th press conference, Bush gave these reasons for cracking down on Iraqi insurgents…
1.      He said their motivation was the same as those who set off bombs in Jerusalem.
2.      He tied them to the murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, executed by al-Qaeda in part for being Jewish.
3.      He also cited Shiite radical Muqtada al-Sadr's support for the Palestinian Hamas and the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah party.
4.      He gave as one reason for the Iraq Invasion Saddam’s support for Palestinian terrorists.

He, in fact, presented the Iraq war and its violent aftermath as an extension of the Israeli struggle
to subjugate the Palestinians and Hezbollah.

Before the war, the Bush Gang connected
nonexistent dots between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda.  Now they’re mapping the Iraq conflict onto the Likud Party agenda in Palestine.

This time, however, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy - and one that will have devastating repercussions for U.S. interests in both Iraq and the entire Arab world.

The Madness of President George
3/  Screaming And Near Fist Fights
by George Monbiot
To understand what is happening in the Middle East, you must first understand what is happening in Texas.  To understand what is happening there, you should read the resolutions passed at the state's Republican party conventions last month.  Take a look, for example, at the decisions made in Harris County, which covers much of Houston.
The delegates began by nodding through a few uncontroversial matters:
- homosexuality is contrary to the truths ordained by God
- "any mechanism to process, license, record, register or monitor the ownership of guns" should be repealed
- income tax, inheritance tax, capital gains tax and corporation tax should be abolished
- immigrants should be deterred by electric fences.

Thus fortified, they turned to the real issue: the affairs of a small state 7,000 miles away.  It was then, according to a participant, that the "
screaming and near fist fights" began.

I don't know what the original motion said, but apparently it was "
watered down significantly" as a result of the shouting match.  The motion they adopted stated that Israel has an undivided claim to Jerusalem and the West Bank, that Arab states should be "pressured" to absorb refugees from Palestine, and that Israel should do whatever it wishes in seeking to eliminate terrorismGood to see that the extremists didn't prevail then.

But why should all this be of such pressing interest to the people of a state seldom celebrated for its fascination with foreign affairs?  The explanation is slowly becoming familiar to us, but
we still have difficulty in taking it seriously.

In the United States, several million people have succumbed to an extraordinary delusion.  In the 19th century, two immigrant preachers cobbled together a series of unrelated passages from the Bible to create what appears to be a consistent narrative:
Jesus will return to Earth when certain preconditions have been met

FIRST CONDITION:
the establishment of a state of Israel.
SECOND CONDITION: Israel's occupation of the rest of its "biblical lands" (most of the Middle East)
THIRD CONDITION: The rebuilding of the Third Temple on the site now occupied by the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa mosques.
FOUTH CONDITION:
The legions of the antichrist will then be deployed against Israel, and their war will lead to a final showdown in the valley of Armageddon.
FIFTH CONDITON: The Jews will either burn or convert to Christianity.
>> presumably they got their own ideas

Then the Messiah will return to Earth.  And call forth the True Believers.

So here we have a major political constituency - representing much of the current president's core vote - in the most powerful nation on Earth, which is actively seeking to provoke a new world war.  Its members see the invasion of Iraq as a warm-up act, as Revelation (9:14-15). They batter down the doors of the White House as soon as its support for Israel wavers: when Bush asked Ariel Sharon to pull his tanks out of Jenin in 2002, he received 100,000 angry emails from Christian fundamentalists, and never mentioned the matter again.

The electoral calculation, mad as it appears, works like this.  Governments stand or fall on domestic issues.  For 85% of the US electorate, the Middle East is a foreign issue, and therefore of secondary interest when they enter the polling booth.  For 15% of the electorate, the Middle East is not just a domestic matter, it's a personal one: if the president fails to start a conflagration there,
his core voters don't get to sit at the right hand of God.  Bush, in other words, stands to lose fewer votes by encouraging Israeli aggression than by restraining it.

He would be
mad to listen to these people.  He would also be mad not to.
The Madness of President George indeed!

The Bloody But Defeated Logic Behind Sharon's Masterplan
by Bernard Wasserstein
The murder of Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi, like that of his predecessor, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, is part of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's two-pronged plan for extracting Israel from the morass of permanent warfare.  Sharon means to pursue Hamas and Islamic Jihad to the limit in order to prevent these organisations claiming that they have succeeded in forcing Israel to retreat.  At the same time he is determined to get out of Gaza and most of the heavily Arab-populated areas of the West Bank.  By killing Rantisi and Yassin he wants to prove, particularly to his Israeli supporters, that the decision to wave goodbye to Gaza is Israel's alone.

