BILLIONTH COMPUTER CHIP
Last week Intel shipped its billionth computer chip since its first microprocessor for personal computers in 1978. Mercury Research calculates that the next billion X86 CPUs could come as early as 2007.
The original 16-bit 8086 chip contained 29,000 and ran at 5 megahertz. Today's Pentium 4 processor contains 55 million transistors and runs at 3.06 gig hertz - more than 600 times faster.

ZION'S CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS
XTIAN RIGHT / ISRAELI ZIONIST ALLIANCE?
Ultra-Zionist Israelis believe the Jewish State should control all of the Biblical Jewish homeland. So do Fundamentalist Christian Evangelicals who make up the largest single religious grouping in the United States. BUT WHY??!!!
The reason why the No 1 item on the agenda of the Christian Right is not Abortion nor School Prayer but the Jewish State is because Israel has a crucial role to play in bringing on... the Second Coming of Christ!
Last fall, supporters of the Christian Coalition gathered on the Mall in Washington to express their faith and to lobby the administration to make sure it sees the struggle in the Middle East between Jews and Muslims their way - the Christian way.
And not only are they holding Israel Awareness Day pep rallies all across America, they’re also streaming to Israel, to the dangerous streets of Jerusalem to express their undying devotion.
American Christian Zionists say they’re now a more important source of support for Israel than American Jews or the traditional Jewish lobby.
“It’s my belief that the Bible Belt in America is Israel’s only safety belt right now” says Rev. Jerry Falwell, one of the leaders of the Christian Right, the bulk of Evangelical Christians. “There are 70 million of us. And the one thing that brings us together quickly is whenever we detect our government becoming a little anti-Israel.”
Beginning to detect just that in April 2002 when President Bush called on Israel to withdraw its tanks from Palestinian towns on the West Bank, Falwell shot off a letter of protest to the White House - followed by 100,000 e-mails from Christian conservatives. Israel didn’t move its tanks. George didn’t ask again.
“Nothing would bring the wrath of the Christian public down on this government like abandoning or opposing Israel in a critical matter.” And they’re Mr. Bush’s core constituency. “When the chips are down, Ariel Sharon can trust George Bush to do the right thing every time.”
Indeed, they treated Sharon like a rock star when they flocked to Jerusalem last year to celebrate the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles.
WHY DO THEY LOVE ISRAEL SO MUCH?
They don’t. Evangelicals believe the Second Coming of Christ will follow the return of their ancient homeland to the Jews. The creation of the Jewish state in 1948 was a Sign.
Israel’s conquest of Jerusalem and the West Bank in 1967 deepened their excitement and heightened their anticipation. Today’s war between Jews and Arabs was also prophesied. It’s all in the Bible!
“I believe we are seeing prophecy unfold so rapidly and dramatically and wonderfully that, without exaggerating, it makes me breathless” says Ed McAteer, “Godfather of the Christian Right”, a former Colgate marketing executive who’s also a founder of the Moral Majority. He believes the current situation is the beginning of the final battle.
“Every grain of sand between the Dead Sea, the Jordan River, and the Mediterranean Sea belongs to the Jews,” says McAteer. This includes the West Bank and Gaza.
A series of bestseller novels called “Left Behind” are being made into movies which chronicle apocalyptic times, set in the 21st century, complete with war planes and TV correspondents. It all winds up in Israel where, according to the Book of Revelations, the final battle in the history of the future will be fought on an ancient battlefield in northern Israel called Armageddon. It will follow seven years of tribulation during which the earth will be shaken by gigantic disasters. The blood will rise as high as a horse’s bridle at Armageddon, before Christ triumphs to begin his 1,000-year rule.
And the Jews? Well, two-thirds of them will have been wiped out, but the survivors will accept Jesus at last. “The Jews need conversion. They need to know that the Messiah is coming. And the Bible tells us what’s going to happen” says Kay Arthur, head of Precept Ministries which brings thousands of pilgrims to the Holy Land. The only Israelis who are really listening to God, according to Christian fundamentalists, are the hard line Jewish settlers on the West Bank and Gaza who refuse to move. They trudge up to these settlements as if making pilgrimages to holy shrines. That’s because they and the settlers share a core conviction that God gave the land of Israel to the Jewish people.
McAteer suggests the bulk the 3 million Palestinians who live there could be moved to some Arab country, because nothing can come between the Jews and their land. When Rabin signed the Oslo Accords, offering land for peace, many fundamentalists saw it as not only a mistake, but a sin! Arthur hints that God punished Rabin by assassinating him. “I think that God did not want that Oslo Accord to go through. You cannot go against the word of God. God stopped it”
WOT DO THE JEWS THINK?
“The Jews die or convert. As a Jew, I can’t feel very comfortable with the affections of somebody who looks forward to that scenario” says Gershom Gorenberg, author of the The End of Days, a book about those Christian evangelicals who choose to read the Bible literally. “They don’t love real Jewish people. They love us as characters in their story, in their play, and that’s not who we are, and we never auditioned for that part, and the play is not one that ends up good for us... If you listen to the drama they’re describing, essentially it’s a five-act play in which the Jews disappear in the fourth act.”
“When you see what these people are encouraging Israel and the U.S. Administration to do - ignore the Palestinians, if not kick them out, expand the settlements to the greatest extent possible, they are leading us into a scenario of out and out disaster.” Political analyst Yossi Alfer, who served 12 years in Mossad and later became Israel Director of the American Jewish Committee.
AND THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION?
Many American Jewish leaders who used to shun support from the Christian Right have changed their minds. Abe Foxman, head of the Anti-Defamation League, accepts their support. “On this specific issue on this day we come together. And what is the issue? The issue is fighting terrorism” he says.
That is precisely what the Bush Administration and the Israeli Government have been saying since September 11, that they are allies in the war on terror. But the Christian Fundamentalists go further. They say it is not just an alliance between nations but between religions.
Falwell believes most Muslims want to live in peace but, he says, the lines have been drawn. Christians and Jews are on one side, Muslims on the other and those lines were drawn more than a thousand years ago.
“I think Mohammed was a terrorist. I read enough of the history of his life, written by both Muslims and non-Muslims, that he was a violent man, a man of war” says Gerry Falwell. “And I do believe that Jesus set the example of love, as did Moses. And Mohammed set an opposite example.”
What frightens Alfer is that he hears much of Falwell’s world view reflected in the words of the Bush Administration. “When we hear expressions like “the evil ones,” this kind of black and white view of good guys and bad guys.”

