HAITI  IT WAS VENEZUELA II
There was no resignation.
Jean-Bertrand
Aristide remains the elected president of Haiti.
Gerard
Latortue is an illegitimate ruler with no claim to the throne he occupies.  In fact, he sounds more and more like Venezuela Dictator-for-a-Day Pedro Carmona, who temporarily claimed the throne of Venezuela, when the legitimate President Hugo Chavez had been kidnapped, in 2002.
This tyrant and his tyranny will not stand. MUST NOT STAND!

South African president Thabo Mbeki tried to get an arms and supplies air shipment to Aristide in the final hours before he was toppled, kidnapped and flown to Africa.
The shipment contained "
150 R-1 rifles, 5,000 bullets, 200 smoke grenades and 200 bullet-proof vests" - given the relatively small numbers involved in the coup, that could have made a huge difference.
Mr Patterson (Jamaican PM) confirmed that the SAAF Boeing 707 that left South Africa on FEB 29 landed in Jamaica the same day.  But the South African military plane never reached Haiti because of the resignation and departure of Mr Aristide.
Is the plane still in Jamaica? Or at least its contents?

With US Marines stationed in Port-au-Prince, military action is unlikely to get anywhere, but if world opinion turns and the US is forced to withdraw... well, one more bad heir day for the Dinosaurs.
WE CAN DO IT!!!

far from ded :)
OK, I hate to think this my dahling Frase, but The Ultimate Tragedy of my life - or its Greatest Strength? almost sounded to me like.... like part of an epitaph, forgive me here. It sounded to me so sad. Your whole article sounded like it came from deep within the bowels of a very deep tucked away time in your life.
Also when your mom told you this...."
Fraser, you didn't make yourself intelligent. And, Fraser, you didn't make yourself handsome."you hadn't yet found your way or niche in life and I'm sure that before she passed on she had to have been very proud of you. Frase honey, you ARE VERY INTELLIGENT! And by handsome what did she mean? Did she just mean that you looked like a hippy bum, addicted to the weed, or did she mean that you were just plain UGLY? In parts it sounds to me like you wished that you could have lived up to mom's expectations, but now you are. Maybe going away to Malta inspired you to go deep, deep into the tunnels of your mind and you took such a deep look at yourself that this came out sounding to me like a remorseful regret of life not yet done with. Honey, ya may be old but yer far from dead. You're so right.... you got a hell of a lot of people to keep helping out here so keep doing what you do best. I hope that some of the people out here appreciate what you are trying to do for them; Americans included! Now do one thing more and bring back that SEXY JOHNNY DEPP to the UP ...ohhh johnny

tony blair 100% right!
after madrid we surely can no longer “continue to sit back hoping the problem will go away”.
it will not go away!
we could easily make it worse and already have.  this is not the time to follow hot-headed right-wingers who have had their chance and failed abominably.  as we from the “LET’S AVA FUTURE PARTY!” have said all along, it CAN only get worse until we cut it off radically from its roots, its causes

IF WE FAIL TO DO THAT NOW, if instead we follow blush and blur’s monocultural ‘plan’ further and “continue to charge forwards hoping we can destroy the problem,” it will more and more resemble a self-replicating negative fractal
(for the Dinos’ Last Stand, in order to prevent our natural acceleration towards the New Strange Attractor beckoning us from our Future, has tipped the previously ‘normal’ stability towards a degenerating fractal into the Past) until we end up with an unwinnable Clash of Civilisations

"Wars such as those which have occurred in Iraq only allow hatred, violence and terror to proliferate."
Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero of Spain.

as we, the sane majority, always predicted, terrorism is already settling in as a daily part of our lives.
does ANYBODY but a few fundamentalist nuts on both sides want things to devolve any further in the present direction!?

ROOTS OF DEFENSIVE JIHAD TERRORISM (DJT)
the roots of terrorism ARE the causes of defensive jihad
so, what are its roots?  all reasonable, sane (and INFORMED!) people know perfectly well that the problem did not begin on 9/11.  IT SURFACED INTO THE MASS AMERICAN CONSCIOUSNESS ON THAT DATE.  as its perpetrators intended it to do.
(9/11 worked, no question about that, it disrupted  americans’ slumber forever, a slumber in which the rest of the planet was looted and ransacked while they were kept at home FAT and personally prosperous.
during the Zippy Pronoia Tour To U.S. in the early ‘90s, my strident message that
‘Our Society Is Sick And Rave Might Be The Very Last Chance To Evolve As A Culture Before The Terrible Karma That Otherwise Lies Ahead’  was given a very hard time, even by critics from the alternative culture.  americans really were prepared to more or less ignore their rulers abusing the planet as long as their own culture was FAT.  ‘freedom’ had made them lazy.  “chill out, frase” they used to say.  thank goddess this is no longer happening.
BUT 9/11 only half worked.  AMERICANS HAVE BEEN FOOLED AGAIN AS TO THE CAUSES OF 9/11!   while every informed and thinking citizen of our planet now begins to grok that there’s a deep malaise at the heart of the West, americans and a few mental quislings elsewhere have allowed themselves to be convinced that there was NO REASON for it, beyond madness, loony toons, fundamentalism and envy, and that it’s THAT which must be fought against.
indeed americans are still so self-centred that they always assume that all causes emanate from america, hence the movement to prove that americans did it to americans!  I am pretty convinced that the bush gang is helping to spread these rumours as it distracts people from the truth.  look, gringo, u gotta face
UP! to it, people on this planet have reasons for hating the very breath you breathe, and thousands would be PROUD to take one of you with them into oblivion  read on.)

“Did it really begin on 11 September 2001?  No, it began long before.  And no amount of weasel words, no amount of church warden sincerity can mask the degree to which we have been taken by our leaders into this insane conflict.”  Robert Fisk.

but tony blair is right about another thing
the alternative, peace movement cannot simply call for less violence without SERIOUSLY addressing the REAL PROBLEMS which have to be solved.  you cannot lower your guard until you have stilled the unrest.  WE MIGHT EVEN NEED MORE VIOLENCE just to protect ourselves in the meantime from the fury hatred and despair we have called down upon ourselves!  yet, apart from the Pals situation, I do not hear anyone discussing the Problem/Solution.

here’s the simple Big Truth about the arab situation.  for many many years b4 9/11, perhaps as far back as the
Christian Crusades & Territories, but at least since the discovery of oil in the Middle East, the West has been dominating and screwing the arab and indeed the whole world in such a disgustingly inhuman manner that Future Planet Society will look back on this era in its history with squirming shame.  (“mummy daddy, why could americans get obese while all those children were dying every day?”)  I do not only mean palestine, but the whole tawdry, bullying, scruple-free, buck-passing, greed-driven, forked tongue, conspiratorial, murderous, military-commercial exploitation of the one national resource these mostly desert people possessed.

(by most accounts, over half the arab oil is gone and the average arab has gained a transistor radio.  we lucky few have built our whole oil-based boom upon it.)

now you may assume or even say, as many do, thinking it’s all just fine
(UNTIL NOW!), that “it’s not that bad,” and “it’s not that unusual”, for “haven’t people always treated others that way?” [read: hasn’t the West, at least since the Greeks, and on a mass level since the christians, always treated the planet’s other cultures in exactly this manner?!]

yes, but that is to leave aside all morality.  you’re not bothered about that?  well, you’re like most citizens were, UNTIL DJT (defensive jihad terrorism) made this statement:  NOBODY IS NEUTRAL.  everyone benefits so everyone will suffer.

but that sounds much too brutal for me.  it’s the Final Resort  and we already have a toenail into its arena.  people WILL be made to change anyway, by suffering if necessary, but I see an
ecological morality at work which can help each of us to FEEL our way to and begin to Face UP! to the Truth of the Problem/Solution.  for, you see, all the other cultures and people we trashed and abused were small, easy to defeat and keep defeated, easily ignored, and their resentment of their treatment by the west is buried so deep deep down that some of them (the minority who have done well) don’t even know it’s there.  but it is.  and if our folly in not seeing reality ever allows the time to come when they can jump on the statue of the fallen Stupid White Man they surely will.  u will be shocked.  you are already being shocked to your marrow.

what I’m saying here is that, if order and social security continue to disintegrate in the current direction, the degeneration will be further increased by unleashing the courage (or hopelessness) in all the helpless ‘we’ have left behind  the
THIN POOR of every creed and colour, hidden in every crack of our Society.

