New Security Plan: Ring Baghdad With Trenches
The Iraqi government plans to seal off Baghdad next month
by ringing it with a series of trenches and setting up dozens of traffic checkpoints
to control movement in and out of the city of seven million people,
an Interior Ministry spokesman said on Friday.
The 60 mile perimeter would have 28 checkpoints where searches would take place.

world not changed
(yet) by 9/11
that’s the gut wrenching pity of it all!
the ‘Roman Xtian’ dinosaur class was in power. it reacted in the inevitable and only way it knows. their looting of the muslim world had caused the revenge/warning attack in the first place. and their reflex reaction to 9/11 of vastly increasing that terror has dug the virus in deeper.
that’s pretty much all that’s happened so far on the public political stage.
dinos know no other way, and can only continue until they’ve stirred up a true clash of civilisations. THIS MUCH IS CLEAR AND UNDERSTOOD.
they see it as a war. we see it as a danger of war.
for a tectonic shift has also been initiated within human-bonobo culture, of the west and of the planet, which is yet to fully surface onto the public stage. to mention a single sign of this, take a poll in the UK this last week that only 12% of brits now think the world is a safer place.
so what is this shift? it is, very simply and basically (which is what paradigm shifts are) that The People are finally being allowed to see where the dinosaur attitude actually leads… and to see that it has always led there! this was the first Major Invasion in which everyone knew from the outset that a large percentage of the population were against it. and so the 2 views have been clearly on the table for all to see, and to judge the developments.
well, 88% of the UK pop thinks it has made the planet a more dangerous place. pretty simple and clear, right?
so what perception shifts have occurred in the vast majority of the planet’s pop?
a primary part is seeing how the dinos’ victims (now and, by inference, in the past) are pushed and pushed and pushed into, finally, desperately violent blowback and deadlier and deadlier counter religions. face it, if all your political and social ideals are trashed all your life you will be forced into one or both of 2 directions: into violence and/or self-justifying religiosity. even a baby dino could see that! and more injustice more resistance.
taking the longer view of History, i personally am reassured by the strength of the human spirit to resist injustice. george orwell’s pessimistic picture of the human face being ground forever into the dust turns out not to be true! in reality, people finally fight back! if their methods, when they finally do, break all moral rules then it’s a mirror image of where the Beast has pushed them, for they too were once innocent.
let’s face it. the Great Beast, the Anti-Christ predicted and produced by a mad Xtianity, is reaching for Total Domination in All Spectra. were it not for the (unpredicted) radical resistance in the middle east, south america and in human minds generally, the original Hippy vision of the Global Village would already be Planet CorporateCity®, a sub market of Intergalactic Unisexual Yuppyland, with ownership consolidated in the hands of a tiny global elite. but they have refused to take up their prescribed roles. it’s not going to happen.
anyway, so hopeful have the signs been recently that i judged it would be a good idea to reintroduce the argument how to end terrorism at a single stroke which i once used as my signature on all outgoing mail. though i sensed that it would seem over the top to a lot of people then, i sense it won’t seem so now. see what you think. you might even remember it. do we need to let another 5 years pass before we face up to it and change direction?
how to end terrorism
at a single stroke
an apology & solution offered to all arabs
to end their defensive jihad terrorism
by a citizen of the west fraser clark. 2003.
WE WHO CALL FOR PEACE MUST OFFER MORE THAN JUST THE HOPE
THAT THE PROBLEM WILL GO AWAY. PEACE IS A RESULT, NOT A SOLUTION!
IT IS THE RESULT OF ACTIONS TAKEN TO RESOLVE A PROBLEM.
TO END DEFENSIVE JIHAD TERRORISM WE MUST IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM,
THEN DEAL WITH THE CAUSES.
AND IN A VERY OPEN, PUBLIC WAY SO THAT EVERYONE REALISES WHAT IS HAPPENING.
THE PROBLEM/PEACE SOLUTIONS
1. Except where we are able to admit our own far far worse & far far longer term terrorism, we must abandon the concept of terrorism, which is a tactic, not a belief.
”The killers are those who kill - and that includes our pilots as well as their bombers. We don't want to kill civilians, but we know that our wars will do that, and death does not come more pleasantly or less painfully because the victims are killed by the supposedly benevolent West rather than the supposedly cruel East. Now we are beginning to pay the price”. Robert Fisk
2. al-Queda leaders have made very clear all along that they are fighting a defensive jihad, the only one permitted by islam - the kind Saladin fought successfully against the Christian crusades. Indeed, as I read Mohamed’s words, such action is obligatory on all muslims when the Faith / Faithful are under attack. (about which there is no debate!). Once a defensive jihad has been declared, aggressive attacks on the Enemy become permitted, even required.