EVANGELICALS ADOPT SETTLERS
http://warincontext.org/2003_06_01_archive.html#200435706
but...
CATHOLICS REALLY DO BELIEVE BUSH IS THE ANTI-CHRIST!
walking my dog the other afternoon, i bumped into an old neighbour lady of my mother’s who was very kind, helpful and all-round christian when she was dying. i remembered that piece we printed on catholics believing Bush to be the anti-christ, and i remembered asking several people if they’d been brought up catholic and everyone i could find was lapsed, so i decided to check with her, a full time catholic who really practises it!
.
turns out she knows all about it! “the masons” was her main theme, but she knew about all three signs predicted in the Book of Revelations: 1. Blood Lust she even knew about Bush’s shooting of frogs at the bottom of the family home. 2. Presenting himself as a Christian. 3. Accusing others of being “evil doers”.
She told me it had been fairly well reported in the main Catholic newspaper, and, yes, the priests did and do refer to it during services!
SO MY QUESTION IS THIS: I READ THAT LATINOS HAVE NOW EITHER BECOME OVER 50% OF THE U.S. POPULATION OR THEY’VE BECOME THE MAIN ETHNIC GROUP. IF IT’S 50+% AND THEY’RE ALL CATHOLICS, WHAT CHANCE DOES BUSH HAVE OF BEING RE-ELECTED?!
UP! Sex actually relieves headaches. A lovemaking session can release the tension that restricts blood vessels in the brain.
Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory!
BUSH'S OWN ARMAGEDDON OBSESSION
"We are lived by forces we scarcely understand," wrote W.H. Auden, and George W. Bush is certainly the plaything of such forces as oil geopolitics. But it seems he’s susceptible to other even darker archetypal concerns.
The man is delusional, and the shape of his delusion is specifically apocalyptic in belief and intent. That he would attack so many vital systems, and on so many fronts, from foreign policy to the environment to turning history back on the war on drugs, may seem confusing in terms of realpolitik, but it becomes transparent from the apocalyptic worldview to which he subscribes.
All systems are supposed to go down so the Messiah can come, and Bush, seemingly, has taken on the role of he who brings this to pass.
Though the Reverend Billy Graham taught Bush to live in anticipation of the Second Coming, it was Dr. Tony Evans, the pastor of a large Dallas church and founder of the Promise Keepers movement who taught him "how the world should be seen from a divine viewpoint," and “how to deport himself in an apocalyptic era,” according to Dr. Martin Hawkins, Evans assistant pastor.
"Most of the leaders of the Promise Keepers embrace a doctrine of 'end time' (eschatology), known as 'Dominionim' which pictures the seizure of earthly (temporal) power by the 'People of God' as the only means through which the world can be rescued. Its an eschatology through which Bush has gradually (and easily) come to see himself as a 'chosen vessel' whom God’s called to 'restore the earth to God's control', to bring in the Restoration of All Thing." S.R. Shearer / Antipas Ministries. Shearer calls this delusion "Messianic leadership" -- meaning usurping the role usually ascribed to the Messiah.
"Most presidents have high hopes. Some have grandiose visions of what they will achieve, and he was firmly in that camp." Bob Woodward, Bush at War .
"To answer these attacks and rid the world of evil," says Bush. And again, "We will export death and violence to the four corners of the earth in defense of this great nation." Grandiose visions. Woodward comments, "The president was casting his mission and that of the country in the grand vision of Gods Master Plan."
In Dominionism we can see the theological source of Bush's monomania. Not to be distracted by losing the popular election by a half a million votes, by the Joint Chief of Staff at the Pentagon leaking their unanimous objection to his Iraq plans, systematically alienating much of the world, that 70% of Americans remained unconvinced of Saddam’s imminent threat - -none of this is in the least relevant. His mandate toward action is from God.
"I saw Heaven open and there before me was a white horse who is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war... He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood and his name is the word of God... Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the Nations. And I saw an angel standing in the sun who cried in a low voice to all the birds flying in midair -- come gather together for the great supper of God, so you may eat the flesh of kings, generals and mighty men, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great." (Revelations 19)
Such is " the End of Days and the glory of the coming of the Lord." Truth, carnage, and the ecstasy of vultures. In a ruined world the Messiah slays the antichrist and creates "a new heaven and a new earth." A New World Order. The dead are judged, the Christians saved and the rest damned to eternal torment. The New Jerusalem is established and the Lord rules it "with an iron sceptre."
Revelations is the only New Testament book that justifies violence of any kind, and this it takes to the limit: Christ himself the agent of mass murder.
It is not inconceivable that Bush is literally and determinedly drawn, consciously and unconsciously, toward the enactment of such a scenario. Indeed the stark relentlessness of his policy in the Middle East suggests as much.
The Judeo-Christian-Islamic tradition (and yes it is a single tradition) is being led by its fringe into the abyss and the rest of us with it. The world has been readied for the Fire, but the critical element is the Bush Administration.
Never in the history of Christendom has there been a moment when this rogue element has carried anything like the credibility and political power that it carries now.