Nevertheless, the fundamental lesson of recent tumultuous events is that the beginning of the end of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories conquered in the Six-Day War of 1967 is now in sight. Sharon's plan for withdrawal from Gaza and parts of the West Bank, which received an imperial blessing from President Bush this week, marks the decisive stage in a wearying process of Israeli retraction from Arab lands.

Much attention has been focused on Mr Sharon's insistence that Israel will retain six settlement blocks in the West Bank, holding 92,000 people.  More significant, however, is what that statement tacitly conceded: most West Bank settlements, holding some 128,000 people, will disappear.  Their inhabitants will be brought back to Israel.  Even those of us who regard Mr Sharon as a moral stain on Israeli history must acknowledge that this is a dramatic U-turn.  Why and how is this happening?

Over the past 3 years a new political realism has slowly and painfully emerged on the Israeli centre-right.  In some ways it is akin to the revolution in consciousness among South African National Party leaders in the final years of apartheid.  In the eyes of Israeli right-wingers, nothing has seemed to work for Israel over the past decade: neither negotiation nor repression.  Disoriented and frustrated, Mr Sharon and other senior figures have at last begun to internalise reality and they now understand that Israel, faces imminent defeat in its long demographic struggle to secure a Jewish majority between the River Jordan and the Mediterranean.  The Settlement Project of the past generation has failed in its central objective.  Israel can no longer hope to sustain her position in the occupied territories without a sacrifice of blood and treasure that is simply unacceptable to most of her citizens
>> and certainly the rapidly awakening wider world.

This realisation has spread from the political class to many of its supporters.  Rightists now commonly talk with baffled, contemptuous defiance of leaving the Palestinians to stew in their own juice and obliging them to "take responsibility" for their own lives.

CLUBBERS FALL UNDER SPELL OF PSYTRANCE// FEEDBACK

Hi Fraser.  Thanks for your newsletter as usual.  I wanted to give my feedback on someone else's feedback, regarding the psytrance scene.

>>>I don't know anyone who takes this music seriously anymore.
>> u mean slightly older ravers?  like u and moi?  and besides, we’re really talking about the culture around the music.
Funny, as someone highly involved as a DJ and partygoer, and soon to be party thrower and trance traveller, I know LOTS of people who take it pretty seriously.

>>>It hasn't really changed for almost a decade - yet so much else has.
>> this is the whole point.  the commercial (meaningless but nice just-dance stuff) kept it out of the mainstream, and even when it was finally taken up it was changed to "hard trance" (contradiction in terms) or "progressive
trance".  anyway it's the hippy lifestyle that goes with it, anti-war, pro-democratic, cooperative and planetary.
Actually it has changed *tremendously* in the past decade.  Psytrance is almost nothing like how it sounded at its roots, anymore.  It has even changed in small steps in the past year alone.  Every few months there are new ideas, sounds and themes in the music that gradually take it forward to something else.  Anyone who has dropped out of the scene for the past few years obviously would not realize this.

>>>It didn't start in Goa.  It started in the urban sprawls of Europe and the West coast and the best of it was to be found in the mid to late nineties -
>> agreed.  sequenci used to play it in megatripolis in ’94.  wrong about the west coast tho. which mostly couldn’t stand it at that time.  and wrong about goa which did play a big role innit all.
You are correct, Goa did play a major part in the development of psytrance.  It's like the argument of where punk rock started.  Did it start in NYC or London?  Whatever you believe you surely *must* acknowledge the pre-punk bands that congregated in and around the club CBGB's in NYC in the early to mid 70s that gave birth to the punk scene.  Think of Goa as the CBGB's of psytrance.

>after 2000 it had definitely started to smell funny
>> i.e. it turned into hard trance to please the ruling djs of the time and the huge majority who wanted to dance like robots.
So at this point your reader contradicts himself.  Earlier he says "It hasn't really changed for almost a decade" and now, "after 2000 it had definitely started to smell funny".  So which is it, did it change (so much that it "smelled funny") or did it not change?

Looking forward to the article in DJmag!