(if your response is “THEY’RE ATTACKING US!”, then ask yourself how many arab soldiers are positioned in your country. And if u say, after all this, that our military were invited in by some MEGA FAT QUISLING SHEIKH ON THE TAKE, then I say u r a baboon :)) Not to mince words, such ignorance is a geometrically accelerating danger to me and to all people and bonobos on this planet.
3. We ALREADY KNOW against what those thousands of terrorists and hundreds of thousands of supporters are defending. And their demands are eminently reasonable:
THE PROBLEM/PEACE RESOLUTIONS
A. REMOVAL OF ALL FOREIGN TROOPS FROM ARAB LANDS (except UN).
B. IMPOSITION OF A UN AGREED PEACE SETTLEMENT AROUND ISRAEL’S BORDERS. (militarily if necessarily, and for as long as required - like Yugoslavia).
These are an absolute minimum, are eminently reasonable, would already stop the massive spread of terrorism in its tracks, and would save hundreds (possibly hundreds of thousands?) of western lives over the next decade. And untold billions of bucks. We probably by now spend more on security than we save on controlling the oil price. Meanwhile the withdrawn personnel and equipment should be put to protecting our own homelands and borders, and helping with the growing effects of global warming.
C. FINANCIAL COMPENSATION FOR ALL FORCED CONTRACTS AND CRIMES AGAINST THEM, AND A SIMULTANEOUS CANCELLATION OF ALL WORLD DEBT (for the same reasons - and lets pray the Africans and the Indians will be more understanding than the Arabs!)
Removing soldiers and settling the Israel question only delivers a level playing field, it would not be nearly enough to compensate for all the looting and bullying terrorism we have practised on their civilisation over the centuries and since the discovery of oil.
What’s fundamentally required is not some begrudging inch-by-inch retreat but a Magnificent Public Gesture to show Sincerity and Contrition (far better than having it forced on us at a later date when SOME terrorism continued to develop). The establishing of a fair market price for oil would be an excellent step in this general direction - say double what we’ve allowed so far?
The above actions (or UN promises to implement) would, at a single stroke or in several steps,
i] cut off the religious base of the jihad
ii] answer the political grievances
iii] resolve the economic crimes
They would thus drain the massively spawning community of fanatics of public support, the planet would be perceived by all its inhabitants to be on a proper and fair evolutionary path at last, the terrorism problem would begin to wither on the vine, and surprisingly quickly the present problem would be looked back on as having been little more than a learning curve on humanity’s progress towards global participative democracy.
Obviously none of this can begin to happen till the dinosaurs have finally been shrugged onto the Fossil Record, with the name George Bush consigned to History as the planet’s Last Great Bogyman & Schmuck. Sounds about right to me :) “Hush little one, or George Bush will get you.”

** LETTER OF THE WEEK ***
Back On The UP! List
Hi Fraser, it is wonderful to be back on the list of those privileged enough to be mailed UP! as it's published.
Since my last computer upgrade a year ago I have been slightly dejected by the fact that I wasn't being a favoured recipient any more, in spite of having all the same email addresses as before.
I have had to satisfy my addiction to the Parallel world by visiting the website when my instinct told me it was time to check for the latest UP! Had to get my fix of Fraser!
Well, my loyalty has been rewarded at last and I've been returned to the fold... back in from the cold… and it is cold out here in manmade land... the people amongst whom I dwell are lost in a fantasy they call reality… but here in the small doses of thinkability that power the UP!, another view is recognised... or, more correctly, accepted as having a pervasive and permanent existence.
It is a view that is absent from the elites who rule the dung heap and preside over evil as a result of their chosen ignorance of it.
It is a view absent from those who pervert their own cause with violence and justify murder in the name of some imagined freedom or right, some "ism" or perceived slight to their unquestioned assumptions.
It is a view that is clearly absent from the hearts of mac-munching, litter dropping 4x4 drivers and all the other selfish little fat tribes that have bred from the affluence dripping down on them from the product shitting behemoth of capitalism. The masses are frantically gorging themselves on the excrement of this monster as it bestrides and devours the earth with it's insatiable appetite for the exploitation of natural resources and its endless production of ephemeral filth.
It is a view blinded from the eyes of the heedless morons who scream blue murder if some obstacle to their intentions of sitting down to watch celebrity crap island unexpectedly occurs.
It is a view being marginalised by the mealy mouthed mainstream media and denied denied denied by the consumer culture in order to sustain it's own illusions.
In short, the vast majority of the population are living in a dream and it's a nightmare!
Thing is tho, they can't see it... but we can... it's their dream because they all think it’s what makes them happy... but it's our nightmare cos we and the earth suffer daily, from and by, the consequences of their stupidity.
Look at the comedy of errors going on in government circles and look at the tragedies their policy lunacies have already put in train...
Yes people are disillusioned, yes people are angry... but boy are they impenetrably IGNORANT of what’s really going on!