//YOU FEEDBACK SEXUALROMANTIC LOVE
Fraser,
Been a subscriber for some time now. I’ve many criticisms of the UP! and I don't always agree with the opinions in it, but it challenges me, and I guess that’s why I subscribe (and I subscribe with my personal "I want it in the inbox whenever it comes" address). We all need to have our concepts of the world challenged and UP! does it all the time. It does educate and inform, and now that George (why couldn't they have elected Homer Simpson?) Bush has declared "Major combat operations" to be over, and I’ve seen reports such as the thing Channel 4 did a week or two back, I'm realising just how in contact UP! is with the real world of people who want peace.
To this end I want to say two things, and I guess they're not going to be in what I perceive as the style of UP! but I'll say them anyhow and you might see fit to publish in with the rest.
Romantic Love is more than sex, and your writing makes this apparent. Some of us look for more sophisticated things eventhan this. Sometimes our relationships are so obscure that we don't know why we're in them. I'm not sure what I took from this week’s incoming, but I am sure you essentially said something deeper than I could perceive. Some time to reflect will help I'm sure. I know only that I’ve been married 14 years this year, and despite having deep feelings for others, which are not hidden, I would not leave or lie to my wife.
I was approached by a group outside our local Tesco in the North Wales, (there’s more than one :-), about boycotting Israeli products for the reasons outlined this week, and as I wanted to be informed before signing anything, I took a flyer and promised to look on their site and contribute there. I didn’t, to my now greater shame. It's apathy and personal overbusy-ness wot did fer me yer honor, and I let it slide because it wasn't in my back yard. Many of us do this. It’s no excuse mind, but it is a reality, it's what happens.
I would dismiss things from my mind if it were not for the UP!. I can't always cope with the influx, and I’d wish for a less stream of consciousness style, but in every important respect, in every way that really matters, you're doing a good job Fraser. The world would be less without you.

