mother of all bluffers
before i left for my 10 days of peace-rap gigs at the Spirit Aid Peace Festival in Glasgow (excellent buncha folks!), the Parallel YOUniversity  received, from a single source, 2 pieces of rather amazing news which would have gone in UP!170 if they’d arrived a day earlier.
both had emerged from web bots, those pesky little internet tracking devices that continuously search the gigantic communication systems and analyse all those snippets for meaning and trends.

one of those items has since surfaced in the overground media, but the other has not yet been mentioned AT ALL!, and i think i might know why!
the first item was that saddam, being the mother of all bluffers, has been pretending, ever since the U.N. fairly completely disarmed him, that he’d secretly retained ‘some pretty big guns,’ and that he did this to keep Iran at bay on his Northern Frontiers, to keep Syria at arms length, to keep the Israelis in check, and to ensure the Saudis left him alone.  all of which actually worked.  some say Americorps was only prepared to attack iraq because THEY KNEW it had no WMDs (whatever they are).  certainly it’s surreal to think how disappointed bush and blair seem to have been WHEN THEY CONTINUOUSLY were unable to find ANY THREAT!!

but wow! this other piece of web bot intelligence would explain a lot of stuff.  for one thing it would explain why, AT THIS VERY MOMENT in Russia (largely unreported in the overground press) Bush Senior is busy negotiating oil deals and getting control of gold trades as fast as he can!

for, you see...

IRAQ'S BIGGEST LIE WASN'T ABOUT WMDS!
IT WAS ABOUT
ITS OIL RESERVES!
According to the web bots, enough snippets of traffic out of Europe, specifically Swiss banker types and financial type sources, suggest that
a)      Saddam Hussein not only bluffed about having WMD's but, much more Important  to the whole world...
b)      Saddam Hussein lied about oil reserves as well!

just when the Dinosaurs’ latest venture looks like it can’t get any worse, along comes what i’d judge is a probability: down the drain go all those deals, you finance our campaign you’ll get the southern fields, you get the al-shiitehead fields if your station buys in, oh such an anno horribilis!

The pre-war 3-million Barrels Per Day that were being pumped may turn out to be all anyone will EVER get from the Iraqi fields, complete with rising salt water content and worse.  The amount may already be on the declining side of the Hubbert peak.

This would explain (finally!) why the Iraqis precipitated Gulf War 1 when they caught the Kuwaitis sideways drilling across the border.  If Saddam had really had “the second biggest world supply of oil”, he wouldn’t have sent in his main army.  Would he?  After all, as the bots have analysed it, there wasn't much left up north.  The loss of any oil would have tipped off the Big Lie.

“The Bush administration appears to be about to "hit the rocks" over oil.  The danger the administration faces is that, should word of the Iraq shortfall leak before Bush Sr. (and the Mobil/Exxon and ChevronTexaco parties with him) can secure long term oil from Russia, the whole Western derivatives pyramid will crash and American markets could be toast within 2 weeks.”  George Ure / urbansurvival.

This might also explain why Putin’s spine (and Chirac’s and the others’) seems to have been stiffened in their resistance to Bush’s recent blandishments for the UN to bail him out in Iraq.

Check Senior’s and others’ current Russian activities in The Moscow Times
http://www.themoscowtimes.com/stories/2003/09/03/001.html

Recent Pravda coverage (http://www.fin-rus.com/analysis/rsitem001BE/default.asp)  suggests the Russians may try to replace OPEC's power  doing it for cash and loans!  No wonder the Arabs are ‘paranoid’ about a Western-Christian Crusade against Islam!

Everyone will be looking at global oil forecasts much more cynically from now on because it may be that Saddam has lied about his oil reserves for
upwards of 40-years! - plenty of time to control the lie and build it on a great foundation.

And one other thing: expect
$400 gold by the end of October!  And even double that by the end of the year!