I'm shit scared of what is going to happen to them (and us) when the panaceas run out, the nannies milk dries up, and the bubbles burst...
So, to be reassured that others see the new world dinosaur disorder and know what it's doing but CAN stay UP and keep DANCING… proves the SPIRIT is ALIVE in us... keep spreading the words Fraser, even if you are preaching to the psychedelically converted, it strengthens us... thanks for including me in again!

Physics Could Be Turned On Its Head
Physics could be turned on its head by a monster machine that can make black holes and may provide the first real evidence that extra dimensions exist.
The circular-shaped Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the biggest machine ever built and cost in excess of £4.26 billion. Measuring 27km across, it sits 100m below the French-Swiss border. The machine has just one purpose, to collide beams of high energy protons and recreate conditions that existed less than a billionth of a second after the Big Bang at the dawn of creation.
Scientists have no idea what they will find when it starts smashing elementary particles together next year at energies never reached before.
One possibility is that it will create Higgs particles, which some theorists think may be involved in giving objects mass.
It might also verify Professor Stephen Hawking's theory that black holes "evaporate" over time, or produce mysterious "dark matter".
But physicists are most excited about the prospect of finding the "fingerprints" of other dimensions.
If that happened, it would lead to the biggest upheaval in physics since an apple bounced off Sir Isaac Newton's head and got him wondering about gravity.
Alternatives to the "Standard Model" that describes universe's particles and forces, such as String Theory, require more than the 3 familiar spatial dimensions of length, breadth and height. Some call for 11 or more dimensions, which may be tightly curled up and hidden from our world.
But these theories are founded on nothing but complex arithmetic. The LHC could provide the first solid evidence that one or more really do reflect the nature of reality.
http://news.uk.msn.com/Article.aspx?cp-documentid=882185
On the other hand, some are worried about what might happen.
"The LHC will create a physical realm that’s unknown, and dangerous phenomena might arise” said CERN spectrometer software developer Ron Linveh.
"This From the LHC site: 'According to some theoretical models, tiny black holes could be produced in collisions at the LHC. They would then very quickly decay into what is known as Hawking radiation (the tinier the black hole, the faster it evaporates) which would be detected by experiments.'
"This is but one example. Any physicist will tell you that there is no way to prove that generated black holes will decay! The consequences of being mistaken are unfathomable."

Gardner envisions a final state of the cosmos in which a highly evolved form of group intelligence -- a cosmic community -- marshals the assets of matter and energy bequeathed by the Big Bang to engineer a cosmic renewal: the birth of a new baby universe endowed with the same life-giving propensity that our cosmos enjoys.

Minds Beyond Brains:
RECENT EXPERIMENTAL EVIDENCE
Rupert Sheldrake, Ph.D.
Where are our minds located? We have been brought up to believe they are inside our heads, that mental activity is nothing but brain activity. Instead, I suggest that our minds extend far beyond our brains; they stretch out through fields that link us to our environment and to each other.
Mental fields are rooted in brains, just as magnetic fields around magnets are rooted in the magnets themselves, or just as the fields of transmission around mobile phones are rooted in the phones and their internal electrical activities. As magnetic fields extend around magnets, and electromagnetic fields around mobile phones, so mental fields extend around brains.
Mental fields help to explain telepathy, the sense of being stared at, and other widespread but unexplained abilities. Above all, mental fields underlie normal perception. They are an essential part of vision.
Images Outside Our Heads
Look around you now. Are the images of what you see inside your brain? Or are they outside you - just where they seem to be?
According to the conventional theory, there is a one-way process: light moves in, but nothing is projected out. The inward movement of light is familiar enough. As you look at this page, reflected light moves from the page through the electromagnetic field into your eyes. The lenses of your eyes focus the light to form upside-down images on your retinas. This light falling on your retinal rod and cone cells causes electrical changes within them, which trigger off patterned changes in the nerves of the retina. Nerve impulses move up your optic nerves and into the brain, where they give rise to complex patterns of electrical and chemical activity. So far, so good. All these processes can be, and have been, studied in great detail by neurophysiologists and other experts on vision and brain activity.
But then something very mysterious happens. You consciously experience what you are seeing, the page in front of you. You also become conscious of the printed words and their meanings. From the point of view of the standard theory, there is no reason why you should be conscious at all. Brain mechanisms ought to go on just as well without consciousness.
Then comes a further problem. When you see this page, you do not experience your image of it as being inside your brain, where it is supposed to be. Instead, you experience its image as being located about two feet in front of you. The image is outside your body.
For all its physiological sophistication, the standard theory has no explanation for your most immediate and direct experience. All your experience is supposed to be inside your brain, a kind of virtual reality show inside your head. That means your skull must lie beyond everything you are seeing: if you look at the sky, your skull must be beyond the sky! This seems an absurd idea, but it seems to be a necessary implication of the mind-in-brain theory.