LOOKING AHEAD LIKE THIS, BEFORE LEAPING is exactly what we need to do now.  soon we shall have no choice in the matter but, while we do, let us face UP! to the fact that, despite our generations of ‘getting away with it,’ we have now, with the arabs, and their damn unifying islam which ruptures our Dino divide & rule routines, finally encountered a culture that’s as large as our own, as intelligent, as determined (even obsessive), and certainly quite as proud and rich in cultural history (I would judge richer).  it’s also based around an equally monotheistic religion which is younger, more virile and more extreme, and they have the oil which our entire economy/’civilisation’ desperately needs.  they are also hopelessly intermingled with us around the globe.  each time this fight back appears to succeed, as I implied above, it will enthuse and edutain other individuals, groups and resistance movements around the world to rise up against western capitalist hegemony :)

was madrid inevitable?!  to allow or force us to evolve as a species?

future evolutionary moralists may conclude that, to prevent the strongest most ruthless from simply dominating the emerging & inevitable
Global Village, and then continuing to do so forever, across space even!, the arab/islam resistance was a required device to bring homo saps to hir ethical senses.  for how can we have a truly planetary society if one nation or group of nations insists on continuing to dominate (even claiming to itself the ‘natural’ right to bug EVERYBODY ELSE, including the head of our U.N.?)

are we going to spread across space as an
Evil Empire with slaves and helots back home?!  i actually find that unimaginable!

so we, particularly in the alternative/peace community, cannot, in mr blair's words, continue to call for peace hoping the problem will just go away.
peace is a result, not a solution!

the Problem/Solution
1.  we must stop seeing it purely as terrorism (except where we are able to admit our own far far worse ‘terrorism’).
“The killers are those who kill - and that includes our pilots as well as their bombers. We don't want to kill civilians, but we know that our wars will do that, and death does not come more pleasantly, less painfully, because the victims are killed by the supposedly benevolent West rather than the supposedly cruel East.  Now we are beginning to pay the price.”  Robert Fisk
2.  as al-queda leaders have said very clearly all along, they see themselves as fighting a defensive jihad, which is the only one permitted by the koran.  indeed, as I read mohamed’s words, it is obligatory on muslims when the Faith or the Faithful are under attack.  once defensive jihad is declared, aggressive attacks on the threat become permitted, even required.  (if your response is THEY’RE ATTACKING US!, then ask yourself how many arab soldiers are positioned in your country.  and if u say, after all this, that our soldiers were invited in by some MEGA FAT SHEIKH then I say u r a baboon :))
3.  we KNOW what those hundreds of terrorists and thousands of supporters are defending against.  they want, in this order:
REMOVAL OF ALL FOREIGN TROOPS FROM ARAB LANDS. (seems eminently REASONABLE to me, tho I can see that, with all our imposed and corrupt quislings, it will be complex )  Then, I suggest, the UN should impose (militarily and for as long as required) a Peace Settlement around Israel’s borders.  This is an absolute minimum, but would already massively slow down the spread of terrorism and save hundreds of western lives over the next year or two  while the withdrawn soldiers could be put to protecting our own homelands and borders etc.
4.  partly because I sense this would not be nearly enough to compensate for all the terrorism we have practised on their civilisation, and because I judge that what is required is not some begrudging inch-by-inch retreat but a
Magnificent Gesture to show Sincerity, Atmosphere Change, rather than having it forced on us at a later date when SOME terrorism continued to develop, the West should pay Financial Restitution for all the forced contracts into which we made them enter.  a fair price for oil would be an excellent step too.

these actions (even just promises to implement by the UN) would, at a single stroke, or in several steps, cut the few fanatics off from public support, the problem would gradually die out, the planet would be perceived by all its inhabitants to be on a proper evolutionary path again, and surprisingly soon the present problem would be looked back on as having been a learning curve - with bush ultimately being written into History as it’s Greatest Schmuck.   sounds about right to me :)

ROOTS OF DEFENSIVE JIHAD TERRORISM
Terrorists hate our interference, not our lifestyle
Following the train bombings in Madrid, Labour politicians have been telling us that "
terrorists hate democracy and our way of life".  However, the evidence I find to support this view relates only to a particularly bad habit of certain Western nations.

Our bad habit manifests itself in laying to waste another sovereign country's essential infrastructure, seizing its key resources, followed by the arrival of banks, businesses, speculators, soft drinks, cigarettes, fast food chains, illegal drugs and bland satellite TV.  At its most shameful (US support of the
Contras in Nicaragua), the habit works to undermine democratically elected governments on the basis that they refuse to buy into the Western democratic vision of private ownership and the profit motive.

Leaders of western democracies won't accept that the hateful cancer which struck in Madrid last week
may be the result of their own bad behaviour.  In reality, what the terrorists seem to want most of all is for that bad behaviour to change.

Like heavy smokers, leaders of Western democracies seem unable to connect the cancer with the decades of self-indulgence and abuse which brought it on.  We urgently need to establish the aspects of our behaviour which make terrorists want to kill us.  It has nothing to do with our preference for shopping at Marks & Spencer, working a 40 hour week and voting every four years.

Our foreign policy might be a good place to start.

THE ASSAULT ON THE PLANET
THE RICH GETS FATTER AS THE POOR GETS THINNER

People seldom stop and think about the hidden causes for such happenings.  The greed and desire to dominate others has led to great disasters on this planet during the last century and are continuing with greater ferocity and deadlier weapons.  Today, the FAT RICH from the civilised societies are waging a war on the THIN POOR to increase misery and poverty for their own survival under the guise of a war on terror.

·       Globalisation is exploiting the notion of Free Trade to inflict more poverty upon their own peoples.

·       President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned in the 1950s against the growing power of the Military-Industrial Complex

·       The Wars in Vietnam divested South East Asia, not only by killing and destroying these countries but by enabling the arms manufacturers to hone their skills for killing on a massive scale, the likes of which mankind had not seen before.

·       Since Reagan's time the Military Industrial Complex, though it was able to bring down the Evil Empire of Communism with the help of the Mujahedin of Afghanistan, yet the flames of war engulfed the entire Middle East, killing more than a million Iranians, and Iraqis, and today the largest number of refugees in the world are Muslims.

·       The Gulf War of 1991alone cost Arabs more than $900 billion, plus the enormous human toll, and destruction of their infrastructures and resources.

·       In Afghanistan alone there are more than 100,000 widows who lost their bread earners, and who have no one to turn to except to go begging for their survival.  Today we have millions of foreign troops based in almost all Muslim and Non-Muslim countries to bring about the New World Disorder.

The FILTHY FAT RICH who have very little sensitivity, and only the desire to amass more wealth, are doing so by collaborating with the Military-Industrial complex.

Could you ever imagine that the so-called best soldiers in the world could bury several thousand Iraqi soldiers alive by pushing sand over them while they were sitting in the trenches?!  This is because the value of a human has been degraded to worse than an animal by the conscience-less inventors of the term "Collateral Damage

Here is how they divided the pie of the (ever increasing) Defence Budget in year 2000.