Just wanted to let you know that there is hope even in countries where psy-trance isn't so popular anymore... Here in Belgium, the Flemish like it a lot, but the Francophones hardly listen to it anymore.  But the hippy lifestyle prevails!  Instead a lot of people with Goa-type values (respect for nature, thinking outside the box, sustainable living, peace, shamanic herbs, etc...) are listening to reggae or ragga...
There's no-one writing a newsletter quite like yours!”

how to end terrorism at a single stroke
// PLEASE CIRCULATE TO ALL CONCERNED PLANETARY CITIZENS //

an apology & solution offered to all arabs to end defensive jihad terrorism
by a citizen of the west

WE WHO CALL FOR PEACE MUST OFFER MORE THAN JUST THE HOPE THAT THE PROBLEM WILL GO AWAY.  PEACE IS A RESULT, NOT A SOLUTION!  IT IS THE RESULT OF ACTIONS TAKEN TO RESOLVE A PROBLEM.

TO END DEFENSIVE JIHAD TERRORISM WE MUST IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM, THEN DEAL WITH THE CAUSES.

THE PROBLEM/PEACE SOLUTION
1. except where we are able to admit our own far far worse & far far longer term terrorism, we must stop seeing it purely as terrorism.
”The killers are those who kill - and that includes our pilots as well as their bombers. We don't want to kill civilians, but we know that our wars will do that, and death does not come more pleasantly or less painfully because the victims are killed by the supposedly benevolent West rather than the supposedly cruel East. Now we are beginning to pay the price.”  Robert Fisk

2. al-queda leaders have made very clear all along that they are fighting a defensive jihad, the only one permitted by islam - the kind saladin fought successfully against the christian crusades.  indeed, as I read mohamed’s words, such action is obligatory on all muslims when the Faith / Faithful are under attack.  once a defensive jihad has been declared, aggressive attacks on the Enemy become permitted, even required.

(if your response is THEYRE ATTACKING US!, then ask yourself how many arab soldiers are positioned in your country.  and if u say, after all this, that our military were invited in by some MEGA FAT QUISLING SHEIKH, then I say u r a baboon :))  such ignorance is a geometrically accelerating danger to me and to all people on this planet.

3. we ALREADY KNOW against what those thousands of terrorists and hundreds of thousands of supporters are defending. and their demands are eminently reasonable:

A.  REMOVAL OF ALL FOREIGN TROOPS FROM ARAB LANDS (except UN)

B.  IMPOSITION OF A UN AGREED PEACE SETTLEMENT AROUND ISRAEL’S BORDERS. (militarily if necessarily, and for as long as required -  like yugoslavia).

these are an absolute minimum, are eminently reasonable, would already stop the massive spread of terrorism in its tracks, and would save hundreds (possibly hundreds of thousands?) of western lives over the next decade.  meanwhile the withdrawn personnel and equipment should be put to protecting our own homelands and borders.

C. FINANCIAL COMPENSATION FOR ALL FORCED CONTRACTS AND CRIMES AGAINST THEM, AND A SIMULTANEOUS CANCELLATION OF ALL WORLD DEBT (for the same reasons - and let’s pray the africans and the indians will be more ‘understanding’ than the arabs!)
removing soldiers and settling the israel question only delivers a level playing field, it would not be nearly enough to compensate for all the bullying terrorism we have practised on their civilisation over the centuries and since the discovery of oil.
what’s fundamentally required is not some begrudging inch-by-inch retreat but a Magnificent Public Gesture to show Sincerity and Contrition (far better than having it forced on us at a later date when SOME terrorism continued to develop).  the establishing of a fair “market price” for oil would be an excellent step in this general direction - say double what we’ve allowed so far?

the above actions (or UN promises to implement) would, at a single stroke or in several steps,
i]  cut off the ‘religious’ base of the jihad
ii] answer the political grievances
iii] resolve the economic crimes.
they would thus drain the massively spawning community of fanatics of public support, the planet would be perceived by all its inhabitants to be on a proper and fair evolutionary path at last, the terrorism problem would begin to wither on the vine, and surprisingly quickly the present problem would be looked back on as having been little more than a learning curve on humanity’s progress towards globality.

obviously none of this can begin to happen till the dinosaurs have finally been shrugged onto the Fossil Record, with the name George Bush consigned to History as the planet’s Greatest Bogyman & Schmuck.  sounds about right to me :)