The idea I am proposing is so simple that it is hard to grasp. Your image of this page is just where it seems to be, in front of your eyes, not behind your eyes. It is not inside your brain, but outside your brain.
Thus vision involves both an inward movement of light, and an outward projection of images. Through mental fields our minds reach out to touch what we are looking at. If we look at a mountain ten miles away, our minds stretch out ten miles. If we gaze at distant stars our minds reach out into the heavens, over literally astronomical distances
The Sense Of Being Stared At
Sometimes when I look at someone from behind, he or she turns and looks straight at me. And sometimes I suddenly turn around and find someone staring at me. Surveys show that more than 90% of people have had experiences such as these. The sense of being stared at should not occur if attention is all inside the head. But if it stretches out and links us to what we are looking at, then our looking could affect what we look at. Is it just an illusion, or does the sense of being stared at really exist?
This question can be explored through simple, inexpensive experiments. People work in pairs. One person, the subject, sits with his or her back to the other, wearing a blind-fold. The other person, the looker, sits behind the subject, and in a random series of trials either looks at the subject's neck, or looks away and thinks of something else. The beginning of each trial is signalled by a mechanical clicker or bleeper. Each trial lasts about ten seconds and the subject guesses out loud "looking" or "not looking". Detailed instructions are given on my website, http://www.sheldrake.org.
More than 100,000 trials have now been carried out, and the results are overwhelmingly positive and hugely significant statistically. The sense of being stared at even works when people are looked at through closed-circuit TV. Animals are also sensitive to being looked at by people, and people by animals. This sensitivity to looks seems widespread in the animal kingdom and may well have evolved in the context of predator-prey relationships: an animal that sensed when an unseen predator was staring would stand a better chance of surviving than an animal without this sense.
Telepathy
Educated people have been brought up to believe that telepathy does not exist. Like other so-called psychic phenomena, it is dismissed as an illusion.
Most people who espouse these opinions, which I used to myself, do not do so on the basis of a close examination of the evidence. They do so because there is a taboo against taking telepathy seriously. This taboo is related to the prevailing paradigm or model of reality within institutional science, namely the mind-inside-the-brain theory, according to which telepathy and other psychic phenomena, which seem to imply mysterious kinds of 'action at a distance', cannot possibly exist.
This taboo dates back at least as far as the Enlightenment at the end of the eighteenth century. But this is not the place to examine its history (which I discuss in The Sense of Being Stared At). Rather I want to summarise some recent experiments, which suggest that telepathy not only exists, but that it is a normal part of animal communication.
Psychic Pets
I first became interested in the subject of telepathy some 15 years ago, and started looking at evidence for telepathy in the animals we know best, namely pets. I soon came across numerous stories from owners of dogs, cats, parrots, horses and other animals that suggested that these animals seemed able to read their minds and intentions.
Through public appeals I have built up a large database of such stories, currently containing more than 5,000 case histories. These stories fall into several categories. For example, many cat owners say that their animals seem to sense when they are planning to take them to the vet, even before they have taken out the carrying basket or given any apparent clue as to their intention. Some people say their dogs know when they are going to be taken for a walk, even when they are in a different room, out of sight or hearing, and when the person is merely thinking about taking them for a walk. Of course, no one finds this behaviour surprising if it happens at a routine time, or if the dogs see the person getting ready to go out, or hear the word "walk". They think it is telepathic because it seems to happen in the absence of such clues.
One of the commonest and most testable claims about dogs and cats is that they know when their owners are coming home. Through hundreds of videotaped experiments, my colleagues and I have shown that dogs react to their owners' intentions to come home even when they are many miles away, even when they return at randomly-chosen times, and even when they travel in unfamiliar vehicles such as taxis. Telepathy seems the only hypothesis that can account for the facts.
Telephone Telepathy
In the course of my research on unexplained powers of animals, I heard of dozens of dogs and cats that seemed to anticipate telephone calls from their owners. For example, when the telephone rings in the household of a noted professor at the University of California at Berkeley, his wife knows when her husband is on the other end of the line because Whiskins, their silver tabby cat, rushes to the telephone and paws at the receiver. "Many times he succeeds in taking it off the hook and makes appreciative meows that are clearly audible to my husband at the other end", she says. "If someone else telephones, Whiskins takes no notice." The cat responds even when he telephones home from field trips in Africa or South America.
This led me to reflect that I myself had had this kind of experience, in that I had thought of people for no apparent reason who, shortly thereafter, called. I asked my family and friends if they had ever had this experience, and I soon found the majority were very familiar with it. Some said they knew when their mother or boyfriend or other significant person was calling because the phone sounded different!
Through extensive surveys, my colleagues and I have found that the most people have had seemingly telepathic experiences with telephone calls. Indeed this is the commonest kind of apparent telepathy in the modern world.