Defence Contractor      Pentagon Award  Lobbying Expenses       Campaign Contributions
Lockheed Martin $15 billion     $4.16 million           $2,163,184 (D-39%, R-60%)
The Boeing Company      $12 billion     $8.02 million           $344,334   (D-40%, R-60%)
Raytheon Company        $6.3 billion    $1.8 million            $891,053   (D-37%, R-62%)
General Dynamic Corp  $4.1 billion      $4.37 million           $1,187,205 (D-40%, R-60%)
Northrop Grumman Corp  $3.1 billion     $5.03 million           $602,930    (D-42%, R-57%)
United Tech Corp        $2.1 billion    $4.66 million           $657,220    (D-48%, R-52%)
TRW Incorporated        $2.0 billion    $1.09 million           $496,819    (D-21%, R-79%)
General Electric Co     $1.6 billion    $7.93 million           $304,750    (D-42%, R-58%)

Note: It was announced today that Halliburton earned $3.6 Billion in 2003 for services provided in Iraq, and was the top company given tasks without calling open bids, or by involving International partners.

The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists had two significant issues related to
(1)     the world illicit trade in small arms and
(2)     the growing refugee problem in the world.

Now consider the impact of chemical defoliants and anti-personnel mines.  Today, the South-Asian countries where Agent Orange was used have people suffering from cancer and other horrible diseases including our own soldiers, and what an enormous cost of healthcare, and lack of productivity leading to poverty.  The largest number of mines are in Afghanistan and have killed and maimed thousands already.

Last but not least, during Gulf War alone the debris of Depleted Uranium left in the war theatre amounted to more than 40 tonnes, which has already killed several thousand people, and will continue to kill and deform innocent people for billions of years.  Use of DU weapons is equivalent to using thousands of Dirty bombs (a name invented to scare the public) and must be banned altogether with anti-personnel mines and laser weapons which have caused permanent blindness in many people.

ROOTS OF DEFENSIVE JIHAD TERRORISM

Hi Fraser,
as I’ve watched this news unfold since the March 11th horror in Madrid.. felt the complete revulsion, pain and sorrow that a compassionate person knows... felt the twinge of hope as the new government of Spain arises to tell the rest of us the TRUTH of what we already know about the Iraq war...
that it is a disaster.... that it is an outrage, that it will have longer term political implications etc...

But listen carefully to the views being entwined into the news reporting...
already the dinosaur analysis is trying to suggest that the Spanish election result is illegitimate.. tainted, indeed even evil because it was 'caused' by the terrorists... that it is somehow negatively influenced by terrorism, at best an aberration by an unsophisticated young democracy, at worst a frightened Spanish electorate capitulating to the terrorists and blah....
the truth is being warped.. and lost

They’re claiming Spanish voters were intimidated into ousting the PP.. already casting the Socialists as impostors... and of course that wonderful (in my eyes) result is such a huge threat to the Dinosaur world view...  a one-eyed, dim view, at that, which is blind to the fact of a massive voter turnout, and which did not see the reality of the 11 million Spaniards in rain soaked streets protesting against terrorism for days and nights after the bombs... which also ignores that
90% of Spanish did not support the Iraq war in the first place!
which talks down the reality and trumps up the lie....
watch them constructing this delusion in front of us now... this lie, that by the act of ousting Aznazi and wanting troops out of Eye-rack, the new government is undermining the coalition... and so must be aiding terrorism.

Now watch the next step as USUK Worldfuck.Inc works to vilify and destroy the new democratically elected government in Spain (representing the true feelings and beliefs of the people) while insulting, patronising and disenfranchising the Spanish people.
Witness this prediction come true over the coming weeks... that new Spanish government will be brought down (haiti style? chaves style?) by those great champions of democracy in the Shitehouse.. I can already hear them plotting that regime change, and how they’re going to do it... BOGEYMAN BOGEYMAN LIE AFTER LIE!

The war on terror and the war of terror is being conducted on both sides by slightly different breeds of Terrorsorearse Wrecks which are, as a species, manifest users of weapons, explosives and death as a means to intimidate the meek into submission.
Neither care about real people, only about principles or a god of some kind, or are simply blind with revenge or power.  All are plain fookin ignorant.
They both will draw blood, especially the blood of bystanders and innocents rather than each other’s... their war, our blood, that’s the terrorist and the militarist.. stupid and in darkness they lumber on their fixed obsessive paths onto the Fossil Record.. trampling on and blowing people up... we share the same planet and lifetime as these creatures but they do not give a toss so long as they can have their glory.  Whichever side they are on, they are wrong.

The Korantwisters and The Bushtians have essentially the same defects.. the same conviction that they are right and they are righteous.. and that we, the common people, are simply pawns in their crappy game... but on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the voice of the Spanish people identified what is wrong... shame on the terrorists, shame on the inhuman folly of politicians, and shame on all of us electorate.. until now maybe :)

ROOTS OF DEFENSIVE JIHAD TERRORISM
MUST-SEE VIDEO ON WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT
British journalist John Pilger has often stated that the United States is the biggest terrorist organisation in the world.  If you have any doubts about this, if you want to understand what will be happening over the next year, you must understand what Pilger is saying, and you owe it to your conscience to watch this critical 13 minute video interview….

Open Letter To The Terrorists Of 9/11
We are going to address this menace of terrorism with the one thing THAT YOU, Mr. Terrorist, CANNOT REFUSE.
We have learned from our forefathers and understand why they constructed such a great CONSTITUTION for OUR United States.
Yes, Mr. Terrorist, we are going to address this erroneous concept of terrorism with enough HONESTY to question our own responsibility as NATIONS, as individuals & as a GLOBAL FAMILY for this rise in terrorism.  Mr. Terrorist, we will listen to YOUR perspective as to why these dastardly deeds were done.
We may not have had TOWN MEETINGS after September 11, AND God knows we SURELY needed them then  BUT WE WILL DEFINITELY HAVE THEM NOW!
Step forth, Mr. Terrorist, as OUR United States stepped forth in the past & TOOK responsibility for it's DEEDS OF CREATING POVERTY in Cuba as punishment upon the Cuban people, OR for OUR government openly admitting to bringing down the concept of Communism in Russia  by tricking their political leaders into an arms race (Ronald Reagan’s own words) that they could not win! -- causing Russia to dissolve in bankruptcy and thus causing all the civil unrest there.
Mr. Terrorist, speak your peace.  WE WILL LISTEN!!! and SO WILL OUR LEADERS!!!! OR THEY WILL BE VOTED OUT OF OFFICE.  We will seek the DIPLOMATS of middle & upper CORPORATE MANAGEMENT & DRAFT THEM into PUBLIC SERVICE...

Remember Madrid
It is now time to Re..Member.  Remember that once in 1967 for a short while HUMANS could unite with LOVE and defeat their oppressors completely.
That "time" has come again with the wordless shock of the Madrid Bombings.
This date
(11/3/04) will serve to re..mind HUMANS that the UNHUMAN can be defeated by Humans united in the unstoppable power of LOVE.  Not the low fake turn the other cheek hustle that has been used so long to weaken us, but the UNSTOPPABLE POWER OF A PEOPLE UNITED IN THE LOVE OF EACH OTHER.  Then and only then will the UNHUMAN BEINGFIENDS be easily run back into the filth of the holes from which they came.  Pure love of each other is a power which CAN NOT be defeated.
THINK of just one child torn to pieces by the act of fiends at Madrid.  Not movie fiends, but real UNHUMAN fiends loose upon our beautiful planet.  Now THINK of another child. Happy, giggling, playing, laughing, growing.  Now use your will and unite together with the
POWER of HUMAN LOVE.  When you do this the UNHUMAN FIENDS will be driven out of the realm of human consciousness by all the cleverness HUMANS have used since we appeared on EARTH.
Use your
WILL.  Bring the power of HUMAN LOVE FOR EACH OTHER INTO YOUR HANDS.