STAMPING WITH RAGE?
Ariel Sharon, wanting a postage stamp issued with his picture on it before he’s kicked out of office, instructs his people, stressing that it should be of high International quality.
The stamps are created, printed, and released.  Sharon is very pleased.
But within a few days of release of the stamp, he begins hearing complaints that the stamp is not sticking, and he becomes infuriated
(shurely not!  ed)
He calls the people responsible and orders them to investigate the matter.  Which they do, at several post offices, and then report back to Sharon that “There’s nothing wrong with the quality of the stamp. The problem is people are spitting on the wrong side."

i personally will only vote for tony again and advise others to do so IF HE LISTENS, HEARS, APPLIES TO HIS MIND SET, AND APOLOGISES.  we know governing is hard, we’re tolerant of mistakes, but WE ARE NOT TOLERANT of leaders who launch wars that were unmentioned in any manifesto, who ignore the clear will of the people, AND WHO WILL NOT ADMIT FAULT WHEN THEY HAVE DONE ALL THE ABOVE AND HAVE CLEARLY MADE THINGS MUCH WORSE!

so much of what he’s now planning demands trust.  clearly he’s leading us towards the american model: he supports the corporates, he supports frankenstein foods, indeed in almost everything he does he is leading us further into an “american” system which, by the very definition of what we see it doing daily, is at present a very sick culture....

tony’s dream, when he backed his biggest ally, was to put britain in the strong bridge position between europe and america, but he is ending up an international criminal.  instead, imagine what would now be the case if he’d chosen to put himself at the leading edge of the european cultures:  he’d be acknowledged everywhere - but for a dying minority in america - as the planet’s most important statesman, a man of deep principle who stood up against the rush to war and was proven right.

no, i don’t believe he’s a reptile, programmed to increase alien control.  but i do believe he’s been programmed to automatically respect ‘authority’, and has identified with the reptilian brain of humanity: tuff it out, it’s the only language the sheep understand.

//YOU FEEDBACK:
'Taking Loads Of Drugs And Waving Your Arms In The Air’
> The quote 'taking loads of drugs and waving your arms in the air to stroboscopes'  was about how I saw that whole rave thing.  I never got how a bunch of people jumping and sweating to repetitive music with no lyrics were going to achieve anything revolutionary.   I saw it as that generation's inability to cope with the reality which was/is the modern world, escaping into an ersatz nirvana [head in the sand] where they truly believed they loved everyone and the nasty, brutish, unfair world receded.  But once the chemicals wore off they found they didn't even like most people, so they took more because they preferred to feel loving.

As one of the people happily dancing to electronic music & taking drugs while doing so (or not, depending on my mood), I must say that I didn’t fall into the scene because I was trying to escape.
When I first heard electronic music something turned on inside me.
When I took my first pill of ecstasy & my first hit of acid, I found a place inside myself that I knew had always been there.
When I met like-minded people, I realized they were the friends, the family I had been waiting to find my entire life.  We explored so much of our inner & outer selves together, and truly liberated ourselves by loving one another.
Now most of us have chilled off the drugs but gotten more into the music because of the freedom we feel while listening to it, because of the inspiration it provides.
And now many of us, like myself, are creating that music to inspire others & give others the incredible opportunities we had, as a result of finding the music, the substances, and each other.

Were weapons planted on Simon Chapman?
Perhaps uniquely, it turns out there is video footage of the arrest of an anti-capitalist Briton now awaiting trial in Greece which supports his case that Greek police planted Molotov cocktails and other weapons on him.
The arrest of anti-capitalist demonstrators has become so much a part of the fabric of set piece events like the G8, World Trade Organisation or European Union summits that the media largely ignore them.
But the tactics used by the police on such occasions, often with the support of politicians, deserve regular scrutiny because important civil liberties are at stake.  The fact that a Briton and two Spaniards are in jail in Greece, facing sentences of up to 25 years, is a case in point.

Simon Chapman, of Basildon in Essex, was one of many protesters at the most recent EU summit held at Thessaloniki in June. He was with what he calls the "anti-authoritarian/anarchist bloc" when the police decided to make arrests.
They fired CS gas canisters and allegedly used their batons to beat Simon to the ground, where he was also kicked. His head injuries required stitches. At the point of arrest, he was wearing a rucksack, the main purpose of which, he says, was to carry his water bottle. But he was charged with possessing something much more sinister - a cluster of Molotov cocktails, an axe and a hammer. Hence the jail term he faces if convicted.

Caught on camera
Many arrested people have sought to discredit the police by alleging the planting of evidence. It is particularly common in drugs cases.
But Simon's allegations carry rather more weight because a Greek TV cameraman was recording the sequence of events. The shot of the arrest clearly shows Simon, as he says, with a rucksack coloured blue and purple.
The lens then switches to the other side of the road where a police officer is displaying an open black rucksack containing the Molotov cocktails, and other weapons. Two police officers carry this bag across the road and dump it on the pavement next to Simon. The sequence ends with Simon surrounded by three black rucksacks. Meanwhile, the blue and purple one - his own - has disappeared.