Is this all a matter of coincidence, and selective memory, whereby people only remember when someone they were thinking about rang, and forget all the times they were wrong? Most sceptics assume that this is the case, but until recently there had never been any scientific research on the subject at all.
I have developed a simple experiment to test for telephone telepathy. Participants receive a call from one of four different callers at a prearranged time, and they themselves choose the callers, usually close friends or family members. For each test, the caller is picked at random by the experimenter by throwing a die. The participant has to say who the caller is before the caller says anything. If people were just guessing, they would be right about one time in four, or 25% of the time.
We have so far conducted more than 800 such trials, and the average success rate is 42%, very significantly above the chance level of 25%, with astronomical odds against chance (1026 to 1).
We have also carried out a series of trials in which two of the four callers were familiar, while the other two were strangers, whose names the participants knew, but whom they had not met. With familiar callers, the success rate was 56 %, highly significant statistically. With strangers it was at the chance level, in agreement with the observation that telepathy typically takes place between people who share emotional or social bonds.
In addition, we have found that these effects do not fall off with distance. Some of our participants were from Australia or New Zealand, and they could identify who was calling just as well as with people down under as with people only a few miles away.
Extended Minds
Laboratory studies by parapsychologists have already provided significant statistical evidence for telepathy (well reviewed by Dean Radin in his book The Conscious Universe, Harper, San Francisco, 1997). But most laboratory research has given rather weak effects, probably because most participants and "senders" were strangers to each other, and telepathy normally depends on social bonds.
The results of telephone telepathy experiments give much stronger and more repeatable effects because they involve people who know each other well. I have also found that there are striking telepathic links between nursing mothers and their babies. Likewise, the telepathic reactions of pets to their owners depend on strong social bonds.
I suggest that these bonds are aspects of the fields that link together members of social groups (which I call morphic fields) and which act as channels for the transfer of information between separated members of the group.
Telepathy literally means "distant feeling", and typically involves the communication of needs, intentions and distress. Sometimes the telepathic reactions are experienced as feelings, sometimes as visions or the hearing of voices, and sometimes in dreams. Many people and pets have reacted when people they are bonded to have had an accident, or are dying, even if this is happening many miles away.
There is an analogy for this process in quantum physics: if two particles have been part of the same quantum system and are separated in space, they retain a mysterious connectedness. When Einstein first realised this implication of quantum theory, he thought quantum theory must be wrong because it implied what he called a "spooky action at a distance". Experiments have shown that quantum theory is right and Einstein wrong. A change in one separated part of a system can affect another instantaneously. This phenomenon is known as quantum non-locality or non-separability.
Telepathy, like the sense of being stared at, is only paranormal if we define as "normal" the theory that the mind is confined to the brain. But if our minds reach out beyond our brains, just as they seem to, and connect with other minds, just as they seem to, then phenomena like telepathy and the sense of being stared at seem normal. They are part of our biological nature.
Of course, I am not saying that the brain is irrelevant to our understanding of the mind. It is very relevant, and recent advances in brain research have much to tell us. Our minds are centred in our bodies, and in our brains in particular. However, that they are not confined to our brains, but extend beyond them. This extension occurs through the fields of the mind, or mental fields, which exist both within and beyond our brains.
The idea of the extended mind makes better sense of our experience than the mind-in-brain theory. Above all, it liberates us. We are no longer imprisoned within the narrow compass of our skulls, our minds separated and isolated from each other. We are no longer alienated from our bodies, from our environment and from other people. We are interconnected.

REPORT FROM THE FRONT LINE:
This Year’s Burning Man Festival
Like most of these large events, it has it’s own unique flavour. What may distinguish it from festivals in other parts of the world, primarily, is the survival issue. The twin pillars of BM are radical self-reliance and radical self-expression, and the self-reliance part is the thing that always has to be on your mind whenever you have a party in a place as unforgiving as the Black Rock Desert. The harsh conditions, and the very large and spectacular art installations, are the two main features that strike me most about the experience.
With the exception of a dust devil that hit my camp and wiped out my shade structure, I had a relatively easy time of it this year. In fact, after sleeping on the ground at BM for a week, I’ve found it hard to get to sleep in my more comfortable bed since returning home . . . go figure.
This year was our 4th year on the playa with the Palenque Norte lectures, which were held in the big tent at Entheon Village. In just 4 days’ time we hosted 39 speakers who discussed psychedelic medicines from several different points of view: safety, research, culture, and the future. We had standing room only crowds that numbered in the hundreds for the Shulgins, Erik Davis, Daniel Pinchbeck, Jon Hanna and an art panel that featured Roberto Venosa, Martina Hoffman, Allyson Grey, and Alex Grey. Over the course of the next couple of months I plan on podcasting most of these talks in my Psychedelic Salon series.