UP! Gentle, relaxed lovemaking reduces your chances of suffering dermatitis, skin rashes and blemishes. The sweat cleanses the pores and makes the skin glow.
Your piece is excellent. But I ended up pasting all the parts together because I kept getting interrupted by the other parts. I get the strategy, but it would read better as one or maybe two long parts. It really stands apart from the news in the UP!, and because it is narrative in style one wants to read it in fluid gulps.
I suppose part of the strategy is to get people to read the newsy bits, but if the narrative is too broken you tend to skip over the newsy bits, rushing to find the next piece of narrative. My suggestion is maybe half early on and half towards the end.
>> suggestion adopted this week :)
All in all, it makes the UP! a lot more personal and interesting. I could imagine people wanting to get the next instalment.
Reflecting on your regrets after the date, I think the idea of having some set philosophy around tantra is a good idea, but there also needs to be something that inspires a woman to feel chemistry. That's a tough one. Your idea of the kiss is a good step in that direction.

>> my first reaction's to say of course! but then maybe 'chemistry' is just one of the ways? unless we define 'chemistry' to include ALL the different paths, from s to m, to Trust, Awe, existential frisson, detached experimentalism, shaggylust, care to continue this list?

am not a god, am a human, am a man,
you’re no queen, you’re a woman, take my hand,
we’ll make a space in the lives we had planned,

yes, we’re different, worlds apart, we’re not the same,
we laffed and played at the start like in a game,
you could’ve stayed outside my heart but in you came,
and there you’ll stay until it’s time for us to go.
don’t ask why of me, don’t ask how,
don’t ask forever of me,
just love me, love me now!

i was an oak, now am a willow, now can bend,
and though i’ll never in my life see you again,
yet here i’ll stay until it’s time for us to go.