LAFF OR CRY AS ROBOT RACE SUFFERS QUICK, IGNOBLE END
A robot race across the Mojave Desert turned into a parade of frustration Saturday, as 15 driverless vehicles spun their wheels, flipped over, and encountered rocks and ruts that befuddled sensors and baffled programming.
The Grand Challenge event was supposed to be a 10-hour sprint across the desert, with a Pentagon $1 million prize for the first driverless vehicle to transit 142 miles of sand and rock from Barstow (San Bernardino County) to Primm, Nevada.
But, after as pre-dawn start, at 11am Anthony Tether, director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, took the stage at a casino near the supposed finish line to announce:
"The Grand Challenge ended about 10 minutes ago when the last 'bot went out.''
Despite the race's somewhat comic end Tether said the competition had advanced DARPA's aim of spurring the development of driverless combat vehicles capable of fighting desert wars without putting soldiers in harm's way.
Hence our title:  LAFF OR CRY :)
"It exceeded our expectation by the amount of people who showed up, and by the types of people who showed up,'' said Tether, adding that the agency would probably stage a new challenge after the volunteers have time "to get their batteries recharged.''

GO, HUMMER, GO!
The race began optimistically enough, when the "smart" red Hummer entered by a team of Carnegie Mellon University robotics experts surged forward at 6:30 a.m. to the cheers of several hundred onlookers who’d braved the early morning chill at the starting line.  It was the race's odds-on favourite,
Each robotic vehicle was trailed by DARPA officials armed with wireless controls capable of disabling any robot that drifted off course or posed a danger to human or animal life.
>> the opposite would be the case once the weapons had been developed, a Pentagon official didn’t need to say.

Although several entries successfully started the course, apprehension rippled through the crowd at Barstow when rumours spread around 9 a.m. that the Hummer had developed engine trouble and possibly caught fire.  Though the engine rumour proved wrong, DARPA officials said a front tire on the vehicle did catch fire when the Hummer's left wheels went off the side of a road 7.4 miles into the course and spun helplessly over a cliff until nearby safety monitors pulled the robot's plug and extinguished the flames. The CMU Hummer went the farthest of any of the entrants.

Bruce Hall, who helped his brother, Dave, create
Team DAD, said DARPA officials told them their vehicle's front tires got stuck on rocks 6 miles into the race, in a portion of the course where they'd slowed the robot down to a 5 mph crawl.  He said the monitors watched Team DAD kick up dust for a couple of hours before pronouncing it stuck and hitting the stop button.  Then, Hall said, they flipped the switch that returned Team DAD to human control, gunned the accelerator once, and the truck hopped back onto the track.

"All it needed was a little gas,'' said Hall who, together with his brother, poured $40,000 and umpteen hours of work into their effort.

The driverless dirt bike
Ghostrider, designed by UC Berkeley graduate student Anthony Levandowski, 23, had become the darling of this impromptu robot community, but when Levandowski arrived at the Barstow starting point, he discovered the $50 electric motor he'd rigged to crank the handlebar clutch had burned out, and he didn't have a spare.  He withdrew Ghostrider from the official competition, and instead offered to launch the two-wheeler via a wire-guided remote control - only to forget to make sure the system he designed to stabilise the two-wheeler was turned on prior to launch.
"It's such a stupid mistake after a year and a half of hard engineering,'' he said.  He’d put roughly $100,000 of his own money into the project.  Undeterred, he said he'd be back next year "on two wheels, and with a check list.''

DARPA sponsored the Grand Challenge because a decade of government-funded contracts with defence firms has failed to produce breakthroughs.  The agency hoped the prize and prestige of the challenge would entice academic and garage inventors to come up with new ideas.  Tether said DARPA spent about $13 million to sponsor the event, and got more than its money's worth in promising new approaches.
David Hall, a businessman whose robotic pickup truck,
Team DAD, placed third, said he thinks the driverless auto of today is where the chess-playing computer was a decade ago.  "How you drive a car is all programmable. It's not a creative process. You don't have time to think. Driving is a well-defined set of rules you learn. That, we can program.''

While Saturday's results may make the race seem like a lark, Col. Jose Negron, the DARPA official who cooked up the idea, reminded reporters at a predawn briefing that the Pentagon is serious about making one-third of all military transport vehicles driverless by 2015.
"The desert environment is where the future battlefields of the U.S. will be,'' he said.
>> u got that?  u laffin or cryin’?

“Most Iraqis feel life is better than a year ago?”
OFFICIAL MISINFORMATION
DID IT FOOL YOU?
In the UK at least, a load of publicity has been given this week to a dubious poll into the attitudes of `the Iraqi people.`
>> always ask:  who?  what is their motive?  who is paying them?

WHO CONDUCTED THIS POLL?  Oxford Research International.  Have you ever heard of them? !  How about you Oxford readers?!

Not one newspaper made reference to the gigantic problems of conducting a poll in Iraq, where Foreign Secretary Jack Straw recently warned anti-Blair MPs they `would be killed` if they went round without official protection.
Anyone like to argue that the pollsters concentrated on the pro-occupation areas of Iraq.

Nor does any information seem to be available as to which `
other news organisations` helped to fund the survey.  OSR’s publicly listed phone number was not answering when some activists tried to contact them on Tuesday.

Nor did a single official public medium make any reference to
the sanctions regime which made life hell for Iraqis. killing hundreds of thousands of them.   Instead, the implication left was that, since Iraqi respondents found life was better now, they must support the occupation!

Even the infamous BBC Today programme, describing David Loyn as a `world affairs correspondent` when he sounded more like a Number 10 press officer, reported that Iraqis did not want coalition troops to leave immediately.  There is zero evidence on the BBC website that this question was even asked.

In stark contrast to what Loyn told millions of listeners, the little visited web site reported that, by 51% / 40%, Iraqis opposed the presence of coalition troops in Iraq.  Only 13% (and 15% support Kurdish parties) strongly supported their presence.

The poll’s key finding, ignored in most reports
40+% of Iraqis have `no trust at all` in the US/UK coalition.
8% have `
a great deal of trust`.
By massive margins Iraqis trust their religious leaders, and do not trust the quisling Iraqi Governing Council described routinely by the BBC as `
The Iraqi Authorities`.

WMDS BEING PLANTED IN IRAQ?
Teheran News reports that US/UK forces are secretly importing weapons of mass destruction of 1980's origin from Eastern Europe in a secret operation in Southern Iraq, to be planted and `found` at a convenient time.
Their website is currently giving an error message:
www.netinon.com
If WMDs are now `found,` and turn out to be of 1980s East European origin. there’s a very strong likelihood they’ve been planted because a much more likely source would, of course, be the US or West Germany.

“The Day After Tomorrow”
AN ECO-ARMAGEDDON DISASTER MOVIE
MADE BY THE BIG BEAST ITSELF
COULD LOSE BUSH GANG THE ELECTION
MAY 28          Worldwide release of ‘The Day After Tomorrow’.

A dullish candidate (Gore? Kerry?) outflanked by his opponent's serious money, attacked for his liberal leanings, etc, is swept to an unpredictable victory thanks to a blockbuster movie that focuses on the effects of big business and the agro-industrial complex.
Audiences throw their popcorn aside, pick up their ballot papers and realise that they too can and MUST make a difference.