I’ve posted a few of my photos of this year’s festival at http://matrixmasters.org/pix/main.php?g2_itemId=3262 . . . but you can find a lot better ones by Googling “burning man 2006” (no quotes).
However, even videos don’t come close to giving you a feeling of what it’s like to be there, totally immersed in 24 x 7 dance music, chatter, and dust. Unless someone feels a really strong compulsion to attend a burn, my advice is to stay home or go to one of the other great festivals where you don’t have to worry so much about simply staying alive. (The only things for sale at BM are coffee and ice. All else must be carried in AND OUT, even your dirty water!)
But if you’re a little off centre, like me, well, I look forward to seeing you there next year . . . I’m already making plans to go back. . . I only wish I could give you a single good reason why. Burning Man is weird that way.
All LOVE,
Lorenzo Hagerty, matrixmasters.com.

Rockefeller: Bush Duped Public On Iraq
After 2 1/2 years of reviewing pre-war intelligence behind closed doors, the lead Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, Senator John Rockefeller of West Virginia, who voted for the Iraq War, says the Bush administration pulled the wool over everyone's eyes.

Until The Cuffs Go On
Play Like You’re The Good Guys
Steve Bhaerman / Swami Beyondananda
To understand why this Administration is still in power - and why their hold on power is more tenuous than we might imagine - I refer you to the Enron movie, The Smartest Guys in the Room.
If you saw that movie, you’ll remember that the two criminal perpetrators, Ken Lay and Jeffrey Skilling continued to play the role of law-abiding citizens until the very second the handcuffs were snapped on.
Handcuffs on, ballgame over. But until that moment they stayed completely in their disguise.
The Bush Administration seems fearless in its pursuit of abusive power and yet there is one thing that terrifies them beyond measure: the truth. No regime in American history has been more afraid of the truth, and for good reason. Any one of the lies can unravel and the whole ball of yarn can get unspun. That is why they are so fierce in not only keeping everything they can secret, but in churning out new lies constantly to make sure the truth-seekers don’t gain on them.
As with every abuser of power, sooner or later the inevitable happens. With no check and no balance, the abuser finally goes too far. See if you can spot it.

These 9/11 Conspiracy Nuts
by Andrew Cockburn
You trip over one fundamental idiocy of the 9/11 conspiracy nuts in the very first paragraph of the book by one of their high priests, David Ray Griffin, The New Pearl Harbor.
"In many respects," Griffin writes, "the strongest evidence provided by critics of the official account involves the events of 9/11 itself.... In light of standard procedures for dealing with hijacked airplanes... not one of these planes should have reached its target, let alone all three of them."
The operative word here is "should." One central characteristic of the nuts is that they have a devout, albeit preposterous, belief in American efficiency, and hence many of them start with the racist premise that "Arabs in caves" weren't capable of the mission.
>> this is my own hunch. while i can’t and don’t reject the theory, it does seem to me to fit in with an american obsession with ruling the world to the point that everything is seen as being done by america, i have no problem at all with believing that angry arabs did it. indeed it was expecting such retaliation long long before it happened.
They believe that military systems work the way Pentagon press flacks and aerospace salesmen say they should work. They believe that at 8:14 am, when AA Flight 11 switched off its radio and transponder, an FAA flight controller should have called the National Military Command centre and NORAD. They believe, citing reverently (this from high priest Griffin) "the US Air Force's own website," that an F-15 could have intercepted AA Flight 11 "by 8:24, and certainly no later than 8:30."
They appear to have read no military history, which is too bad because if they had they'd know that minutely planned operations - let alone responses to an unprecedented emergency - screw up with monotonous regularity, by reason of stupidity, cowardice, venality and other whims of Providence.
According to the minutely prepared plans of the Strategic Air Command, an impending Soviet attack would have prompted the missile silos in North Dakota to open and the ICBMs to arc toward Moscow and kindred targets. The tiny number of test launches actually attempted all failed, whereupon SAC gave up testing. Was it badly designed equipment, human incompetence, defence contractor venality or... conspiracy? Did the April 24, 1980, effort to rescue the hostages in the US Embassy in Tehran fail because a sandstorm disabled 3 of the 8 helicopters, or because agents of William Casey poured sugar into their gas tanks in yet another conspiracy?
Do the military's varying attempts to explain why F-15s didn't intercept and shoot down the hijacked planes stem from predictable attempts to cover up the usual screw-ups, or because of conspiracy? Is Mr. Cohen in his little store at the end of the block hiking his prices because he wants to make a buck, or because his rent just went up, or because the Jews want to take over the world? Bebel said anti-Semitism is the socialism of fools. These days the 9/11 conspiracy fever is fast becoming the "socialism" of the left.