This evidence has been made available both to the judge and prosecutor but has not, so far, been admitted as part of the case.

Questions raised
"There are big question marks over this evidence and if the Greek police are going to retain credibility they will have to deal with claims that the weapons were planted on Simon"  says the MP for Basildon, Angela Smith, who is pressing both the Foreign Office and the Greek ambassador to ensure that any trial is conducted fairly.
A spokesman for the Greek embassy in London says it is inappropriate to comment on the case because the matter is before the courts.
The Chapman case is further reinforced by allegations made by two Spaniards that the police in Thessaloniki told them they would plant Molotov cocktails on them.
Nor is Thessaloniki the first summit at which allegations of planted evidence have been made.
Italian police protecting the G8 leaders at the Genoa summit in 2001 were also accused of underhand tactics. On that occasion, a demonstrator was killed and a carabinieri officer stood trial for murder.
After he was acquitted, the officer told a TV interviewer: "I've been used to cover-up the responsibility of others."
He  is now in hospital after a bad car crash which his lawyer has described as "suspicious".

It’s not just the anti-globalisation movement which smells conspiracies at work.

Israel is truly an anachronism
In a world where nations and peoples increasingly intermingle and intermarry at will;  where cultural and national impediments to communication have all but collapsed; where more and more of us have multiple elective identities and would feel falsely constrained if we had to answer to just one of them; in such a world Israel is truly an anachronism.
And not just an anachronism but a dysfunctional one.  In today's "clash of cultures" between open, pluralist democracies and belligerently intolerant, faith-driven ethno-states, Israel actually risks falling into the wrong camp.

COMPASSIONATE COLONIALISM

“A FRAUD MADE UP IN TEXAS''
Sen. Edward Kennedy says the case for going to war against Iraq was a fraud ''made up in Texas''  to give Republicans a political boost.
He also said that, not only has a recent report by the Congressional Budget Office shown that only $2.5 billion of the $4 billion being spent monthly on the war can be accounted for, and that he believes
“this money is being shuffled around to political leaders in all parts of the world, bribing them to send in troops,''
He called the Bush administration's current Iraq policy
''adrift.''
He also expressed doubts about how serious a threat Saddam Hussein posed to the United States, and that administration officials relied on
''distortion, misrepresentation, and a selection of intelligence'' to justify their case for war:  ''There was no imminent threat. This was made up in Texas, announced in January to the Republican leadership that war was going to take place and was going to be good politically. This whole thing was a fraud' .

Of the $87 billion in new money requested by President Bush for the war, Kennedy said the administration should be required to report back to the Congress to account for the spending.
The focus on Iraq, he claimed, has drawn the nation's attention away from more direct threats, including al-Qaida, instability in Afghanistan, or the nuclear ambitions of North Korea.
'I think all of those pose a threat to the security of the people of Massachusetts much more than the threat from Iraq. Terror has been put on the sidelines for the last 12 months.''

MY SON DESTROYED THE PRECEDENT OF INTERNATIONAL
RESPONSE TO AGGRESSION
WE HOPED TO ESTABLISH,
SAYS
BUSH SENIOR
(MORE OR LESS)
"Trying to eliminate Saddam, extending the ground war into an occupation of Iraq, would have violated our guideline about not changing objectives in midstream, engaging in ‘mission creep,' and would have incurred incalculable human and political costs.  Apprehending him was probably impossible...
“We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq. The coalition would instantly have collapsed,
the Arabs deserting it in anger and other allies pulling out as well.  Under those circumstances, there was no viable "exit strategy" we could see, violating another of our principles.
“Furthermore, we had been self-consciously trying to set a pattern for handling aggression in the post-Cold War world.  Going in and occupying Iraq, thus
unilaterally exceeding the United Nations' mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression that we hoped to establish
“Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an
occupying power in a bitterly hostile land.  It would have been a dramatically different--and perhaps barren--outcome."

FOUR MORE WARS!