treasures lost in the dark
according to gurdjieff, we humans are 3-brained beings who, because of the conditioning laid on us by a dangerously ignorant society, grow up pretty much identified with only one of those brains - in my case the Intellectual Brain. (indeed i’ve devoted most of my conscious adult life to trying to reconnect with my other 2 brains to achieve Balance, which led me into Rave Culture and etc, but that’s another story :)
this means our other 2 brains (Emotional and Physical-Instinctive), the other two equally important wheels on our tricycle, continue to operate in parallel - but in the dark. we just don’t see them or remember them or take them into account (the tyres may be threadbare, the wheels bent out of shape), except when they ‘suddenly’ ‘peak’ into consciousness, which is why our lives so often end up in completely unplanned places.
and that’s why, though we can hit such human heights of emotional intensity and spiritual materialism while conversing with the other two brains during a sexual joust, we almost totally forget them when we return to our mental centre. you could almost define the planet’s problem thus. these experiences, these treasures, these Memories of Oneness, just sort of disappear from our lives until our awareness returns to those centres again (like next time between the sheets :).
(a girl wrote to me a few months ago saying that she’d had to stop going to peace marches because, although she knew they really were for peace, when they were all actually together they always argued about different aspects of it, AND SHE COULDN’T BEAR SUCH PAIN WHEN SHE KNEW THEY ACTUALLY ALL AGREED!)
erotic memories of S
S was an absolutely classic example of someone over-identified with her Intellectual Brain, a real hot, emotional, curving clutching, grasping, gurgling, melting, full-of-love ‘Babe’ buried deep (and especially from herself!) beneath an identification with what the english call “the chattering classes”.
intellectual, informed, cool, lovely S would think you were crazy if you really thought reality was anything other than the mental world her intellectual brain had constructed (or been handed down, to be accurate) and within which she’s clearly an efficient even heavy presence. i invested a lot of our time together trying deliberately to communicate with her other 2 brains without tripping the mental alarm into action. (such erotic fantasies that lady had!)
for example, i’ve learned never to answer the phone when i’m in a raised emotional state - i’m sure to mess it up; i just mostly can’t switch centres so easily. S was quite different. she could scarcely prevent herself from answering! and she could operate fully functionally!
good for business, no doubt, but not good for a Balanced Life. we both failed: i hadn’t achieved such ease at shifting gears, but am full of hope. S had been made that way by conditioning, she couldn’t do anything else! (she once admitted she’d be proud to be the princess who could still feel the pea under 100 mattresses!) (in real practical life you’d be better equipped if you could ignore it under 1) (all right, mr president, they’ll raise oil prices if we just sit here. but it’s their oil, izzn’t it. and we’d do the same, right? so maybe we should work at cutting down our over-use, eh?)
now we’re all like this to some extent, and we should all see the harmonising of these brains as the only real purpose in life (otherwise most of our lives are happening ‘in the dark’ which is ignorance, unconscious... not a life at all).
no manifestation, no common ground
in gurdjieff’s words, unless all 3 brains are working in harmony, unless there are Three Forces present, then there is “no manifestation.” Nothing Happens! (beyond appearances which can still fool the mind) and goes on not happening until, well, we die. most people in public life are like this they simply never in their whole lives have a single balanced moment when they feel At One, gently present and aware in all 3 centres simultaneously.
manifested!
rather, from the pov of Consciousness, be a dog! :)
(“most people live lives of quiet desperation”)
with S (as with many modern females i’m noticing) it mattered not a whit how much trust and intimacy we’d established previously (at least i thought we had!), when we met again it was like meeting a stranger. i’ve written a lot in this Diary on the reasons - women having to hide their sexuality in case it triggers the men into uni-directed obsessive and frankly BORINGLY PRIMITIVE behaviour, or to protect their social status etc - but it still hurt me, and more each time, despite us talking through the reasons for it, and despite her (Intellectual Brain) aim to be free of it..
for, after a while, sure, we both knew it was only a surface, but it was a massively defended surface, not one you could casually break through (like cupping her buttocks as she allowed you to peck her cheek) for that would irresistibly activate the hackles, and we’d be wasting the first hour of our time together (which we did several times!).
when her heart didn’t seem to lift as mine did when we met, when she wouldn’t even once rush into my arms, even after we’d talked it through many times, my heart would sink, i’d begin to doubt my confidence that Together we could Go All The Way, and that didn’t help either of us or the world. she understood what was happening, we both did. but understanding isn’t enough, not even nearly. changing things is all that counts, which makes a ‘manifestation’ .
finally, in the true cooperative spirit we’d consciously built together of trying to change things (and also, incidentally, playing into one of her fave fantasies) we agreed that next time i arrived at her house, i’d order her (and ‘gently force my head down if necessary. giggle giggle’) to give me a blow-job, standing there in her doorway.
that wasn’t keeping her mental brain apart, of course, that was trying, finally, when our other two brains had established enough trust ‘in bed’ (obviously this is just a phrase, it wasn’t always in bed), to start confronting the head to ‘face up’ to and begin to integrate the gestalt of the whole situation (the other 2 brains’ breathtakingly rapid advances).
until then, any common ground lovers might have established can be deleted in a nanosec, like with me and S, because there’s no ‘manifestation’ until all 3 brains are cooperating and each doing what each does best. ask S! watch what brain she answers from!