>> me, i’ve already been accused more than once of “putting out The Man’s propaganda” :)
My in-box overflows each day with fresh "proofs" of how the towers were demolished. I meet people who start quietly, asking me what I think about 9/11. What they are actually trying to find out is whether I'm part of the coven. I imagine it is like being a normal Stoic in the second century AD going for a stroll in the forum and meeting some fellow asking, with seeming casualness, whether it's possible to feed 5,000 people on five loaves of bread and a couple of fish.
Indeed, at my school the vicar used to urge on us Frank Morison's book Who Moved the Stone? It demonstrated, with exhaustive citation from the Gospels, that since on these accounts no human had moved the stone from in front of Joseph of Arimathea's tomb, it must have been an angel who rolled it aside, so Jesus could exit, astonish the mourners and then ascend. Of course, Morison didn't allow the possibility that angels never existed or that the Gospel writers were making it up.
It's the same pattern with the 9/11 nuts. There are photos of the impact of the "object" that hit the Pentagon - i.e., the Boeing 757, Flight 77 - that seem to show the sort of hole a missile might make. Ergo, it was a missile and a 757 didn't hit the Pentagon. As regards the hole, my brother Andrew - writing a book about Rumsfeld - has seen photos taken within thirty minutes of impact clearly showing the outline of an entire plane, including wings. This was visible as soon as the smoke blew away.
And if it was a missile, what happened to the 757? Did the conspirators shoot it down somewhere else, or force it down and then kill the passengers? Why plan to demolish the towers with pre-placed explosives if your conspiracy includes control of the two planes that hit them? Why bother with the planes at all? Why blame Osama if your fall guy is Saddam Hussein?
>> now there’s a point i never though of!
The demolition scenario is classic who-moved-the-stonery. The towers didn't fall because they were badly built as a consequence of corruption, incompetence, regulatory evasions by the Port Authority and because they were struck by huge planes loaded with jet fuel. No, they collapsed because Dick Cheney's agents methodically planted demolition charges in the preceding days. It was a conspiracy of thousands, all of whom - party to mass murder - have held their tongues ever since.
>> yes, this is the nut of the thing. a well organised conspiracy involves as few in the know as possible. the conspiracy theories involve far more than anyone in their right senses would ever have involved.
Of course, the buildings didn't suddenly pancake. People inside who survived the collapse didn't hear a series of explosions. As discussed in Wayne Barrett and Dan Collins's marvellous Grand Illusion, about Rudy Giuliani and 9/11, helicopter pilots radioed warnings 9 minutes before the final collapse of the South Tower that it might well go down, and similar warnings, repeatedly, as much as 25 minutes before the North Tower's fall.
What Barrett and Collins brilliantly show are the actual corrupt conspiracies on Giuliani's watch (see also http://thenation.com/doc/20060925/barrett>); the favoritism to Motorola, which saddled the firemen with radios that didn't work; the ability of the Port Authority to scrimp on fire protection; the mayor's catastrophic failure in the years before 9/11 to organize an effective emergency command, meaning that many lives could have been saved, cops and firemen could have communicated and firemen could have heard the helicopter warnings and the Mayday messages that saved most of the police.
That's the real world, in which Giuliani and others have never been held accountable.
Instead, the conspiracy nuts have combined to produce a ludicrous distraction.

Plankton To Provide Clean New Oil
Inter Press Service News Agency (IPS)
A system for producing energy from marine algae, to replace fossil fuels and reduce pollution, has been developed by Spanish researchers and will be operational in late 2007, according to its backers.
Bernard Stroiazzo-Mougin, president of Biofuel Systems SL (BFS), the Spanish company developing the project, says that "the system will produce massive amounts of bio-petroleum from phytoplankton, in a limited space and at a very moderate cost."
On pointing out that biodiesel is already being produced in other countries, the executive explained that the photo-bioreactor to be produced by his company is not the same thing. BFS, with the support of the University of Alicante, "has designed a totally new system for producing bio-petroleum -- not biodiesel -- by means of an energy converter," he explained.
The new fuel will have all the advantages of petroleum, including the possibility of extracting the usual oil derivatives, "but without its disadvantages, because it will not contribute to CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions, but will in fact reduce them. It will not emit SO2 (sulphur dioxide) and there will be hardly any toxic by-products."
The raw material for the new fuel is phytoplankton -- tiny oceanic plants -- that are photoautotrophic, depending only on light and CO2 for their food. Among them are diatoms, a group of unicellular algae, also found in fresh water and land masses, and on moist ground. Phytoplankton produces 98 % of the oxygen in the earth's atmosphere.
According to Stroiazzo-Mougin, BFS's system will produce 400 times more oil than any other source of biofuel. For example, he said, "a surface area of 52,000 sq km can yield 95 mm barrels of bio-petroleum per day, in other words an amount equivalent to the entire world production of crude oil at present, and at a considerably lower price."
The system, he added, will ensure a permanent, inexhaustible source of energy, which also uses up excess CO2, thus helping to curb the greenhouse effect and global warming, of which CO2 is one of the main causes.