!!IRAQGAIT!!   Bill Vann:
The CIA leak case through the lens of the Wall Street Journal
The Wall Street Journal  has weighed in to the Justice Department/CIA agent leak with an editorial dismissing the entire affair as a political ruse by the Democratic Party.
Dominated by a group of  extreme right-wing zealots, the editorial board of the leading US business newspaper share the closest ideological and political connections with the Bush White House, and
faithfully articulate the profoundly anti-democratic views of the layer of reactionaries and criminals within the US business establishment that forms the real political base of the administration.
With uncanny and psychedelic echoes of Britain’s Chemical Kelly Affair, the Journal editorial’s subhead called the controversy a “
Beltway scandal-ette,” and a scandal game in which Rove, Bush’s Alisteir Campbell, is unfairly charged, with “no evidence” against him.
In fact, there are very good reasons why Rove is the focus of the developing scandal.  Former US ambassador Joseph Wilson, the husband of the named CIA agent and real target of a dirty tricks operation, has charged that Rove condoned the leak and advised reporters that publishing the woman’s name was “
fair game.

The Journal and Vincent Foster
The Journal editorial board has vivid recollections of a more recent media campaign to “take down” a different presidential aide - White House deputy counsel Vincent Foster.
The Foster affair was the most
vicious element within a concerted and sustained effort by the Journal’s editorial board to undermine and topple an elected president using everything from an insignificant land deal known as Whitewater to the president’s private sex life, writing editorial after editorial implying sinister and perhaps illegal activities based largely on his having worked as a law partner with Hillary Clinton in Arkansas.
After more than a month of this press campaign, Foster drove to a park in Virginia and shot himself to death.  A note found later in his briefcase read:
“The WSJ editors lie without consequence ... I was not meant for the job or the spotlight of public life in Washington. Here ruining people is considered sport.”
The ghouls on the Journal editorial board then seized upon the suicide to encourage the ultra-rightist fantasy that Foster may have been killed because he “knew too much” about the Clintons’ alleged malfeasance.
Yet now, the Journal’s editors wax indignant about the supposed witch-hunt against Rove,
a recognized master in the art of hatchet jobs and smear campaigns.

Endangering Sources, Methods and Lives
This laissez-faire attitude to leaking the identity of a covert CIA agent to the media stands in stark contrast to the Bush administration’s attitude toward previous government leaks.  The Bush White House has imposed the tightest restriction on the dissemination of classified material in US history. When reports of pre-September 11 National Security Agency cables warning of the impending terrorist attacks were leaked, apparently from members of Congressional intelligence panels, Cheney ordered a full-scale FBI probe of the Congressional investigators themselves!  And Rumsfeld has threatened Pentagon sources speaking to the media on condition of anonymity with criminal prosecution.
Repeatedly, administration officials have warned that disclosures could expose intelligence “sources and methods” and place lives of agents and their “assets” in danger.

What Wilson exposed
Yet now, the Journal insists, the administration officials who revealed the identity of Wilson’s wife - Valerie Plame - as a CIA agent weren’t breaking the law, they were performing a public service.  “This is hardly a state secret but is something the public had a right to know,” the editorial states. “When an intelligence operative essentially claims that a US president sent American soldiers off to die for a lie, certainly that operative’s own motives and history ought to be on the table.”
Here, lies and confusion intermingle in such a way that all one is left with is the right-wing vituperation for which the Journal editorialists are famous.
First, Wilson was not an “operative” - his wife was.  His career was public knowledge; his spouse’s was a state secret.
Second, the former ambassador did not “claim” Bush was sending American soldiers “off to die for a lie,” he proved it.
The demand for a criminal investigation, in fact, came not from Congressional Democrats, but from the
CIA itself.  The controversy reflects the tensions within the national security establishment that have been heating up since September 11, 2001 and are now boiling over.  There is plenty of resentment and demands for retribution.
Within the
CIA, there is anger over the attempt by Cheney, Rumsfeld and others to suppress real intelligence that contradicted the White House’s case for war, bypass the agency and manufacture phoney evidence of WMD and terrorist ties.
The virtual civil war raging in the Pentagon between military elements and the right-wing ideologues led by Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and Douglas Feith, has found recent reflection in retired General Anthony Zinni’s accusation (former head of the Central Command in the Middle East) that the Rumsfeld group led the army into a Vietnam-style quagmire in Iraq and stretched the military to the
“breaking point.”  Asked in a recent TV interview whether “heads should roll” at the Pentagon for the failure of post-war strategy, Zinni replied, “absolutely ... somebody should be held responsible.”
Underlying this internecine warfare in Washington there is a growing sense within the ruling elite itself that the path taken by the Bush administration in Iraq is leading to a debacle.  These tensions are being vented through the present scandal.