Only In America?
The studio behind the movie? 20th Century Fox, owned by Rupert Murdoch.
The director: Roland Emmerich; no bleeding heart Democrat but the brawn behind Independence Day.
Just such an alliance of commerce, populist entertainment and feel-good concern could tear the presidency from the corporate bankers who run the present administration!

The first trailers for the film were released on the internet last week.  Employing slick computer generated special effects and faux newscast verité, tidal waves sweep across cities and snow piles halfway up the towers of Manhattan as disjointed voices articulate the chaos around them:
"What you are seeing is happening now," says a breathless newsreader.
"Look over behind me," shouts a TV reporter, "that's a tornado, yes, a twister."
The film cuts to a volcano erupting next to the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles.  A huge flock of birds flies across the sky, a mass of people is seen crossing the Rio Grande between Mexico and the United States.

Filmed with a $100m+ budget, the film has another difference from regular Hollywood blockbusters: it claims to have a conscience.
>> cos we, that’s all of us, have become so many that there’s money innit, see?

"At some point during the filming we looked around at all the lights, generators and trucks, and we realised the very process of making this picture was contributing to the problem of global warming," the director and producers say in a statement on the film's official website.  "We couldn't avoid putting CO2 into the atmosphere during the shoot, but we discovered we could do something to make up for it; we could make the film carbon-neutral."  By planting trees they will take out the CO2 the production put in.
>> bet they didn’t use recycled paper though :) no actor used anti-perspirants?  hmm.

Better, the film's website includes a lengthy list of internet links to organisations that have researched the effects of global warming.  During filming last year, Emmerich described the film as "a popcorn movie that's actually a little subversive".
>> It could be a helluva lot more subversive today!

Unrest
The Pentagon, of course, released a study last month suggesting that one outcome of global warming could be the rise of mass civil unrest.  In one scenario, drought, famine and rioting erupt across the world, spurred on by climate change.  As countries face dwindling food supplies and scarce natural resources, conflict becomes the norm.
"Disruption and conflict will be endemic features of life," says the Pentagon study. "Once again, warfare would define human life."

"John Kerry is mentioning clean air and water at every opportunity. It's going to be on the first tier of issues. Our job is to make clear how anti-environment the government has been"
said Luke Breit, chairman of the Democrat's environmental caucus in California.

Too Good to be True?  Quite possibly :(
Before we all start marching, The Day After Tomorrow's advance publicity suggests a typical Hollywood mix of fact, fantasy and hype: fake weather reports and testimonies from fans about where they’d like to be the day the world dies are mixed with earnest exhortations to help avert global warming.  People in the environmental leadership are holding their breath that the science is treated seriously.

Nor is this website comment reassuring:  "In Independence Day Emmerich brought you the near destruction of the earth by aliens.  Now the enemy is an even more devastating force: nature itself."
>> I coulda sworn homo saps had something to do with it!

Still, the Bush Gang have so much wrong shit out there that potential tributaries to their destruction will continue to open such as this.  One US environmental pressure group, for example, has already enlisted the help of one of the film's stars, Jake Gyllenhaal, to help promote its agenda while promoting the film.

PEAK OIL 1.
"The world's leading petroleum geologists agree that more than 95% of all recoverable oil has now been found.  We therefore know, within a reasonable degree of certainty, the total amount of oil available to us. As of this statement, we have consumed approximately half of the recoverable oil, and we continue to consume about 75 million barrels per day.  Since 1981 we have consumed oil faster than we have found it, and the gap between our growing consumption and shrinking discovery continues to widen.  Oil is now being consumed four times faster than it is being discovered, and the situation is becoming critical."   Citizens Committee on Oil Peak And Decline (COPAD)
up!

PEAK OIL 2.
No way out but restructuring
Current leaderships of the North will, this decade, learn that no amount of munitions and ordnance can solve or defeat the geological problem of oil depletion.  Some current leaderships of the North already produce 'landmark speeches' about the need to shift to renewable energy some time after 2050.
In fact, even by 2025, per capita oil use will be about 40-50% down on today, and the climate and environment consequences of continued high rates of fossil fuel burning will be impossible to deny.  Sooner and not later, therefore, it will be understood that there are no military solutions to geological problems of fossil energy depletion.
International cooperation, an almost forgotten term from the 1970s and early 1980s when oil prices reached $100/barrel in 2004 dollars, should rapidly be reinstated as the way forward to preparing all persons, both in the North and South, for a future in which at least two-thirds of our current and easily producible supplies of 'conventional' oil and gas will be exhausted by about 2035.

upon receiving the last two UPS, three ideas have emerged.
I am involved in a war that has been raging for ten thousand years and that quickens my blood every day.
I think that war is between Civilisation and Tribalism.
I begin to see it everywhere, unchanging, ever present.
Be it in Caesar’s Diaries or on CNN, the struggle is to have people submit to the abstract, non corporeal State and not to the authority of their Elders, I stand seemingly submitting to abstract, non corporeal Elders and not to the authority of my State.
The fact is I despise the 'Ideal' and the poisonous little plagiarist Plato with his highly profitable ink!  He's a good part of why Palefaces speak with forked tongues.  The oral tradition was sundered and sold out by the literary communication of smudged ideals instead of somatic verities.  Paper is sticky stuff, you can put stuff on it you'll never get off in thousands of years.  Hey, maybe hyperspace is ruled by the oral and not the literary tradition.

We of the Spanish UP! readers segment demand our Editor (Fraser Clark) immediately and unreservedly (with no attempts to blame the West or Bush or Blair which is not to say we support them) CONDEMN the atrocious Madrid bombings which slaughtered and injured at least 1200.
People (very possibly including many UP readers), it is time our editor(and UP readers themselves) fully come out against terrorist atrocities like these (whoever was responsible)
>> absolutely.  am sure I speak for everyone when I say that ALL terrorist atrocities (whether freelance or governmental) are to be condemned utterly.
remember though that every single day many people die in the ‘war’ of conquest done in our names and paid for by us and very very seldom reported, and that it is these which lead to the creation of an ‘other side’.
emotionally overdrawn reactions such as yours, dear geoff, only show how little time u spend suffering for all the daily degradations and death of the ‘original’ victims.  about ONE atrocity, tho common humanity seems to demand it.

and offer our help to track down the murderers... it is not good enough to run to blame Bush or Blair or bring up every perceived wrong by the West... no that is a copout.
>> the Cop Out (as history will look back onnit) is failing to see the West’s brutal and totally hypocritical Conquest of the Planet (freedom bible in one paw and gun in the other).  and the subsequent moral failure to accept (regardless of who’s being killed today) that whatever sets that Conquest back is on humanity’s side.  millions of people will continue to die over the coming years, whatever happens, let’s pray that these inevitable deaths will move humanity forward and not backward. which would only mean PERPETUAL war.
the ends do not justify the bloody means....
>> I’ll state in publicly in haifa square if u go declaim it on the white house lawn.

so Senor Clark we eagerly await your comments on this latest horror .... we know we can count on you to do the right thing... remember UP readers may have died in these bombings... c'mon , Senor, drop your anti-Bush and Blair baggage and help us in this fight against butchery... I urge fellow UP readers to do the same!

THE GREAT ANYONE BUT BUSH DEBATE // FEEDBACK

Jonah Dempcy:
I understand that you want to be rid of Bush, but you will never be rid of the force that determines what Bush or any other leader will do once in office.

>> then give up now, bro. and get out of the hallway if u can't lend a hand :)

Well, how about this? A covert dictatorship will never be protested, but an overt one will be attacked. So the overt dictatorships (like Bush jr's company) are sinking ships, obviously, but the covert ones aren't. So the people who pull the strings of Bush and Kerry remain covert while Bush is attacked and Kerry is lauded as a relief. Out of the frying pan into the fire. As Hegel put it, Thesis + Antithesis = Synthesis. Or, as the Scottish Rite puts it, Ordo Ab Chao. Order out of Chaos.
Jonah Dempcy / Berlin.