CONSPIRACY TO CONTROL THE WORLD “an agreement among people to perform a criminal or wrongful act”
On January 16, Tony Blair proclaimed that the impending invasion of Iraq "has nothing to do with oil, or any of the other conspiracy theories put forward."
On January 23, Sen. Richard Lugar, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, quietly threatened Russia and France that their countries would be frozen out of staggeringly lucrative post-war oil contracts unless they rolled over and endorsed the US attack.
Yes, Tony, there is a conspiracy, in the dictionary sense of the term: an agreement among people to perform a criminal or wrongful act.
It consists, not of a tiny cabal, but of the entire American power elite, from politicians to business executives to journalists. Knowing they can count on the uncritical support of the mass media, the conspirators can allow knowledge of their cynical motives and thuggish tactics to be made available in journals and other specialised fora, all but invisible to most Americans but accessible to the few with sufficient time and inclination to dig beneath the headlines.
A startling book-length report authored by the Research Unit for Political Economy (RUPE) presents a rigorous analysis of such publicly available sources - including official documents, think-tank papers, and press reports. It anatomises the conspiracy behind the war and gives a truly comprehensive explanation of the ongoing and quickening global crisis.
The RUPE report wholly confirms the widely-held view that the war is a massive oil grab, "on a scale not witnessed since the days of colonialism." Further, all debate about arms inspections and al-Qaeda links is revealed as pure political theatre, since the decision to invade Iraq had been made months in advance.
JUST DO IT!
But seizure of Iraq's multi-trillion-dollar petroleum reserves is only the immediate goal. The report reveals that the US intends to use the Iraq invasion as a launching pad for a drastic reshaping of the Middle East, to be followed by an unprecedented expansion of US power worldwide. The strategic trend of US foreign policy now points unmistakably towards global empire.
What's really at stake -- and it won’t surprise the lefties -- is US control of global markets. The report reveals that the US economy is facing a nightmare scenario: a crisis of overproduction has crippled US GDP, resulting in monstrous trade and budget deficits, even as a potentially disastrous worldwide deflationary spiral appears to be under way.
Meanwhile, superpower rivals Europe, Russia and China are mounting a vigorous challenge to US economic pre-eminence, which is further threatened by the euro's emergence as a credible alternative to the dollar as global reserve currency
US confiscation of the world's richest oil-producing regions would render potential challengers for even regional supremacy perpetually dependent on US forbearance.
"Once it has seized the oil wells of west Asia, the US will determine not only which firms will bag the deals, not only the currency in which oil trade will be denominated, not only the price of oil on the international market, but even the destination of the oil."

UN RIGHTS EXPERT: ISRAELI DEFENCE FORCE HITS COULD BE WAR CRIMES
Moshe Reinfeld
The assassinations carried out by the Israel Defense Forces in the territories could be considered war crimes, according to the chairman of the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Prof. Antonio Cassese.
His opinion will be submitted Wednesday to the High Court of Justice as part of a hearing for a petition filed by the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel (PCATI) and the Palestinian Al-Qanon human rights organisation.
The petition, filed a year-and-a-half ago, was drafted by attorneys Avigdor Feldman and Michael Sefarad.
High Court President Justice Aharon Barak and Justices Theodor Or and Eliahu Mazza have already rejected an argument presented by Israel, which tried to convince the court that the assassination issue is not adjudicative.
TARGETED PINPOINT PREEMPTION NOT!!
In the next hearing to be held in 3 weeks, the court will consider the petitioners' request to issue a temporary injunction that would bar any assassinations (or TARGETED PINPOINT PREEMPTION, as Israeli authorities call them) until the petition is decided.
According to the petition, from the start of the intifada in October 2000 until April 2003, the IDF has killed 230+ Palestinians, including 80 children, women and other innocent bystanders, in this manner.
In the opinion to be submitted Wednesday, Cassese establishes that the killing of civilians suspected of terror activity when no direct belligerent operation in which they are involved is taking place, substantively infringes the most basic principle of international law, which states that ARMED FORCES MUST DISTINGUISH BETWEEN COMBATANTS AND CIVILIANS.
This opinion is of major significance, since Cassese is considered a reputable and leading expert on international humanitarian law. He was the first president of the ICTY, and served as president of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. And he has been a member of the UN Human Rights Committee. He’s also a faculty member at several universities, including in Florence, Rotterdam and the Sorbonne.