Iraqgait
There’s an audible note of panic in the Journal’s concern over the fate of Rove. “We trust that Mr. Bush and Republicans on Capitol Hill understand that if they throw Mr. Rove over the side, the blood in the water will really be theirs,” the editorial concludes.
Contrast this with only last January’s hackneyed paean on the occasion of Bush’s State of the Union address which spoke of Bush’s
“steady hand on the helm in high seas, a knowledge of where we must go and why, a resolve to achieve safe harbor. More and more this presidency is feeling like a gift” and it’s clear how the threat that the seedy political operative and dirty trickster Rove might be forced from the White House brings absolute despair.  Not only is the steady hand off the tiller, but there are visions of the president being devoured in the water.
This startling mood swing is symptomatic of a full-blown crisis of class rule opening up in America.

Asked about the motive for the CIA leaks, the senior Bush administration official official said the leaks were “wrong and a huge miscalculation, because they were irrelevant and did nothing to diminish Wilson’s credibility.”
>> what do u think, is he really saying they should have hurt the man more directly, like they did with britain’s chemical kelly?

Wilson, while refusing to confirm his wife’s occupation (CIA), said on Aug. 21 at a public forum in Seattle that it was of keen interest to him “to see whether or not we can get Karl Rove frog-marched out of the White House in handcuffs."

Is Supergrass Meant For Superman’s Brain?
The tenth time it happened I realised my Logical Memory (not just short term names and numbers) was disintegrating.  Launched into a 5 step argument, I’d find around the 3rd step that I’d forgotten the first step and could no longer remember where I was heading!

I was on a tour of ‘peace rappings’ in clubs, at festivals and in private homes around California.  Had my extensive club experiences not made me an old ham with public talking, I woulda been in deep shit.  As it was, I had enough tales and passing ideas to manage a funny or wise conclusion at the 4
th step that left the audiences feeling they’d heard an interesting tale.  So not many people noticed, but I did!

Was it the aging process?  Or was it the Californian grass I was smoking?  I’d noticed something different, and back in London now, reunited with my old Moroccan allies, I think it was the dope, cos the problem seems to have disappeared.

My last visit to the States was before 9/11 when we Zippies were warning that disaster on the scale of 9/11 was heading their way unless they accepted the renaissance that Rave Culture was offering.  And since then, as History secretly developed its comeback in the form of this “xtian” Final Solution republican righthead takeover, the Future was equally secretly developing these super home-grown strains.

Stunned, But Not Stoned
My first puff this time (in a friend’s car from the airport) was, well, like a slightly diluted DMT hit.  I mean, a thousand miles a second trip to “High”!  My sequential memory started dissolving a few days later.  And soon, when I started losing the plot during my talks, I would wonder aloud if we weren’t forgetting that ‘stoned’ means several other things than simply having your brain mega-buzzed and discombobulated?  Have these constantly evolving strains which “stun me but not stone me” been over-specialised?!  Would you even be amazed to find out the dope you’ve been smoking is genetically modified?!

Just as opium ain’t heroin and coca ain’t cocaine, the marijuana plant with which mankind has developed a million year relationship probably contains a dozen different ingredients - something, say, to cool your mood, something to produce a sense of detachment, something to slow the heart, accelerate or slow the blood depending on the social situation, and of course some chemicals and spontaneous mixes of them  that stimulate the brain in several ways.

Could such massively financed research by breeders (whom our admittedly old-fashioned laws define as criminal, black-market businessmen) and experimentation (often on us!) have over-developed just the head-buzz aspects?  and a nice smell, as one grower told me!  Is the definite SOMETHING we get from these strains a “high”?  Or are we being slowly weaned onto a different drug.  Just because the police say it too doesn’t prove it’s wrong!

Best Organic Colombian At Quarter The Price
Once, during my previous stay in San Francisco,  my finances had dropped so low that I’d moved into the poor Mission district where the Mexicans and hippies couldn’t afford the pricey new breeds.  And they were smoking... best Colombian weed (which we hippies considered the best dope in the world!), and for a QUARTER of the price - $65 an ounce!

It was quite different smoking experience too!  As with traditional hashish today, you’d puff for a coupla minutes till you started wondering how long you’d been at it?  Was it 3 minutes, or 30 minutes, or had you always been here?  And there was this delicious disjointing of time ('scuse the pun) as your soul eased (back?) to its unmovable centre while a mist of conscious detachment from Life’s daily grind settled slowly over your limbs!  Nothing like today’s express elevator slamming your head against the roof.

And creativity?!  Where supergrasses buzz my brain senseless and hijack it into a stunned, memory-shredded coma-corner of the psyche, the Colombian, after a few minutes, sends me loping to my typewriter or notepad to sketch down ideas or rhymes, or prods me into gazing wondrously at the Miracle of the clouds floating across the sky.