>>> George Bush, as horrible a personality as he is, is simply carrying waterfor the corporate oligarchy that rules the US and the world. You can see that John Kerry will be doing the same, except with a 'happy face'. Whoever wrote this is 100% right on.  Bush has been made the scapegoat but he is no different from any other president. Clinton, for example, during the phoney Y2K scare, passed Executive legislation stating that in a time of national emergency/crisis (which the country has been in ever since 9/11) -- the Federal Government (run by the Executive Branch and their hirelings, FEMA) can detain people for any length of time, for any reason, and can suspend habeas corpus, etc. So what's the diff?
>>> we have far more chance of achieving whatever it is we want to achieve under a happy face than a horrible one that's surely too obvious to even mention (tho not for some people I agree :).
This logic does not make sense -- because the face is happy, the intent of the President is different?
>> take it very simply. they have 2 faces. why? and what's the difference? the diff is that they can go fast and hard to their objective or, if they upset too many people, they can go slow and softer. which would u prefer? and, more importantly, when they go slow and soft and even retreat IT'S NOT BECAUSE THEY WANT TO! IT'S BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN FORCED TO.

No, actually he was saying whether or not there is a happy or sad face, the intent of the President is to carry out the agenda of the ultra-Elite. So, actually, what he was saying is that it makes no difference if the face is happy or sad -- you are saying apparently that when the President is a "happy face" that he responds more to the public, and not to the global Elite. I disagree.
>> precisely. john was giving your (fundamentalist?) pov and i was debating it. if the vampire elite were in total control u better believe you and i would be in jail for thot crimes. agreed? so why are we not? because they don't dare to make those kinda moves yet. therefore they are not in total control. they could even be dying on their knees for all we would know about it right? so.... what we do makes a difference. and throwing out the Face of the War President would be a pretty damn good one, no, even just on an iconic level right?

Something like 750,000 Iraqi's died under Clinton, far more than under Bush. btw was Clinton still in office when the new US money was printed? That would show complicity with 9/11. Of course you know the 9/11 money conspiracy right? type in "$20 bill conspiracy" in google and you will see pictures, in sequence from $5 to $100, depicting the WTC crashes. You see these pictures from folding the money into planes. Furthermore it shows the pentagon on the reverse side. Also they are all in sequence, EG: $5 has no fire, $10 has a little fire at top, $20 has a bit of fire, $50 is falling down, $100 is all smoke (no building left) ... and the smoke snakes left to right along the folds, lining up perfectly. There is no way it's unintentional.

The Terminator in 2008, I'm sure of it, they are already changing legislation to allow foreign-born citizens to be President. The SS were the top 5% or less of Nazis and they were an Occult secret society through and through. You needed knowledge of divination, psychic abilities, Satanism, magick, demonology, rune stones, predicting using pendulums etc to be a member of SS. Even the name came from the rune stones, a method of divination used by the Norse. (Tying into the mythological/magical history of the "Aryan" race which is more code symbolism for an Alien race that have been interbreeding with Reptilians since the dawn of civilization. For examples, look at how all the pharaohs of Egypt were white and a lot of them had blonde and red hair. Explain that one, modern science!)

Spot on Fraser, no potential candidate can allow the opposition to pin a 'pacifist wimp' label on him.  Of course we need to combat terrorism, but the way to do it is not by dropping bombs!  That just creates more of them.  I agree, what Kerry is saying in my view is that the USA needs to take a broader view and change people's minds -the shift of target away from Bin Laden says it all.

>>> now that's a fair point.  people need a common enemy to unite against.  but, u c, this time kerry will be it!!!  from the start!  we'll be fighting left of him and he's left of bush and that's got to be good (even if it’s only the width of a condom).  the whole rapidly-becoming-dominant community will be on his ass, while the whole weight of world opinion (don’t forget them) will be on his shoulder too, especially since the bush gang just got the boot
that’s how it can go. momentum, dear boy, momentum :)
Corporate attack?  From whom?  What you need to do is get busy and help drum up the support a Democratic President is going to need to take on the Pentagon, the Arms lobby, the CIA and NSA, the Supreme Court, certain oil companies, and last but not least, Wall Street and the rules  governing corporate America. You sat back and twiddled your thumbs while Clinton was in power - get real - you have to light a fire under ANY politician if you want to get any results.  NO politician is ever going to open a can of worms unless forced to, no matter what they say at the hustings!  Dummy.Thing is, John, you got it all totally wrong.  Just as we blame the politicians of whatever colour for the things they did whilst in power, WE BLAME YOU FOR NOT VOTING OR VOTING FOR SOME HALF-ASSED CANDIDATE AND LETTING THE BUGGERS INTO POWER IN THE FIRST PLACE.  You have a responsibility to the rest of us for your actions, whether you like it or not.  Do the right thing, even if it does not look perfect.  We are all going to have to make some changes and sacrifices if we're going to really take on what tomorrow demands.

john morton:
Just one more question for you on the subject of US politics:  What makes you think that progressives will have any better luck holding Kerry's feet to the fire once he is in office, than they did with Clinton?
>> cos our side will have the momentum?

Clinton bombed Kosovo,
>> which i advisedly supported, tho later info has made me doubt it.  (pre-internet)the Sudan, >> one bombing raid?!

and Iraq,
>> it was bush senr, no?  and clinton continued with the surveillance bomming conditions, no?

promoted Nafta and the WTO,
>> nobody's claiming he's a raving psychedelic.  am saying that there are diff levels and on the political level u should vote for the best choice while not imagining that will necessarily affect other levels.  no?

and signed the draconian "welfare reform" favoured by Republicans, among other disasters.  Yet there was pitiful little media coverage or public support for resisting these events.
>>
that resistance has been growing massively since then AND WAS ALREADY DOING SO WHEN BUSH ARRIVED.  there is now a huge resistance movement which will be active whomever is president.  which one's more likely to crack heads and stop more middleclass joining?

Had the evil Bush not forced his way to power in 2000, we would probably be acquiescing to similar Clintonesque moves by Gore today.  This is not to say that there is no difference between Kerry and Bush, but that there is no progress toward a better (political) world without rousing the public, and public outrage will disappear under another Democrat "happy face".
>> twisted knicker logic here.  we need a really evil pres to rouse the public.  well, we had that now, john.  what's the next step if not getting rid of him in the most embarrassing way possible?  remember that the mass faith in their leadership has been sorely stretched and if their 'champion' falls, well, who knows what might suddenly become possible in their minds?!

We need to hear a voice of truth shouting loudly amid the chatter, and right now a Nader candidacy is our only hope to penetrate the all-powerful corporate media.
>> i repeat that i am not saying nader shouldn't run.  maybe that he should resign and 'deliver' his votes to kerry on the day b4 the election?  but maybe nader's ego comes in at that point?

BTW, thanks for another interesting issue.
>> thanks john :)  some readers have really taken a crack at you in this UP! - thanks for helping me get this debate off the ground. which is why am totally in agreement with your slogan:-
* democracy is a journey, not a destination *

Why are you surprised that I think people know that a vote for Nader is a vote for Bush.   Do you think that only the elite can figure that one out?   Every American who voted in 2000 knows that.  The only ones who will vote Nader this time are those who would otherwise give up.  So any votes Nader will get will not be taken from Kerry.   So let him run, for chrissake.  Maybe you can get your info on the internet, but the majority of Americans watch TV, and no Nader candidacy means no real dialogue.   Instead of shitting in your pants about Bush, just try to do what is right (letting Nader run, not necessarily voting for him).   Do what is true and right, and trust that the universe will respond to you in kind.
>> with that ‘not necessarily vote for him,” in the contract, I concur :)

mark heley:
In fact, kucinich is, by the dictates of chaos theory, having a definite and measurable effect on the whole process ( for one, getting me to talk about a politician! - something I consider less likely than a candidate getting elected without ANY media coverage).
>> this ongoing debate on anyone but bush produced the lovely Coming-Together above which u might agree to also.
so nader or kucinich ok to run but in the end they'll only get those who wouldn't have bothered to vote anyway.  sounds fine to me.

