Hi Fraser, just wanted to say that I agree with you
re the supposed 9-11 conspiracy. It's all very interesting but
ultimately unprovable, a distraction. 655,000 Iraqi deaths, lies
about weapons of mass destruction and the hijacking of Iraqi oil is
enough.

As for your troubled question as to why the

Fundamentalism is
the problem these days, whatever it's ideological cover. The
conspiracy nuts are reflecting this world wide problem within their own
sphere.

they are calculatingly crazy, which means they would certainly be

said before - there's enough stuff we DO KNOW they did (like supporting
Saddam, authorising his atrocities etc etc etc) so you don't actually
need the conspiracy stuff to prove a conspiracy. The
conspiracy is there for all the world to see.
My joke about David Icke is that he is part of a conspiracy to undermine
conspiracy theory. You could say the same about the 9-11
believers.

all of you know that i’ve been predicting this Collapse of the Dinosaurs’ Last Stand since 9/11 itself. sure, i called the date a bit early more than once in my enthusiasm. but this time even a majority of the Great American Public has finally arrived at the same conclusion. perhaps not fully consciously yet, they have nevertheless been finally penetrated by the sneaking realisation that our Planet simply cannot tolerate this kinda Dino behaviour any more
even the Tories in the uk are being forced to re-invent themselves as planet-lovers and, indeed, ‘Lovers’. sure, a third of david cameron’s former thatcherite party will never follow his clarion call, but that is to be expected. the whole population is never going to agree, but that’s not necessary for Things To Change, there will always be a hard minority rump left behind and that’s what is now happening. a hard minority rump of old US Dinos will similarly be left behind as the modern republicans retake control of their party, and the democrats will argue about how far and how fast to go, but the Change has Begun! what will make their task so much easier is that a large section of the population made the shift years ago! so the only real resistance will be from the hard rump, and their confidence has been deeply undermined already! with their sins filling our media for years to come, the Dinos will be on the run!
one thing all the ‘experts’ always overlook is the emotions and the Vision (of another Way of Life) that can be unleashed after an election like the one we’ve just seen. things do NOT continue according to the old situation which is the only wisdom by which ‘experts’ steer their opinions. (experts, including our own fundamentalists are experts precisely because their concentration on one level or area of human activity ignores and misses the Bigger Picture).

The election results are a great leap forward in
our efforts to save the free and open Internet.Reps. John Dingell (D-Mich.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.) are both strong supporters of Net Neutrality and will most likely take command of telecommunications policy when their party reclaims majority power in the House in 2007.
According to a report today in MultiChannel News, the two “are poised to take control after House Republicans were trounced at the polls Tuesday night, restoring Democrats to power for the first time since 1994.”
Dingell should be seated as chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, the panel that oversees phone, cable operators and Internet companies.
Markey will take the helm of the key Telecommunications and the Internet Subcommittee. He has been an outspoken champion for Net Neutrality. New telecommunications legislation by Dingell and Markey in 2007 would likely include Net Neutrality mandates from the outset.
The victory vindicates expected majority leader Nancy Pelosi’s decision over the summer to elevate Net Neutrality in the Democratic Party platform - a risky move after many a Washington prognosticator declared it a dead issue.
In the Senate ALL pro-Net Neutrality Senators won decisive victories in their states. This list includes members of both parties:

The major telecommunications bill pending in the Senate is a massive giveaway to the phone and cable companies, and should be blocked during the lame duck Congress. profit.The Moondust Festival was billed as the biggest music festival of its kind in India - a 4-day “psychedelic trance” party in the middle of the desert in Rajasthan . But police broke it up at about 3am on Monday after local villagers complained that the 3,000 guests were drinking alcohol, taking drugs and indulging in “indecent behaviour”.
Others accused the organisers of breaking environmental regulations by playing loud music within 3 miles of the Jamwa Ramgarh wildlife sanctuary, one of the last refuges of the Indian tiger.
“Norms are being flouted and the permission limits have been flouted. We have been given permission by the magistrate to investigate the matter,” said N. Pandey, a district magistrate in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.
The move comes after a ban on all-night beach parties in the southern Indian state of Goa.
The festival was typical of the raves that took off in the West in the early 1990s and spread to Asian beach resorts, notably Goa and the Thai island of Koh Phangang. The organisers, who included the son of a local marble tycoon, charged 2,500 rupees (£30) for a 4-day ticket allowing entrance to the ten-acre site 25 miles from Jaipur.
“The hospitality extended by Rajasthan shall be absolutely impeccable,” said the festival’s website, www.moondust.in . “Bring a smile, some good vibes and your dancing shoes and get involved with the mystic powers in the land of Lord Shiva.”
As well as dozens of Indian and foreign DJs, organisers provided tents, lavatories, water for drinking and washing, and a medical centre.
NDTV, an Indian television station, showed a bag of hashish and a used condom found at the site.
“A lot of things happen at night. The foreigners drink, take drugs and smoke marijuana,” one villager, NOT called Shiva, told NDTV.
Indian authorities have become less tolerant of drug abuse among Western travellers in recent years as India tries to attract older, wealthier tourists.
Last December the authorities in Goa banned music on outdoor loudspeakers after 10pm, in effect outlawing the all-night beach parties that have made the former Portuguese enclave famous.