Is
Supergrass meant for Superman’s Brain, and not for us poor Mexicans?!

VOTE FOR BUSH & YOU GET DICK!

Hi Fraser,
Democracy isn't really something you can bestow - our ancestors had to fight for it - it has to be something ingrained.  I love here because Brescia has been basically run by an elected town council since about 1300 (despite the Viscontis, the Venetian republic, the Austro-Hungarian empire etc.)!  Beat that.  (I've always been a republican, I admit - not the American gun-totin' bible bashin' variety, I mean the type that couldn't give a monkey's fart for royalty, nobility, etc. etc...).

Democracy has to be something you want - which is why the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq are inevitably doomed to failure - if democracy was what they hoped to bring (which I don't believe for a minute).  If it ain't built on solid foundations it won't last long enough to be called a democracy.

As for
Israel.  Smartasses - Clinton went, Bush arrived, hey presto the Oslo Agreement went out the window and Sharon came to power.  Bush puts forward the 'road map', the Palestinians figure they'd better go along with it or become the 'bad-guys', Sharon pays lip service and carries on business as usual.  Which is fine with Bush who can't see any reason why they shouldn't build a wall.  The new Palestinian prime minister sees the score and resigns.  Back to Arafat and square one minus 10,000.  Am I wrong?
Me?  am a firm believer that church and state should be completely separate.  England knows this, and
Northern Ireland should be a constant reminder.  Italy knows this; despite the Catholic church being based here, it's written into the constitution, no less (at least we have one).  Lets cut the horseshit, there's no way a Zionist state will ever work - there will ALWAYS be a revolt of the disenfranchised.

My advice to the
Palestinians?  Put on a silly jewish hat, wobble in front of a wall, and let the Zionists build you a nice new house on somebody else's property (surely, they ain't gonna inspect your smelly dick for extra foreskin!).  They're a bunch of shmucks, hit them from the blind side!  Bugger pride, watching them try to tell the difference between real and fake jews would give us all a good laugh and do their cause a lot of good.

And then somebody would have to explain to me why it hurts so much to hear of so many pointless deaths.  Me, the
arch-atheist-anarchist, why do I care?  But, never ask for whom the bell tolls....  Holy cow, if you guys only knew how much E-Mule, Win-MX, and ShareReactor are hurting corporate America, aided and abetted by their own dissidents!  Get wise, as our truly, truly beloved friends would say...
Jerry - Brescia, Italy.

        ASSIMILATE. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE

//YOU FEEDBACK:
        KILL ARAFAT?
Greetings Fraser.
It is rare that you truly ruffle my feathers; however, your comments on the
Jerusalem Post article did in a big way. I am by no means a supporter of Israeli policy and agree with most of your comments. However, your two comments below are crap.

> "...and the deal which the wise sane majority of people on this planet want is MUCH more than ANY israeli will allow himself to consider."

ANY????

> "IF ISRAELIS KILL ARAFAT THEY WILL HAVE CROSSED THE FINAL MORAL WALL AND BECOME INDISTINGUISHABLE FROM NAZI CONCENTRATION COMMANDERS. PERIOD."

First, there are tens of thousands of Israelis who want peace and can't stand Sharon.  Their situation is obviously similar to those of us in the US and Europe who are ashamed of our governments and do what we can to oppose and build something sane.  Equating anti-Israeli policy with a general anti-Israeli sentiment is dangerous in a world (especially in Europe) where pure dinosauric anti-semitism is on the rise.
>> i take your point absolutely, of  course, erick.  let me re-phrase myself: "IF ISRAELIS KILL ARAFAT THEY WILL HAVE CROSSED THE FINAL MORAL WALL AND BECOME INDISTINGUISHABLE FROM THE GERMAN NATION WHO, SIXTY YEARS LATER, ARE STILL BLAMED FOR ‘ALLOWING’ THE NAZI CONCENTRATION COMMANDERS. PERIOD."

Secondly, to use Nazis from the concentration camps as a comparison is effective for its shock value, but insensitive generally and ignorant of the specific situation.
>> i didn’t say it for shock value.  i said it from my own total moral shock and outrage.