Oh and please, please , please explain to me EXACTLY how Kerry is going to be better than Bush.- I’m sure all the readers of UP! will also be fascinated to hear this. And all the young Americans still probably facing the draft if he gets in.
>> where is your memory?  do u remember how it was under clinton/gore?  remember when the bush admin came in and started reneging on every international agreement?  leading right up to this possible 1000 year Evil Empire, spiralling downhill.  it's like weather patterns, if it tips TOO FAR in one way then it suddenly becomes a self-fulfilling degeneration, and you gotta admit that MIGHT be what’s happening right now.  anyone who can't detect a difference can only be doing it DELIBERATELY.
up!

galen aka Dennis Mitrzyk / california kucinich campaign:
We've known all along that we supporters of Congressman Kucinich are a rare breed, "one-in-a-million"... and based on the results of the Primaries, it seems we actually are one-in-a-million.
>> we are many many more than that, galen, maybe even the 100 monkeys u refer to below; but we just knew kucinich never had a chance.  we share every other ideal of yours tho :)

Of course, it's difficult to confront the prospect that "peace, love, and understanding" are ideas who's time have not yet come.

>> they don't go in One Huge Step is all.  2 steps at least, remember?  first kerry, THEN...

Amongst the initiate there was always that hope that the next person you talked to would be the proverbial "100th monkey" and that there would be a cascading avalanche of consciousness expansion that would strip away the veils of Maya to reveal the transcendent destiny of man.  At last report, the critical mass is neither critical nor a mass.
>> wrong, imho.

All hyperbole aside, with the coronation of John Forbes Kerry virtually assured, the Democratic party seems bound and determined to hold a gun to its head and tell the progressive electorate, "Vote for our guy or the fuehrer gets another four years to reek havoc".
>> since that IS the situation (all nonsense aside) what's so wrong with playing the only hand we have?  ON THE DEFINITE ASSUMPTION THAT THAT IS BY NO MEANS ALL YOU DO!

Yes, i'm pretty confident that Kerry would preside over a kinder and gentler US global empire.
>> STAY WITH THAT THOUGHT.  the main thing i wanna get across to you in your despair is that we all need you here alongside, ok?  :)  we might not yet have quite reached 100, so let’s hold together.

Though, let's be honest with ourselves here, the puppet may change, but the puppet masters remain the same.

>> for the time being.  or did u actually imagine that in one step we could throw aside, what, 5 thousand years of alien control or whatever|?  even if we did, we'd still have 2 generations of karma to work thru.

Kerry would be the third wealthiest President ever; he's a member of the same secret society - the Order of the Skull and Bones - as several generations of the Bush crime family; he voted for the Patriot Act, the war in Iraq, and NAFTA; and he's no stranger to "special interest" money. The Democrats say, well at least he's not as bad as Bush... sure, but then, who is?  Satan?
>> if bush names satan as his running mate, would u still refuse to vote for kerry cos he's no different?  (by the way, did u hear about the dyslexic black magician who sold his soul to santa?)

Call me eccentric, but i want more for my vote.
>> then join the evolution by accepting that the first step involves a lot of work (and play!) before we get to that state.

I want my vote to say, "Here's someone who represents my values and aspirations".
>> first u gotta help persuade a very large section of the american public towards your views, NOT the other way round. I reckon the main lesson u have learned from your stint working for kucinich is that the true struggle is in the culture  the politicians follow on behind that :)

Continually gaming your vote by voting for the "lesser of two evils" eventually destroys the institution of voting.
>> who's saying 'continually'?!  i almost never vote, i don't even register!  but i would definitely do it this time!  maybe this is a misunderstanding.  i don't think most Anyone But Bushies believe it's ALWAYS worth voting, nor do i expect things to hold in this old pattern for much longer.  so am not asking you to settle for something less than your ideals (which u may have thought) am asking you to accompany us on this next stretch of the road to victory :)

With each election cycle, the electorate gets less and less choice, as the spectrum of acceptable options narrows; until, ultimately, we get to choose which "bonesman" we want sitting in the oval office directing the War Department. With the contentious suggestion that Kucinich submit articles of impeachment under my belt, i feel well positioned to voice the case for the "vote of conscience".  I've looked at the arguments from all sides and have come to the startling conclusion that i can't avoid voting for Bush!If i vote for Nader, normally civil people will accuse me of being an idiot, a zealot... a traitor, even.  They will claim i've effectively voted for Bush.  If i vote for Kerry, i vote for the Bush doctrine of "pre-emptive war", the Patriot Act, NAFTA, and continuation of the neo-con "war on terror".

>> viewed from europe (complete now with mass revulsion at the spanish govt if it was al queda) we need an american president who's smart enuff to see which way the wind's blowing, not some kinda desperate, eyes to the ground and blunder forwards american president.  a president who's not so ego-involved with war that he CAN'T withdraw or change direction, even under massive public protest.  can kerry be forced to change direction?  well, galen, that's something you must decide and help to make happen.  but u could NEVER do that with bush there.  no?

So, no matter how i vote, i either 'effectively' vote for Bush, vote for many of Bush's policies, or vote for Bush himself.  See what i mean?  I'm confounded.
>> don't be.  first knock off their best champion.  then we'll tackle their liberal version.  that is a MAJOR STEP FORWARD to victory!

By now, staunch Democrats are likely in a tizzy.  "There are substantial differences between Bush and Kerry", is the persistent mantra.  But it's all a matter of perspective.

>> don’t identify with the politicos, u understand much more than that!

To me, a Natural Law-Green-Libertarian, the differences between Bush and Kerry are superficial.  Naturally, from the perspective of a Democrat, Republicans are miles away on key issues, like a woman's "right to choose", the right to bear arms, and the environment.  But what looks like a mile to a Democrat looks like an inch to me, from my perspective so many, many miles away.  So, like Saint Sebastian, i'll take my arrows and vote for Nader - my conscience requires it.Nader is an honorable man who is only doing what he said he was going to do.  He said that if Kucinich got the Democratic nomination, he wouldn't run; but that if anyone else got the nomination, he would.  He's just doing what he said he would do.  That takes principle and courage; but in this day and age of Orwellian double-speak, lies masquerade as truth, virtue is vice, principle is vanity, and ignorance is bliss.
>> galen, can u settle for this compromise?  Let Nader run, for chrissake.  Maybe you can get your info on the internet, but the majority of Americans watch TV, and a No Nader candidacy means no real dialogue.   Instead of shitting in your pants about Bush, just try to do what is right (letting Nader run, not necessarily voting for him).   Do what is true and right, and trust that the universe will respond to you in kind.

>> with that ‘not necessarily voting for him,” in the contract, I concur :)

I know that Democrats love to blame Nader for Gore's defeat in 2000, but that's intellectually bankrupt on several levels.  If Gore wanted Nader-voters, he could have asked Nader to be his running mate.
>> come on, he also needed some of bush’s redneck voters etc.