//YOU FEEDBACK SEXUALROMANTIC LOVE
fitting your theme of "sexual revolution," you should write about why the church has tried to repress sexuality in art and culture since the beginning of time! izzit really just "to prevent pregnancies and STD's" or is it to enslave us with fear about the one greatest pleasure-giver known to humanity?
For 200 years, the secret room in the Naples Archaeological Museum, which contains sexual artefacts from excavations at Pompeii and Herculaneum, has been closed to all but the very rich and influential.
Now, despite vociferous protest, it’s finally open to the public. You need to buy your general admission ticket, then maybe ask about the secret room (camera segretta). You'll be directed to another kiosk where you'll be assigned a visitation time and given a voucher good for that time period. All tours are free and guided by someone who speaks your language but who isn't necessarily knowledgeable about the artefacts. You can hire an archaeologist to tell you more about them if you wish.

Hi Fraser,
This is the first time in years of reading your lovely messages that I have felt the desire to write to you. I have always enjoyed reading what you have to say, not really agreeing with everything, and at times wishing you could steer away from the war.
But your new topic of interest is something that fascinates me. I was particularly interested in your concept of the 2 routes of escaping social tabus.
I would not absolutely agree that the lowering of consciousness using narcotics is to distract the mind and blot them out so that one can pass UNDER the social tabus. I have always remembered in great detail what happened and find that
relaxing and opening your mind with MDMA can greatly contribute to a very positive and spiritual experience.
>> no arguments there, then, i specifically said ‘narcotics’ and alcohol, not psychedelics or empatheogens :)
I am interested in your idea of raising consciousness and passing OVER the social tabus. You say this Path is very little known, appearing in very few to no recorded sources of which you are aware. I would be very interested in hearing more about this, perhaps I should just be patient and see if it is contained in your next letter.
>> patience being everything in this area, me dear :) of course, drug use is ONE of those ways and some of that is pretty well recorded.
Anyway, it has been ages since I last saw you, am happy to hear you are investigating the sexual-romantic world again, hope you have as wonderful a time as I!