There is no effort by the Israeli government towards genocide; i.e., the extermination of a race or religion which is what the Nazis were after.  The sad fact is that the worst of the fundamental Arabic rhetoric IS promoting the extermination of all Jews. As shitty, imperialistic, etc, etc, as Israeli policy may be, it is not in the realm of genocide.
>> the only weapon of resistance which the Arabs possess is their words.  if i was an arab i would be doing exactly the same: refusing to make ANY compromises (in words) till i see some mega physical ones from the invaders.

Keep UP!

BECAUSE THE TRUTH JUST ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH

Don't Make Assumptions
We all have so many different beliefs in life; beliefs about other people, about the way the world works, about what should or should not happen to us, and so forth.
Don’t assume that your beliefs are correct or accurate. Challenge them!
What do you believe about work?
Do you believe that if you read the “right” book, or find the “right” answer that everything in your life will suddenly work for you?
Don’t assume these beliefs are true, even if you think you’ve seen life work this way: challenge your beliefs and your experience of life will change.

THIS TIME, ELECT US!

BEWARE THE WAR MONGERS
The Bush family reeks of fraud and bad karma.  But even worse than our wretched, gibbling president are the cowardly whores in Hollywood who are currently smearing film stars and music people like Johnny Depp by calling them unpatriotic Americans who righteously question the wisdom of invading a whole nation of Islam -- 1.8 billion worshippers -- which is a dangerously stupid idea.
Disagreeing with Donald Rumsfeld about bombing anybody who gets in our way is not a crime in this country.  It’s a wise and honorable idea that
George Washington and Benjamin Franklin risked their lives for.  These thieves in the White House are so crazy with greed and power, and they are causing so much drastic damage to the world we live in, that they are the ones who should be put on trial for treason.

OK, I’m getting a little excited here, so I think I'll wrap this up quickly, before I spiral out of control and burst into flames.  I am widely known as a
pure-bred, natural-born patriot and a lover of what this country used to stand for.  The Statue of Liberty wasn't out there for nothing.  Beware of War Mongers.  They don't give a hoot in hell if you live or die.  They are in this racket strictly for themselves.

        APOCALYPSE NOW!

Excellency George W. Bush, The President,
The White House, The United States of America,
A Letter of Protest
I have received a report that your administration has submitted to Congress a 2004 Defense Authorization Bill that requests funds for the development of small nuclear weapons with a yield of five kilotons or less, which development has been prohibited since 1993, and that would repeal the Furse-Spratt prohibition on the development of such weapons.  This clear indication that the U.S. intends to develop small nuclear weapons raises the horrifying spectre that nuclear weapons will actually be used.

As mayor of the A-bombed city
Hiroshima I am outraged by the barbarism that has led you not only to attack Iraq, killing or injuring thousands of innocent Iraqi citizens, but also to develop new nuclear weapons.  You are trampling viciously on the hopes of the vast majority of people who seek peace and, on behalf of the residents of Hiroshima, I vehemently protest.

Coming as it does on the eve of the UN NPT (
Non-Proliferation Treaty) Review Conference Preparatory Committee, this announcement, together with statements regarding the necessity of resuming underground testing and rapidly developing new tactical nuclear weapons, represents an extremely regrettable frontal attack on the process of nuclear disarmament.

I
demand that you immediately begin demonstrating a willingness to implement the "unequivocal undertaking" to eliminate your nuclear arsenal promised at the previous NPT Review Conference, take a clear decision to terminate all nuclear testing, and devote the full strength of your great country to achieving a genuinely peaceful 21st century free from nuclear weapons.

DEJA-VOODOO ALL OVER AGAIN!

DO NOT BE FOOLED!
THE IRAQI MAELSTROM WON’T SAVE IRAN
Jonathon Steele
/ The Guardian
The cloud is still no larger than George Bush’s thought bubble, but the storm of concern which the US is orchestrating over Iran is beginning to show uncomfortable similarities with the row over Iraq.
A deadline has been set for Iran to make a full declaration for its nuclear energy programme by the end of this month.  There is a demand for inspectors to go in and examine any site to check for a possible hidden weapons project.  Punitive measures are threatened in the case of non-compliance.

Many take comfort in the view that the mess the US and Britain have got into in post-war Iraq has the benefit that Bush and Blair will not repeat their adventure.
DO NOT BE FOOLED.  That, increasingly, appears complacent.