In order to replace 40% of the world's present consumption of petroleum with biodiesel from plant sources, the area of land currently under cultivation would have to be multiplied by three, which is "totally impossible and counterproductive for the global economy," Stroiazzo-Mougin said.
BFS's new fuel will be similar to the fossil petroleum that was formed "millions of years ago under immense pressure and temperature and in the context of great seismic and volcanic activity, starting from the same plant elements that we will be using now (mainly phytoplankton)," he explained. It was "biodegradation of certain plant organic compounds (fatty acids and hydrocarbons) that gave rise to petroleum, and our system will be similar to that process," the president of BFS added.
With respect to the surface areas needed to produce biofuels, he indicated that soya produces 50 cm per sq km per year, colza (rape seed) produces 100 to 140 cm, mustard yields 130 and palm oil 610 cm, while algae produce 10,000 to 20,000 cm of biofuel per sq km per year.
BFS is also planning to develop technology to increase production of algae per hectare, before completing construction of its first factory, to be located on Spain's Mediterranean coast. Production will occur in a closed circuit including vats on land, although there are plans to develop processors offshore.
Asked whether BFS will be offering the formula and processing system to other countries, whether they will forge alliances with other companies, or sell the patent, or whether it will all be free, Stroiazzo-Mougin replied that "all these aspects are being carefully studied, from the point of view of the commercial structure of the company… Because of the importance of the system, these are aspects that must be analysed in depth, and we do not have an answer as yet".
Stroiazzo-Mougin emphasised that the process would markedly lower CO2 emissions and that no other toxic substances would be released, as explained by the chemists and marine biologists who participated in the research project.

hi Fraser,
I occasionally find time to read your musings - some really inspiring.
Did you know that Bennett, Gurdjieff's successor, joined Subud, after he met Bapak?
He was convinced, that the Subud Latihan is what Gurdjieff was trying to find...
Many old Gurdjieff members are now in Subud....
If you want to read more, check our web site (based on my text draft)

>> know plenty about bennett. didn't know subud was still going. i guess everything does, eh?
in the '60s in london half of our group were doing latihans and the other were in G.
i once complained (sort of) to krishnamurthi that the other half seemed to have all the fun and colour and what we were getting was more like pure water. i think he more or less agreed :) indeed my gurdjieff teacher in the '60s, when we asked, said G was for the strong and Subud was for the weak. he wasn't putting anyone down as everyone beyond that were asleep plain and simple :)
my closest friend just rejoined the gurdjieff groups in london. he reports that they've evolved a lot, much more open, catholic all that.
ps: I am also inspired and try to create time to organise my inspirations - hardly any time to read what others write...

Dear Fraser,
It is my opinion that Dr. Timothy Leary worked for the United States CIA. Timothy used his position to both experiment with LSD and more importantly, he distributed LSD to the masses in order to destabilise the Civil Rights Movement and the Anti-War Movement (Vietnam). The controllers in US government did not realise the total LSD effect. Things got out of hand.
I recommend the book: "Acid Dreams" by Lee and Schlain (sp?).
Wilson Leary
>> well you're just wrong, wilson, that's all. praps 2 close?
i think you totally underestimate the power of these allies. indeed i reckon the only thing humanity has going for it are the fact that babies are born without any conditioning, and the psychedelics which can literally dissolve all that conditioning in a single night. without them we'd have become an ant society long ago.
now when tim started in academia he was young, curious, openminded, experimental, super-intelligent, basically well intentioned (and vain, arrogant, insensitive to others' feelings or even existence and everything you'd like to add) he was clearly never the same again, he was inspired by a Fabulous Revelation (of how humanity can Be) i know this because it happened to me. u can argue about whether the Vision is true, but u can't argue that people believe it.
things got out of hand certainly. or, more accurately, under hand :(
i'd say the most important thing u should consider is that anyone who stands against the current suicidal Consensus is gonna get hit by loadsa shit, WHAT EVER HE DOES. my own version is the zippy tour when my business partners stole my club megatripolis from me. fine, ok, we all know this kinda shit happens. but then when i got back i learned something i'll never forget. i discovered that when someone does you in there has to be a dubble whammy involved. in this case my ex partners had to cover their asses for stealing my club. so they had to put out the most terrible shit about me, namely among other lies that i'd 'stolen' 50000 bucks from (my own!) club and run off to america with it. this is 100% untrue (we were broke for the whole tour),. but this shit has stuck to me and followed me ever since, and when i die and they write the epitaphs there will certainly be people who come forward who 'heard' that i was a thief and etc.
and this is not even to mention the other motives people have. money. notoriety. why some people even project their father onto you and then knock u down for it.
so, to finish for now, u might be underestimating the fukking war that's going on out there when u raise your head above the parapet.