“living with your knowledge”
let’s put it this way: we all have too little of the sensitive, the conscious, the adventurous and the erotic in our lives because
a) the world is ruled by the most dangerously ignorant, selfish and repressed individuals in our species (which is how you rise to the top in our present system) and
b) tragically and unnecessarily, though we can still touch some peaks of Community and Unity with Others, once we’re back into our heads, we literally forget these other equally important and real places in us, and we forget the path back there; we even forget that there is one!
Castaneda has some great descriptions of how he’d reach these hidden powers in himself and be able to leap off tall cliffs and so on, but the next morning it would all seem like a dream, he couldn’t take seriously any attempt to access the powers again, nor could he quite believe or even remember (till don juan would prompt him) what powers he’d accessed. don juan, like gurdjieff, was always trying to teach him to ‘live with your knowledge’.
so a big part of the modern tantric lover’s ‘work-play’ is gently keeping the Other’s mind from getting involved in the emotional personal-physic level we’re exploring. it’s almost working at fooling the mind, not by being dishonest, but so it doesn’t leap up like a scared, badly mistreated, over-responsible dog and start barking a huge moral fuss when all that’s happening is 2 human beings exploring each other’s other parts.
gurdjieff sometimes called the path he taught the Way of the Sly Man. often the slyness involves tiptoeing past the Intellectual Centre and all the fucked-up stuff it thinks it knows :)
role playing, roles working
as a very complex human being with many varied experiences, i reckon i have to work out a reasonably simple and accessible social role for the beginning stages. despite my age, for example, could i still be being considered as a possible ‘catch’? surely not! unless the Other’s habit is so ingrained? or could a lady react against this possibility?! like being stymied as to ‘where else can this go!?’
should i intro myself as a lover of the erotic or whatever? tantra teacher/ student/ explorer is better. does that move it immediately into the right area for both of us, or does it highlight it too soon thus triggering the mental brain’s dossier of guilts and tabus?
“actually i’m a Neo Tantric! we make it up for ourselves as we go along and why not, so long as you’re being scrupulously honest!”
wot izzit i/we am/are up against?
soon as you step beyond mere social tabus, it’s self-evident that in the Real Parallel World (of 3 brains working harmoniously or as half way to the bonobos’ 30 orgasms per diem) we should be fondling each other as we converse, i personally should be interfondling and dallying and occasionally penetrating with several women on a weekly basis.
there is absolutely no reason why this should not be happening. especially today when we are free from external repression of any real kind - the jailers having melted away (by society being rendered more tolerant by all our political efforts) but the people having grown ‘secure’ in their imprisoned ‘safety’. (see Personal Security, the 2nd Enemy of a WoMan of Knowledge, below)
so that’s what i/we am/are UP! against: people feeling less free and loving than they actually are. so my aim is to help them/us see how free and how loving they/we really are. to allow them to express their sexuality as freely as they want and no more! but no less either! no obligations beyond that, wanting to do nothing that the Other doesn’t want 100% themselves. it’s so obvious!
so how to do that? by, initially, telling them! sharing the cages, sharing the solutions. satisfying their minds and then, when the mental brain is convinced enough to, well, just shut up for a while.....
the 2nd enemy of a WoMan of Knowledge
to return to Castaneda, where sex is concerned (need another word, one that isn’t ‘Love’ and isn’t ‘Romance’ either) it’s like our socalled civilisation (the one that’s bomming and looting the hell out of the rest of the planet right now!) has overcome the 1st of the 4 Enemies of a WoMan of Knowledge, but been instantly beaten by the 2nd.
the First Enemy, which society has overcome, is Personal Fear, so that we find ourselves in a fairly secure place, personally. we’re free of the Jungle, free of the old health horrors and moral guilts, free of unwanted pregnancies, and we can (theoretically) have ‘casual’ sex on a more frequent basis without upsetting the neighbours, and with a wider range of acquaintances than ever before on a mass level in history.
not bad, right? except that, as don juan describes, this very Inner Sense of Security, our reward for overcoming Personal Fear, becomes the Second Enemy! and i’m saying it’s defeated us! how? because we’re only ‘secure’ in our ‘security’ if we keep to our own prescribed paths, and so we become more and more loath to put ourselves in situations which threaten this security.
we haven’t, in historical fact, really advanced beyond this first stage of ‘Liberation,’ the first step out of Arranged Marriages into Romance, for, after living that out for a few years or whatever, the majority seem to decide they’ve seen it all, know it all, and then opt for the other even deeper conditioning, marriage, of one concentration or another. meanwhile our Society goes on trashing Nature and our fellow beings. why, as a species, or at least as a culture, do we keep turning our backs on our inner humanity?!
instead, a WoMan of Knowledge has to risk this Sense of Security, must go with someone who’s quite different, who does not fit our prescribed boundaries, or follow an emotion, or drop a demand (Big One that) or occasionally surrender to a situation, allow something to just HAPPEN, instead of always directing it and being in control. (‘control’ is the barrier we put up to protect our Sense of Security).
and when you do that, a whole new world of possibilities opens that was waiting for you! that was yours all along! a world with possible adventures round every corner, potential treasure troves waiting to be dug up at every crossroads. the LAST thing you want now is WAR!
and the WoMan of Knowledge moves on to start the struggle with the 3rd Enemy Power. Old Age is the 4th Enemy, but am concentrating on Power right now thankyou very much ;)
(and notice with Power you first have to access it before it can become a threat )
(but, if you don’t find Power threatening to become an Enemy, you’ve been beaten by Security.)
(NEXT WEEK: the kiss as a strategic beachhead)

//YOU FEEDBACK ISRAELI BOYCOTT
>>I have sadly come to the conclusion that, given the scale of the atrocities and collective punishment waged by the Israelis against the Palestinians, I have no choice but to boycott Israeli products. On reflection, whether Jewish or not, you might decide to do the same.
I’m glad that you have finally woken up to the Palestinian's situation, I personally have been boycotting Israeli goods for something like 20 years. In those years those suicide bombers have been conceived born, and have grown up under that dreadful tyranny. I do not link the oppressors with their state religion, that simply muddies the issue. The are a bunch of tyrants who are kept in power byus, the first world, they do it because of money and power, until we start to implement UN resolutions fairly and honestly there is no hope of an end to terrorism, we ourselves have engendered, fed and armed it in order to line our own pockets. We are as guilty as the terrorists, but unlike them we are not honest about it. I abhor violence of any kind, and am horrified to see the way in which the First world uses it on defenceless peoples in the name of a WAR against terrorism, As long as evil is fought blow for blow it will always prevail. on both sides.