Wonderland is unique in the world of
psy-trance films. I've viewed many
psy-trance
documentaries in recent times. Most are promotional, endorsements
for event organisations or particular artists. Some are full of
bravado, bristling with machismo and boasters embodied by
DJs portrayed
as shaman
priests. >> i launched all that stuff about the DJ as Shaman. i changed my mind a few years ago however, realising that it’s the rave promoter who is the real shaman which is why most have failed.
But if shamanic consciousness is apparent in psy-trance, and quite a few propose that it is, it would be discovered right there on the dance floor: where egos are dissolved, limits trespassed and identities transformed. Like no other film on psy-trance culture Welcome to Wonderland penetrates this difficult membrane, exposes the organic machinery, capturing the heart of dance, or more specifically, the social characteristics of modern trance dance.
James Short's film about the Melbourne psy-trance scene, a product of 6 years work, does not sell itself as an ethnographic film - but it passes as one nevertheless. And it does so because it is a grassroots film, dedicated in its pursuit of a milieu of people from various backgrounds and ages, through some of the most outrageous, intimate and self-annihilating moments of their lives. Recording comments and gesticulations with careful attention to detail cut to a fine sound track, the film enables participants to narrate their stories and allows viewers access to the 'participation mystique' momentarily transparent in the primal real estate between the speaker stacks at majestic bush and forest locations at Australia's Rainbow Serpent and Earthcore Festivals. The film records a momentous locomotional transit into the new millennium at the Earthcore Millennial party at Lake Eildon.
With a great score that includes work by Sugar and Ben Last, and an excellent series of dance montages and interviews, this film should not be missed by any trance enthusiast or indeed anyone interested in electronic dance music culture.

‘We strongly condemn the state terrorism of Israel. This savage attack is a challenge to the international community ... which must be vehemently condemned. The UN Security Council must stop these massacres and punish Israel for its repeated crimes.’

ministry spokesman has warned that
Tehran will not
hesitate to retaliate with a crushing blow if
Israel attacks
its nuclear sites. This follows comments by Israel's deputy defence minister Ephraim Sneh that Israel could launch military strikes against Iranian nuclear installations as a last resort. He was not, he said, advocating a military attack, but considered it a last resort. Ominously, though he had added that sometimes the last resort was the only resort.
Iran’s Mohammed Ali Hosseini has now made clear that if Israel indulged in such “stupidity”, then the response of Iranian fighters would be emphatic, crushing and immediate.
It would not take one second, he added.

Dear Frase...I knew Tim Leary and did many benefits for him and light shows with him... I agree that he is one of the most important prophets of our time, and will always be remembered.
See if you can rent, buy or borrow a feature film titled "Timothy Leary's Dead"... It's a cult film over here...it bombed commercially but is very available at video stores.... I did the special effects for the film... It's a tongue in cheek view of his life and "afterlife".
He also appears in a short film I made about the "Gathering of the Tribes", also known as the "Human Be-In". This event happened in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco in 1967... The title of my film is "Be-In".... Besides the Dead, other political and artistic luminaries appear briefly, and the music track is by "Blue Cheer".... these two films need to be perceived by all who have any interest in Tim, and what he gave birth to in his all too brief life on this particular plane of existence... He is still with us, in our hearts and minds, and his influence is felt by all who came to know him, read his many works, or may have had a passing interest in him. This "influence" is experienced by most people... subconsciously, or on other planes of existence...