Blair’s great speech at the Labour Conference (complete with scores of cheerleaders planted among the audience to lead the cheers) showed he stands by his view that preventing the spread of WMDs  if necessary by pre-emptive force - remains top of his foreign policy priorities.
If he’d had secret regrets over Iraq, he might have shifted the focus  of future British policy to different challenges, like his old rhetoric  about world poverty and Africa being a scar on the conscience of humanity.
THAT’S NOT WHAT HE DID!!
He said that dealing with WMD proliferation headed the agenda  for the 21
st century.  Later, on TV, he claimed a new success for Gulf War 11:  it had helped to get Iran to cooperate!

For Bush, too, dealing with WMD proliferation remains a high priority.  Power, it is often said, lies in the ability to set the agenda (viz the Labour Conference itself), and it is remarkable how easily Washington has managed to switch the world’s spotlight to Iran.
> personally, not for me.  am no more interested in Iran than i’ve ever been, anyway consider they have as much right to nuclear weapons as do we i.e. none, and more or less assume that the Bush Blip will have forced every independent country to rapidly up the pace of its own weapon programmes  almost entirely as a self-defence against takeover by the US.

The White House is already hinting at using force.  “All options remain on the table” said Bush in late July.  Imagine how you’d feel if some strutting, heavily armed guy said that to you in a bar.  Not that a ‘holy’ Iranian would be in a bar, of course.
The LA Times subsequently reported that the CIA has briefed friendly foreign intelligence services  on a
contingency plan for air and missile strikes on Iranian nuclear installations.
> this article, which i’ve only slightly re-mixed, came out before iraq’s attack on syria.  now it all seems clear!  you don’t have to invade countries, in fact that’s definitely off-bounds while they learn the iraq lesson.  but, to achieve maximum influence and create max terror (and, of course, max terrorism) all u need is freelance attacks by ‘weekend alliances’ and/or israel on targets all over the middle east  irrespective of national boundaries!!  i bet that’s the vision thing!

Much of the pressure is coming from Ariel Sharon and the same neo-conservative friends of his who drove the war on Iraq.  They recently formed a “Coalition For Democracy in Iraq” (such caring people!) which advocates the overthrow of Iraq’s regime.
> expect the demonisation process to begin soon in a coffeeshop near you!
if you’d read the next paragraph  a week ago, you’d probably have dismissed it as fraser going over the top again.  but not since israel’s attack on syria!

According to the Washington Post Sharon recently told Bush that Israel might strike Iran’s nuclear facilities , just as it destroyed Iraq’s nuclear reactor in 1981.

On Monday the European Union issued its toughest statement  yet on Iran, echoing Washington’s hard line.  The French went along happily.  Until this summer, the EU took a different line from Washington.  Instead of ‘containment’, it argued for more dialogue and trade.
> of course it could all be bluff and bluster.  but what do bully blusterers do when cornered?  that’s right.  which is why Blair should follow his so-called xtian faith and blow the whistle on the Evil One b4 he joins History’s Greatest Schmuck as History’s Greatest Schmuck’s Patsy.

Iran Warns Israel Not to Strike Nuclear Plants
September 28:  Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi, denying his country has "any program to produce weapons of mass destruction," warned Israel that Iran would respond to any strike on its nuclear facilities.
In an interview aired on ABC's "This Week," Kharazi said the possibility of an Israeli military strike on its nuclear program was "
a threat, no question."
Israel has warned that Iran's nuclear program posed a threat to the world and was reportedly considering such a strike if Iran is pursuing a nuclear option.

Kharazi said: "
Israel knows if it commits such an action, it would be reacted. There will be a response"
UP!

Hello Fraser,
I'd like to thank you for
UP!s - I've been reading ones from earlier in the year when I was hypnotised by destruction and unable to follow it. And I've had a thought-
Imagine Osama was killed in Afghanistan 2 years ago. This would explain why his videotapes are so general they could have been shot at any time, if he wanted to maximise his support he could make one where he spoke directly to camera about current events.
It would allow George Bush and his deranged delinquents to carry on their "war on terror" indefinitely (otherwise the American public might resent the trillions of dollars it will cost them over the next 20 years).
One can hypothesise about a situation when Bush might want to announce to the American public that some of the body parts found in a cave have been DNA tested and shown to be Osama's, for example directly before the November elections next year.
It could then be fortunate for him that he has Saddam available as his next bogeyman to cow civilised America into accepting his violence. He too might be dead as, wherever he is, he doesn't have access to a videocam either.
This is just a mad idea but, if it were to happen, its value would be lost if the American public were expecting it. For this reason I’d like to disseminate it now so that he can’t implement it.
I'd better go to bed now or I'll never get UP! in the morning. Thanks again for your take on things.
Emmet / London.