He also could have adopted some of the Green party platform.  But it's just so much easier to blame Nader than it is to accept any personal responsibility. So, that's one issue.  Another is the persistent cultural amnesia about the fact that there was massive voter fraud in Florida in the 2000 election.  Perhaps Gore should not have conceded when he did.  Perhaps Gore should have asked that the entire State of Florida be recounted, not just those counties where he thought he'd pick up votes.  Perhaps 10% of the Democrats who voted for Bush in Florida should have voted for Gore, that would have easily made up for the Democrats who voted for Nader.  Do you understand better now why it's just easier to blame Nader?
>> no way do I personally blame nader.  I respect the man and always have.  I’ve been convinced by this debate that he should run because that gives some kinda national voice to our more ‘extreme’ pov, BUT ON THE AGREED BASIS THAT NOBODY VOTES FOR HIM IN THE END UNLESS KERRY HAS A 5% LEAD.  ok?

This nonsense has got to stop.  It just doesn't work any more.  If Democrats want the progressive vote, they have to earn it, they have to nominate a candidate who is willing to champion progressive causes like:  universal, single-payer, health care; sustainability; government accountability; putting an end to the unholy alliance between government and big business; fair trade; fair and verifiable elections; instant run-off voting; an emphasis on human values rather than money values; access to education; non-violence as an organizing principle; de-escalation of the "war on drugs"; and greater civil liberties, including freedom of religion and cognitive liberty.I came to the Democratic party for Kucinich.

>> yeah, don’t forget that.  your disillusionment is with politics as she is run (which u suspected b4 anyway, right?).  get back into the culture again where things are really happening.  but don’t waste your vote in THIS election either!

I know Dennis and all you Democrats out there would just love for me to stay and vote for your favourite son, Senator John Forbes Kerry; but i just can't do it.  I said from the very beginning that i would only vote for Kucinich, and maybe Sharpton.  Like Nader, i'm a man of my word.
>> only a fool holds himself to an unwise promise.  don’t let pride get in the way, that’s THEIR game!  shrug it off, realise that politics CAN’T be the way forward, grow up, and get back to work/play!

As George Bernard Shaw observed, "Hegel was right when he said that we learn from history that man can never learn anything from history".

The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson
IT LOOKS LIKE THE FOOKIN +TIANS ARE THE REAL ANTI-SEMITES, AND WE IN THE ALTERNATIVE CULTURE WERE BEING ISRAEL’S HONEST FRIENDS ALL ALONG.  DISCUSS :)

“Zionists formed an alliance with the misled Christian Conservatives, and the US troops took over Iraq and Afghanistan, while supporting the Israeli offensive against the native Palestinians in the Holy Land.  Then came Mel Gibson, and their alliance fell apart.” Israel Shamir

This Gibson film issue is complex, and I have mixed feelings of various kinds about it.   I have time to focus on only one point now: the Gibson controversy has rocked relations between Jewish and Christian Zionists.

The outpouring of *real* anti-Semitism which I have witnessed on Christian Zionist political outlets over Gibson has been mind-boggling, but not really surprising to me.   For years I’ve been warning Jewish friends that their alliance with
Christian fundamentalists would end up as a disaster for them.

Christian fundamentalists at the root are some of the most virulent anti-Semites in creation.  Their devout support of Israel all along was motivated much more by hatred than by love of Jews, despite all the theatrical and smarmy professions of affection.

In pursuing a close relationship with
Christian fundamentalists, the Zionist establishment burned its bridges with most of the political left, middle and even parts of the traditional right in American politics.   It will be impossible ever to repair those relations -- they are permanently destroyed.

For now, it turns out, when push comes to shove, Israel's supposed best friends are raving Jew-haters from the Middle Ages.  The fundamentalists turned on a dime, without blinking.

Bottom line: Israel is being pushed by events into even greater paranoia and into a determination to use the Samson Option whenever the time comes -- which could be much sooner than we think.

Regarding Gibson: I don't agree with his religion or politics, but I admire his courage in standing up to a powerful, oppressive and hypocritical lobby in Hollywood and much of the media.  It turns out that Gibson is a hero in real life, not just on the screen.  One can only guess what Mossad is cooking up for him as we speak.

It is comical to hear many of Gibson's attackers from the media establishment complain about the "
pornographic violence" of his movie, from a stance of pious indignation.  This from a gang of rapacious profiteers who have made many billions of dollars from "pornographic violence" in movies with much less redeeming value than Gibson's.  Such comedians!

With regard to traditional Jewish views on Christ, and the Jewish role in the crucifixion, there is a key document -- straight from the horse's mouth, as it were -- which sets that controversy to rest.  Google "Epistle to Yemen" (also known as "Letter to Yemen") by Maimonides.  Maimonides, centuries after the fact, took full responsibility for the deed, gloated over it, and warned that anyone who tried to emulate Christ in the future would suffer the same fate -- assassination in the night, essentially.  One searches in vain for official literature in the Jewish religious tradition which contradicts Maimonides.

It was a grave political error, from the standpoint of Israeli interests, for the Jewish establishment to get into an ugly argument with Christian fundamentalists over
The Passion of the Christ.  The Christian "Zionists" are portraying the attacks on Mel Gibson as a vicious re-enactment of the original Jewish crucifixion of Christ -- talk about weird infinite negative cultural feedback loops....

We all need massive deprogramming, methinks.

It's difficult to imagine how any kind of relationship can continue to exist between Christian fundamentalists and Jews (including Israelis) after the level of
anti-Semitic vitriol I have seen expressed on forums like the Free Republic.  There was little overt hint of this sentiment in these forums before the Mel Gibson controversy erupted.  The Jews on Free Republic who thought the Christian fundies were their bestest buddies must be shocked as hell.  The mask has been ripped off, and the real monster beneath the teary-eyed bouquets to "the Jews" has been revealed.

Israel has gone to great lengths to cultivate these anti-Semitic fanatics in the U.S., to empower them.  When the bill comes due it is going to be a doozy.

Where were the mainstream Jewish organizations in the U.S. while this mad policy was being pursued?  Why didn't they advise Israel to back off?

>>> If you don't print critiques of the Arab nations, or in some way balance the constant stream
of anti-Israeli articles through your netzine, I shall assume you are anti-Semitic.
It is possible to be anti-Israel and not anti-semitic! Actually Israel is anti-semitic because it is killing the Semites, the people of that area. Most of the people in Israel have NO BLOOD TIES WHAT SO FOOKINEVER to that land, there was a mass conversion of Judaism in the Khazar mountain region which accounts for 90% of the people who now call themselves Jewish. If the Jews came from Jerusalem, why don't they look like the people there? Because they are all from Russia/Eastern European heritage and they converted to the Jewish religion, but they cannot trace their heritage back to Jerusalem ONE IOTA. There is no justification besides the Zionist one, which is, to have a NUCLEAR FORCE. and btw the Israeli Secret Service/Mossad assassinated Kennedy because he was going to cut funding and "throw Israel to the dogs" in his words.

Knifeless Surgery Kills Cancer With Sound //FEEDBACK
A guy by the name of "Rife" I believe from the 30's did this exact thing. He is the inventor of the most high-powered microscope of his time and he believed he could cure any ailment with sound.

Similarly to Dr. Wilhelm Reich (the guy who suggested that all ailments can be cured by simply designing a box to channel orgone (which I happen to believe is true)) -- Rife had his life destroyed and name erased from history books. Whereas Wilhelm Reich was murdered and had all his books burned, Rife "got it easy" by simply having all his belongings destroyed and his lab burned down. He died a poor, broken man.

Spiritual / Out-of-body Experiences //FEEDBACK
Check out the book "DMT: The Spirit Molecule." available at www.hiddenmysteries.com (the best online bookstore for rare books about esoteric stuff) ... Excellent book and it talks a lot about the pineal gland and how the body naturally produces the same stuff that you get during DMT trips when you have a near-death (or, I suppose, death) experience.