Read your eulogy on Saint TIMOTHY. Beautifully written. And since sainthood is a Catholic invention he may have coughed. But yes he was and is a saint. And so are you Fraser. Yes u can be a saint and be in the flesh. The criteria is 3 miracles minimum. Tim changed the world. Fraser has changed the world. To do that counts as 1000 miracles. Many try. Hardly anyone is able to do it for good. Takes a lot of courage. Your writing is superb.

The awful events of 9/11/01 in the USA have had a
deep and pernicious effect on the body politic in the US, and
elsewhere. We oppose the calamitous invasions of
Iraq,
Afghanistan & the ongoing
'War on
Terror' from an anti-imperialist (and
anti-capitalist) position. Be that as it may, our remit here
is not specifically those matters - many activists are already on the
case internationally, and we commend them for that. Our efforts are
complementary, not competitive.Five years on, the '9/11 Truth Cult' (our term) is growing, a development that troubles us. Not because we dislike uncomfortable questions being asked of the powerful. On the contrary, we at Notes From the Borderland (NFB) magazine have been doing cutting edge parapolitical research since 1997, and individually before that. Our record of evidence-based research into covert state/ruling class activity plus an expertise in fringe politics qualifies us, we feel, to sound the alarm now. Precisely because we are committed to rigorous analytical research and related political intervention NFB is speaking out.
WHY THE 9/11
TRUTH CULT BOTHERS US
1) They act
like a cult, and an aggressive one.
The unannounced 9/11 Truth meeting at the October 2005 Anarchist Bookfair
in London was marked by physical violence (jostling and digging critics
in the ribs), concerted attempts to drown out critics and a nasty
intimidatory atmosphere overall. While veterans of sharp
exchanges, even we have been taken aback by the
volume and vitriolic nature of the
abusive email exchanges coming our way from this cult.2) A growing distaste at bizarre conspiracy theories the 9/11 cult propagate, in particular anti-semitism . Claims that 9/11 was a 'Zionist' conspiracy are two-a-penny - yet we rarely hear the phrase 'Saudi conspiracy' with far more evidence for such.
Lurking in the wings are the usual racist snake-oil salesmen (or in David Icke's case lizards) eager to blame the 'Jews'. The venomous & often anti-semitic reaction to criticism by Jewish journalist Jon Ronson in November 2006 exemplifies this. A relevant subtext is the sheer disbelief non-US citizens could have organised 9/11 without US government assistance - racism by another (subtle) name.
3) Revulsion at the fact that increasingly (or intrinsically) ludicrous theories put about by the 9/11 cult have the effect of letting spooks and others responsible off the hook in terms of accounting for their activities. In this category come arguments that no planes hit the World Trade Centre (or Pentagon) - instead it was holograms/ missiles/pre-placed explosives. This imputes omniscient powers to the state in terms of carrying out operations effectively! Amid the fog of 'hologram' hoaxes and other fruitloopery, secret state agencies and governments can thus evade hard questions - about why the Pakistani ISI head transferred $100,000 to 9/11 pilot Mohammed Atta, or inadequate emergency procedures in New York & London. NFB has a particular interest in retaining, and enlarging, the space for radical 'parapolitical' analysis of state malfeasance - and are concerned growing fruitcake influence chokes off the space for publicising actual real-life scandals which 9/11 cultists are indifferent to.
4) Fundamentally, the 9/11 & 7/7 cults have a pernicious effect on political discourse. By focussing primarily on a small group of decision-makers in a predominantly ahistorical way, they serve to trivialise, and disempower the very popular masses that are ultimately the agents of radical social change - if that is to happen.

Some US comrades have correctly described 9/11 conspiracy obsessives as examples of "arrested radicalisation." It is true many now drawn towards the 9/11 & 7/7 cults would in the past have become Leftists - and it is vital the Left/Greens do not ignore the genuine issues posed by 9/11 - but as supplementary to political practice, not substituting for it.
Ultimately, the 9/11 obsession of many people outside the US is not a manifestation of critical thought, but cultural and political subordination to the US - whereby events there are considered more important than equivalents in the rest of the world. A post-Cold War echo of Soviet Union worship. Earlier Al-Qaeda attacks like the 1998 Nairobi US Embassy bombing get barely a look in, conspiracy-wise. Not just because most killed (213 dead/4,600 injured) were non-white , but the carnage took place outside the imperial (US) heartland.
